One tough broad!

Mike Lawson's other series protagonist , an agreeable guy who's a fixer for a Congressman, is a lot less lethal than Kay Hamilton, and not nearly as kickass, but they're both entertaining companions. In this, the third novel featuring the exDIA agent, she tracks the crew that killed her boss, a security consultant with strong ties to the intelligence community, all the way to a predictably bloody denouement that seems to set up her next challenge. Fast, crisp, a good airport read for a cross country trip.

A hell of a page turner...

Mike Lawson never, ever disappoints! I loved his De Marco series (and the Emma character)! And now I love the Hamilton world... This is a perfect book for those who love great characters, non stop action, humor and constant twists... You simply can't put this book down! Can't wait for the next one. BRAVO Mike !

Oh, Kay... You Kick Butt!

This is the first book that I have read by Mike Lawson and K STREET is a very fast moving humdinger of a book! The main character is Kay Hamilton, an ex DEA Agent who now works for the Callahan Group, a secret Washington DC agency that occasionally helps other more official law enforcement agencies of the U S government. She makes an after hours visit to "the office" and interrupts a robbery in progress where the bad guys have shot her boss and are attempting to leave with a safe. Kay doesn't know the reason for the heist, but takes it upon herself to investigate and begins a journey to find out what is going on and seek revenge for the boss's shooting. Her investigation is expeditious but complicated by others who have reason to slow her down or kill her. The book moves like a speeding bullet (no pun intended) and she is one tough women, in every respect. K Street ends with a silencing of someone who was following her and Kay is able to send a message: "Leave me alone"; in no uncertain terms. I absolutely loved reading this book and am anxious to read the next installment by Mr.

Not very serene in Serenity...

When the intellectually challenged sister of the local meth dealer dies in Shelby Alexander's arms after freezing almost to death in his yard her brother shows up at his door. Seems the brother wants Alexander to investigate why she was there. She was working for him as a drug courier and wasn't supposed to be any where near Alexander's home. Next thing you know the brother is murdered as well.

This story takes some very strange turns and when the mastermind behind these two and more deaths is revealed it is a bit of a surprise.

The setting is a small town in Michigan but some of the scenes seem right out of the novel Deliverance.

I would definitely recommend getting this book for the discounted kindle unlimited price, but because of the short length I don't think it would be worth a credit.

Theo Holland does a good job narrating.

Excellent suspense novella!

Shelby Alexander is a 60 year old divorced ex-boxer who recently moved back to his hometown of Serenity in northern Michigan hoping for a peaceful and slower life. He strikes up a sexual relationship with a bar tender half his age. Serenity is now controlled by a murderous family that is selling illegal drugs. He finds a local woman near death with a head wound and nearly frozen in the outdoors. Despite his efforts she dies. The woman has severe autism and is a member of the underworld family. Alexander is offered $10k to find the killer. Lots of violence and death follow.

Serenity is an excellent suspense mystery which is also well narrated. My issue with the Shelby Alexander Thriller series is that all of the books are 4 hour novellas which are over priced as full novels. The books are priced at more than I pay for a credit using my Audible Platinum Annual Plan. They cost less using Kindle Unlimited but are still over priced.

A good little mystery, action-packed and with enough surprises to keep me on edge.

The main character, Shelby Alexander, is suitably flawed and no longer entirely young but is an interesting guy who is likable and by no means a superman who handles everything perfectly.

Missing Jeff Woodman

Would you consider the audio edition of The Dread Line to be better than the print version?

What three words best describe Jim Frangiones performance?

Just okay. There was nothing wrong per se with the performance and I'm sure it would have been fine if Jim Frangione had narrated the Liam Mulligan books from the beginning, but Jeff Woodman's is the voice I associate with Mulligan and so the narration was missing a certain je ne sai quoi.

This was a fine addition to the Mulligan series, I just hope that Jeff Woodman is available for the next book.

Good Old Fashioned PI romp

Mulligan turns from reporter to private eye using his old newspaper connections. But with a neat twist, he has a finger in some illegal stuff along the way. The author continues to do a fine job with character development and the conversational interactions are well written and believable. Really, a fine light weight way to speed the miles or the chores as you listen to Mulligans adventures. Caution. Although this one can stand on its own, its more fun if you read the books in order as you will be familiar with Mulligan's world. Well worth the credit.

Fantastic story, narrator swap ruins experience

I always love the Mulligan stories, but changing the narrator was a horrible idea. The entire setting of story is lost with Jim Frangione narrating. One could change the locations and this would be in entirely different book. Jeff Woodman's performances in the previous novels transported the listener into Rhode Island and the surrounding areas. Only because I enjoy Bruce DeSilva and Liam Mulligan did I push through the horridness that was the performance of Jim Frangione as Liam Mulligan. Please bring back Jeff Woodman for the next Liam Mulligan adventure.

A great series continues

The new narrator was pretty good but I would have preferred they continue with Jeff Woodman.

My Caribbean Holiday

I totally enjoyed listening to this box set. It had romance intrigue spiritual and detective all my favourites and all for one credit. great value money wise and entertaining.

First two books were great, third... not so much

Is there anything you would change about this book?

i really enjoyed books 1 and 2, however, somewhere in book 3, Katie turned into this excessively whiney and annoying woman who almost made me unable to finish. Some of it may have been the narrator and how she preformed, but it was also the story line. It called for whiney and annoying.

LOVED all 8 books in the Cat In Trouble Series.

This series is one of the best I've ever read. I love how it is told by a woman that has the smarts and extended family to help along a murder mystery.

A great pleasure of a read

Jillian has now been married to Tom, the acting police chief, for six months in The Cat, the Collector, and the Killer by Leann Sweeney. She gets a call from Sean, who runs the local cat shelter, asking for help. The neighbors of a woman who collects cats, named Minnie, has seemed to have disappeared, and her cats, which have always been house cats, are roaming around the neighborhood. But Sean cant go by himself because this is technically an issue for animal control, and Chester, the rather incompetent animal control officer, has a restraining order against Sean. But when they get to Minnies house, they find more than her seven cats, more like two dozen cats, and all are outside, begging to come in. Then, as Sean goes into the house, he is alarmed to find a body, that of Chester. With the arrival of Tom and other police, they notice lots of boxes filled with electronic goods filling up the house, something that doesnt make sense to anyone. Then Tom gets a call that Minnie has been found walking down the street in her nightgown, clutching a kitten and acting mentally disturbed. The people at the hospital where Minnie has been taken are having trouble with Minnie and ask Jillian for help. Minnie wont let go of her cat. So Jillian gets involved in the case from Minnies side.

With Minnie clearly not coherent, the hospital calls in a psychiatrist, Dr. Brenda, who figures out that Minnies erratic behavior is the result of a brain tumor. Her poor mental condition seems to have led to Chesters taking advantage of Minnie by dropping off numerous cats with her and leaving the many boxes with Minnie. Then, as Brenda goes out to buy a journal in the hopes that Minnie will respond to it, someone rams her off the road, almost killing her. Jillian stays involved in the case and tries to help all those involved, no matter how they connect to the case.

This book continues with all the strength of previous books in this series. I loved the intricate details of the book and how things worked together like a complicated puzzle that gradually come to fit. I appreciated getting to spend lots of time with Tom, Kara, Candace, and other returning friends and also with new friends we meet in this book.

Ripping yarn

A great story felt even better because of the reader- If I'd been reading this I'd have read it in one sitting. The setting in a drought in the outback is as much a part of the story as the characters.

Excellent storytelling

compelling Australian thriller

The time spent listening to this captivating story went very quickly. Well worthwhile and great narration.

Really good book.

Great setting, great main character and supporting characters, great story, well written and great double mystery.

Crime mysteries are not my usual first choice, but I liked the sound of the setting for this one so gave it a go.

Thoroughly enjoyed listening to every minute of it. Very few of the usual "oh come on, you've got to be kidding" clumsy co-incidences, unanswered questions or predictable formula characters and red herrings.

When both mysteries were finally answered, I hadn't seen either of them coming and found them very plausible, well thought through and totally worth waiting for.

And best thing of all - even though the main event was a violent murder, there was an absolute minimum of gratuitous gruesomeness which I really appreciated. Quite rare in these de-sensitised days.

It was all about the story and didn't try to wring out any more shock/horror than was necessary.

Hints of a sequel towards the end - or was that just wishful thinking?

If so, I'll definitely be getting it.

Great Aussie Read

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Never knowing where it would lead but leaving nothing hanging in the end. Great to have an Aussie to listen to!

#3 Did not disappoint

I do not retell the story in my reviews. What I do like to tell you is if this clicks all my boxes. This one does. The participants were all believable and like able. Even the ones you didn't like you loved in the story. The storyline that unfolded was reasonable for police protocol with a stretch in it that allowed interaction between the main characters. Loved the continuation of established people in #1 and #2. Made the story fuller and more complete. A must read for mystery lovers. I am gathering all of Marta Perry books for future reads. Her stories are wonderfully written. Now regarding the narrator. She is very good and doesn't try overly hard to be male voices. She gives you enough to make different in this book. Her talent is in the telling. I felt in the beginning of the book not enough variance but resolved fairly quickly as more people were introduced. Will definitely listen to again!

I listened to book 1 and 2 of this series. Book 1 was great. Book 2 hard to get into, Book 3 disappointing - didn't draw me in and lacked any element of Christianity. In fact, I would say it was unchristian do too so many innuendos.

Hint: Play at 1.2x speed

The story was "OK to good" on the scale of interesting, but maybe slightly tainted by a hint (I think) of ideology about guns and cops. But assuming it is there, it is not to the point of ruining the book. What did initially start to turn me off was the readers odd cadence and lingering inflection. I decided to use the Audible Apps Playback Speed adjustment and found that by moving it to a slightly faster speed of 1.2x, the narration and dialogue became much smoother and more pleasant to the ear.

As for the story, it was an interesting plot line and one very different from the common thread. It is especially interesting to the extent it explores a VERY uncomfortable topic: Child abduction and rape. If that can be made more uncomfortable, it might only be possible by making the rapist male and the child an 11-year old prepubescent boy. No one (normal) finds anything about rape or child molestation comfortable, but I think our Western Society stills carries just a little extra angst with the discussion if the victim is a boy. But again, that is my take, nothing empirical. So back to the story, a boy of 11 is kidnapped and raped for 8 days before being rescued by 2 heroes whom he never knows the identity of or the exact way by which they came to recover him. Jump ahead 11 years and the boy, now a young man struggling with life sees who he believes is his former captor and in a blind fit, kills the man in public. He is then left trying to convince the prosecutors and the world that this "man" was a child rapist and kidnapper. Enter the former heroes that rescued Ethan 11 years before that discover Ethan has indeed killed the correct pervert, but they can not come forward because of their own criminal acts in saving Ethan and others like him. As a last plot twist, it comes to light that the dead perv has had his entire history erased, the police can not find out who he is, and the intelligence community speculates he may be associated with middle eastern terrorists intent on kidnapping government leaders and their families.

I guess my only quibble with the story is what felt like an abrupt ending. While all of the loose ends were tied up and nothing seemed to be left hanging, it just seemed to be THE END.

Wow!

This book started out slowly for me. But the summary and other reviews kept me going. I'm so glad I kept listening, I was so immersed in the story, that I had a hard time pausing the book. I really like Cole's sense of justice which is based on protecting the underdog and those given a raw deal.

I was pleasantly surprised by the old country preacher. As Cole searches for answers, he finds them without compromising his respect and dignity

The reader soon learns that Cole has no patience for those that exploit the helpless and vulnerable.

I hope that the author lets us know what happened to a few of the characters in the other books. Especially Whisper.

I wish Audible had all his books narrated, not just "Diamonds and Cole". I loved the narrator.

I strongly recommend this Audible book.

Truly an enjoyable book!

I enjoy reading/listening to a variety of different genres. I was over joyed that there wasn't any profanity and not one bit of sexual content! I have deleted so many books and audios without hardly starting them because, I have no desire to fill my mind with such trash! I read for a good story and this was a good story! I only gave it 4 stars on the story part because the story was a bit predictable, but enjoyed it anyway. I am definitely going to add Michael Maxwell to my list of favorite authors!!

refreshing change

heart warming a real change to so much I usually read. I can share this book with you 11 year old or my wife and know the essence of the story will shine brightly. Yet it's the sort of story you can't put down..

Narrator is a Master of Characters

This is my first Cole Sage book, and I plan on buying #2. The narrator was the best I have heard on audible. Good book, not a Michael Connely mystery, but a 4 for the writer.

This book flew by!

For some reason this book in the series went by faster than the others. At one point I was really disappointed in the main character. It seemed like she was acting really stupid by rushing into something without enough preparation. However, it all worked out and was actually very exciting. Usually I read books that are more complex and I spend the entire book trying to keep the characters and locations straight. However, these books are relaxing, down to earth, easy to read and exciting. Exactly what I need with my crazy schedule and life!

Total flop

I'm sorry but how many mythical "enchanted" people live in this one small town? Absolutely everyone is part of one competing group or another. This series has the opportunity to be not so terrible, but by book 3 there are no non-magical humans left, which would make it interesting to see how the two (enchanted and non enchanted) would work together. Instead, everyone who seems normal turns out to either be a witch or an "elemental" or a shadow child or any number of other fantasy characters. Every time another towns folk turns out to be some new different random mythical creature I find myself going, "oh of COURSE they are.." It's not even enjoyable, it's like the author at this point is making stuff up. The actual mystery is overshadowed by all this nonsense. Don't waste your credit unless you like the cheesy fantasy genre

love this series the narrator is so good at portraying the characters in the story and the story is compelling and makes you want to know what the next book will uncover.
