This book is the 6th in a series of books featuring Elizabeth MacPherson. Like all of the early McCrumbs this book has a biting wit and sharp humor. I love all of McCrumb's early books while like all human beings she has grown in skill and outlook, the fine bones of her work are here. These books have all of the wit and character of her magnificent ballad novels but are more straight forward and more harsh

I love all of them. They are set in the late eighties and early nineties. This book opens with Elizabeth and her marine biologist husband Cameron, settled in Edinburgh and trying to negotiate a two job marriage. Elizabeth is a forensic anthropologist Cameron is a little concerned about the circumstances that would require Elizabeth's services. She cannot find a job and doesn't want to wait alone for Cameron to come back from his ocean going seal research, she decides to take a packaged Mystery Tour which will visit some of the more colorful sites of Victorian crimes. Jack the Ripper is mentioned. What could go wrong?

Elizabeth's forensics skills are not required. But everyone who has been on a plane, a train, especially a tour bus trapped next to someone who talks without cease can contemplate at least for a moment murder. The fact that an expert in crime is trying to do just that and keeps missing is not however acceptable. But although Elizabeth is a scientist and not a detective even she notices that the trail of accidents including one to the tour guide himself is a bit odd. If you like old crimes and a guide book tour of England you may like this.

A great, not so festive Christmas tale

I really enjoyed this book - the kind of macabre advent calendar that nobody wants to find. Intriguing story, some parts which were really tense and great narration. Loved the characters and hope that the series continues.

A Charmimg Mystery!

If youâre a fan of old time radio, Chicago history, or great stories in the vein of The Thin Man, give this series a try. I thoroughly enjoyed both books in the series, and am anxiously awaiting the third! A wonderful read for the holidays, or anytime.

Second times and charm!

I loved Homicide for the Holidays! I cannot get enough of the Viv and Charlie dynamic. Just like The Darkness Knows, it kept you on the edge of your seat with its unfolding of the story. Cheryl Honigford is such a beautifully crafted author and I cannot wait for book 3, and hopefully more!

1930s Chicago and Old Time Radio comes to life

Just finished Homicide for the Holidays and loved it! The author really brings 1930's Chicago and Old Time Radio to life. Can't wait for the next book in the series.

If you liked the first one then you are going to love ...

This is the second book in the Viv and Charlie series. If you liked the first one then you are going to love this second chapter in their story. Honigford does an excellent job of transporting you back in time while weaving mystery throughout. You really get to learn about Viv and her family in this installment and it will make you like her even more! Canât wait to see what happens in book 3!

I loved Homicide for the Holidays, it was fun reading about the world of radio and I really liked the characters in the book and hope Charlie and Viv have many more adventures. I can't wait for her next book, I love this period of time also and love stories especially mysteries written during this period. Cheryl is a great writer and know she will become very popular.

Suspenseful

Good read. Great suspense. Did not know who did it until the twist at the end.

Pretty good series

The novels in this series are pretty good, not fantastic but good enough to read several. The main character does annoy a bit after several books as she doesn't seem to be undergoing much character development. Other than that minor point, the stories are fine.

Good reading!

I read all the Geraldine Steel books while I was on holiday, they're great, I enjoyed every one of them. Well written with good storylines. I can recommend them all.

Not as good as usual

As much as I love this series, I really didn't care about the victims. They are self-serving, narcissistic people. I still very much like the main character Geraldine Steele. The book is as well-written as the others in the series. I look forward to reading the next one.

Sometimes you just gotta browse...

This is one of those books I found by browsing suggested books and following from page to page until I finally landed here. Slight hesitation because of the length but I'm very glad I decided to get this one.

Jake Cantrell was wrongfully dishonorably discharged from the military. Unable to find a job he goes to the one person he who can help but the one person he doesn't want to go to. It's the man his fiancé left him for while deployed in Afghanistan. He gives him a job with the college police where he is the president. Of course he starts out at the bottom and because of his dishonorable discharge his superior does not trust him.

When a college alumni jumps from a bridge and hangs himself he calls it murder but his superior calls it suicide. Until a second man (best friend of the first) does the same thing.

At the same time the secretly cross dressing college president is being blackmailed after being video recorded with a call girl in a rent by the hour hotel room. Neither case is what it appears and either could cost Jake his life.

Christopher Lane does an excellent job narrating. His straight man delivery makes him perfect for the sarcasm used in this book.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Juggling dynamite, not just firecrackers!

Juggling dynamite in lieu of firecrackers.

Dumped by his wife for his friend while he was deployed, now working security courtesy of same friend, drummed out of the army for political expediency, unable/unwilling to play the game with employers, pretty much living on alcohol and paying for chemo for his best buddy/dog, Jake is a mess.

Although he is looked down on and ridiculed by his chief of security as well as the local sheriff, he is the only one to get it right when the first body turns up. From then on he is hip deep in blackmail, murder, and attempts on his own life.

Enjoyed the book and the more I read Karen Ann Hopkins work the better I enjoy the stories. I hope she continues with Serenity series.

This is my fourth Serenity's Plain book and they have all been marvelous. Great story telling with many plot twists.

I wasn't too sure if I was going to like this book but I think I finished the whole series in about 5 days- very well written

Steve West is Jury. Otherwise I would have given up on this one. So many characters and a very convoluted story.
