Title: The Eyes of Texas: The Secret Society That Controls the University of Texas at Austin
    Author: Lance Kennedy
    Narrator: Jack Chekijian
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 4 hrs and 2 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 05-27-15
    Publisher: Lance Kennedy
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 10 votes
    Genres: Nonfiction, Social Sciences
    Publisher's Summary:
In 1975, a secret organization known as The Eyes of Texas was founded on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin. The Eyes of Texas quickly gained power over the Student Government, secretly controlling university life. In 2008, Lance Kennedy informed students about corruption at the University. The next year, an email was leaked to the campus newspaper revealing the existence of the society and confirming Kennedy's claims. The email revealed that the Eyes were working to promote the administration's initiatives instead of helping the campus be a better home to the thousands of students called Longhorns.
This book is an exciting journey through Kennedy's attempts to thwart the power of The Eyes of Texas and improve the quality of life for the University's students, faculty, and staff. Meticulously researched, this book, The Eyes of Texas, includes excerpts from The Daily Texan and other news sources to highlight the influence of this secretive band of brothers and sisters, and the ongoing attempts to shed light on the activities of The Eyes of Texas and corruption at the University of Texas at Austin.

A study in working to change problems on campus
This campus had alert students who caught on to the workings of the 'Good Old Boy' systems at work in campus life and student government. Very detailed and with points referenced, it truly makes those of us who did not attend this particular university wonder just how much of this sort of manipulating and maneuvering goes on at each university and/or university system. It wasn't cured by the 1960's, here is evidence that some progress was made in the 2000/2010's. But there are holdouts.
Jack C continues to be able to show his talents to advantage with scholarly narratives. The moderate vocal tone with a good cadence non-judgemental delivery keep the reader alert for the next piece of information.
Thanks to AudioBook Blast for opportunity to be gifted.
    The Eyes of Texas
I really loved listening to the history of the secret society group named 'The Eyes of Texas.' I know that the school song is also The Eyes of Texas. The book delves deep into the school's history and politics that are involved and it goes back decades. I found it extremely interesting.
I don't know what other books I could compare this one to. I do know it was very detailed and I would be willing to bet that a lot of universities do this same thing. Wait listing students. While under the premise of being created for the students, it has more politics built into it.
There wasn't any particular character. Maybe the University of Texas. It's hard to make a judgement call while only knowing one person's experience but I definitely found his accounting a good one.
Jack Chekijian did a wonderful job narrating this book as always. All his work is very well done.

    Publisher's Summary:
As an experienced software programmer, I have revealed what every American has been wanting someone to say. This book explains the message that one person would love to tell another person. As we become consumer slaves, we find ourselves also becoming slaves to work, and flushing our true desires and goals down the drain. The conformity and glittering generalities of our government and corporations alike have made our lives hell. This is the land of the free - the home of the brave. Freedom to choose lands you in jail, and being brave to escape from the heard of sheep will make you a slave to debt.
Maybe this book will inspire you to reexamine how you should live your life. The author has a bachelor's degree of business administration and an associate's degree of management technology.

I think every American should read this.
What made the experience of listening to Welcome to Hell the most enjoyable?
I found it enjoyable because it helped awaken me to all the lies and deception that continually gets fed to us Americans on a daily basis.
    Amateur pointless rant
I can't believe Audible put their name on this. You're better off going to a bar to listen to the drunks ramble on than to buy this embarrassingly poor "book."
Every sheep needs to read this!
It's so sad seeing our nation doing everything that the media tells them to do. It's a boring lifestyle that ends in the same result as everyone else. This book has helped recognize when brainwashing is occurring, and what things in our life contribute to it. Very helpful audiobook!
    A Way Out of Hell
Where does Welcome to Hell rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
This is one of the best audiobooks.
What did you like best about this story?
I love the narration. In addition, the author did a great job. The essay is pithy, to the point, and doesn't sugar-coat the truth.
Have you listened to any of Paul Carwiles other performances before? How does this one compare?
Paul Carwile is one of the best narrators ever. This ranks right up there with the high quality narration I've come to expect from him.
If you could give Welcome to Hell a new subtitle, what would it be?

    Title: Bias in the Booth
Subtitle: An Insider Exposes How the Sports Media Distort the News
    Author: Dylan Gwinn
    Narrator: Eric A. Urban
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 5 hrs and 6 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 04-24-15
    Publisher: Regnery Publishing
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 1 votes
    Genres: Nonfiction, Social Sciences
    Publisher's Summary:
Most of us see sports as a welcome - even blessed - relief from the challenges and frustrations of everyday life. We want to sit back, open a beer, and enjoy the game.
But many of those who bring us the game have a different agenda - they use their broadcasting platforms to harangue us with their own politically correct preoccupations. If a seventh-round NFL draft pick who can't make the team or an over-the-hill basketball player declares he's gay, he gets wall-to-wall media coverage and is hailed as a hero. If a stripper accuses college lacrosse players of rape, liberal sports reporters lead the lynch mob - with no apologies when the bearers of "white privilege" are proven innocent.
In his blistering new audiobook, Bias in the Booth, sports reporter and commentator Dylan Gwinn takes you inside the sports media spin machine to reveal what they hope you won't notice: The sports media are no different from the news and entertainment media.

Good explanation of some great examples
The book's content is a great discussion item. The book's attitude was disappointing. I was not in favor of the insults and name-calling by the author. I thought it took away some of the credibility. I think America has a severe journalism problem and this book explains some great examples. Part of America's problem is we have created too much media and journalism thanks to the growth in pay-TV stations and the Internet. Just because we have the tools to be a journalist, doesn't mean everybody has to. Today's media-outlets spend too much time criticizing another outlet other than pursuing accurate and balanced stories. Accurate and balanced stories are only options these days with American journalism. I shake my head over media person A being critical of "the media" knowing person A is part of the media in the first place. It's amazing how some people choose to exclude themselves from criticizing the same industry they are a part of. If there is a sequel to this book, I hope it includes the stories about the NBA and NCAA in response to North Carolina's bathroom bill.
this book will certainly bring about great commentary if only in your own mind
Brace yourselves, the truth hurts and this book is filled with truth from cover to cover. No matter on which side of the political fence you fall, this book will certainly bring about great commentary if only in your own mind. It raises the question of athletes' and commentators' place in the ever polarizing world of political correctness. It will definitely bolster your opinion, regardless of what your opinion may be. A very interesting take on what we all enjoy; sports, with the ever present tounge-in-cheek humor of The Mighty Gwinn.

    Very factual and honest!
Would you consider the audio edition of Performance Enhancing Drugs in Sports to be better than the print version?
Yes, the audio version was easier to understand than the print version. I love listening to fitness audiobooks rather than reading them anyways.
What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?
I was compelled but both the extreme downfalls and extreme benefits drugs can provide an athlete or bodybuilder!
This book does an awesome job at being truthful
It's hard to find an audiobook about steroids that isn't biased one way or the other. In this audiobook, all the author did was lay out facts and information that can be referenced to. Great job by this personal trainer. NO TO STEROIDS!

If you could sum up Asuntos raros de un abogado de pueblo [Rare affairs of a town lawyer] in three words, what would they be?
    Curioso, interesante y sorprendente
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Es un libro muy ameno que distrae mucho cuando lo escuchas, además de aprender términos jurídicos y escuchar historias muy interesantes.
Have you listened to any of Alfonso Saless other performances? How does this one compare?
Si es un locutor ameno y tranquilo.

    Members Reviews:
    Disapointing
Is there anything you would change about this book?
This book was not at all what I was hoping for. There was very little in the way of explaining how animal therapy works or why it works.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The best part of this book was the referneces to outside resources, but even that was very short. there are so many more organizations out there.
How could the performance have been better?
It sounded like Siri instead of a real person at times.
Do you think Animal Assisted Therapy needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Yes. It needs a book (or perhaps a series of them) detailing more ins, outs, and how toos of different animal therapy types. for example, a book on Equine Assisted Therapies, with each chapter (of 20+ pages, not a 30 second chapter) overviewing the theoretical approach and or benefits of each differnt type
    Any additional comments?
By the time I know enough to recognize the title as something that i want to learn about, I already know 80% of the information in this book, which makees it fairly useless.

    Publisher's Summary:
The current recession is not an ordinary economic correction; it's a symptom of the end of an era. All economic value comes from nature or society and we are rapidly depleting the productivity of both. Depletion of fossil energy and growing social inequity are but symptoms of an unsustainable economy. Continual economic growth is not sustainable. The sooner we face this reality, the sooner we can return to the true purpose of life - to the pursuit of happiness.
This will require a revolution - not just in matters of politics but in virtually every aspect of our lives. To transform our society and economy, we must transform ourselves. We must strive to use our individual gifts, aptitude, and abilities to realize our highest potentials. To do so, we must respect the basic truths of ecological, social, and economic reality. Living in harmony with the world around us is not only the key to creating a better world; it is the key to finding purpose and meaning in life, our key to the pursuit of happiness.
The wisdom in this audiobook is drawn from 40 years of study, experiences, and observations as an economist in four major state universities and in communities all across North America and around the world. I spent the first half of my career as an advocate of conservative, free-market economic thinking before concluding that the neoclassical concept of capitalism is simply not sustainable. I know where the dominant economic thinking of today is coming from; I have been there. This book is my latest effort to help people understand what we must do, individually and collectively, not only to create a sustainable economy but also to sustain society and humanity.

    Publisher's Summary:
Donald Sterling. Ray Rice. The Washington Redskins. The Miami Dolphins. NCAA athletes. These names, among countless others, have blanketed the headlines as the media has brought global attention to several recent sports controversies. Now Kenneth L. Shropshire, The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania professor of legal studies and business ethics and director of the Wharton Sports Business Initiative, uses these stories as a prism for exploring the leadership challenges facing team owners, management, players, and fans.
In Sport Matters: Leadership, Power, and the Quest for Respect in Sports, Shropshire examines the need for diversity, inclusion, respect, and equality in sports, focusing on the need for leadership to embrace and deliver these principles in a real and tangible way within the sports industry. He also introduces the sports power matrix, a framework for understanding power within the sports industry.
Sport Matters addresses what the Donald Sterling drama can teach us about race and the need for inclusion at the ownership level; the lessons learned from the NFL and Ray Rice case; the Washington Redskins' name and the economics of change; what the Miami Dolphins matter tells us about respect in the workplace and beyond; and compensation and equality in amateur sports.
Sport Matters, filled with disturbing revelations and uncomfortable truths, also provides hope, revealing how obstacles to achieving an ideal culture of equality and respect within the sports industry can be removed. Shropshire argues that while change matters, continued emphasis on diversity, inclusion, and respect is needed to create true progress.
