    Publisher's Summary:
Counterfeiter. Dishwasher. Prostitute. Attorney. Sculptor. Mercenary. Elephant. Corpse. The fascinating characters that roam across the pages of Emma Donoghue's latest fact-inspired fictions have all gone astray: they are emigrants, runaways, drifters.
They cross other borders, too: those of race, law, sex, and sanity. They travel for love or money, incognito or under duress. Donoghue describes the brutal plot hatched by a slave in conjunction with his master's wife to set them both free; she draws out the difficulties of gold mining in the Yukon, even in the supposedly plentiful early days, and she takes us to an early Puritan community in Massachusetts unsettled by an invented sex scandal.
Astrayalso includes "The Hunt'" a shocking confession of one soldier's violent betrayal during the American Revolution, which has been shortlisted for the 2012Sunday TimesShort Story Award. Astrayis a sequence of 14 stories by the prize-winning author ofRoomandThe Sealed Letter.
These strange, true tales light up four centuries of wanderings, offering a past made up of deviations and a surprising and moving history for restless times.

    Outstanding and riveting
Absolutely loved each story and want MORE! I can't wait to read more by this wonderful author.
    Excellent Selection of Short Stories
I really enjoyed these stories, connected loosely by the theme of life changes and all based on actual historical references. Some of these stories are heartbreaking, but all are interesting and insightful character stories, especially given the brevity of the "short story" format. Highly recommended.
Best I've heard in a long time
My favorite part was at the end of each short story you get a bonus description of each story . My second favorite was the words from the author at the end.

The art of love is never a science.: Meet Don Tillman, a brilliant yet socially inept professor of genetics, whos decided its time he found a wife. In the orderly, evidence-based manner with which Don approaches all things, he designs The Wife Project to find his perfect partner: a 16-page, scientifically valid survey to filter out the drinkers, the smokers, the late arrivers. Yet, Rosie Jarman possesses all these qualities. Although Don easily disqualifies her as a suitable candidate (even if she is "quite intelligent for a barmaid"), he is intrigued by Rosie's own quest to identify her biological father. When an unlikely relationship develops as they collaborate on The Father Project, Don is forced to confront the spontaneous whirlwind that is Rosie and the realisation that, despite your best scientific efforts, you dont find love, it finds you.

Hilarious romance with a rational approach
After 5 minutes listening and a moment of so much laughter that I had to stop the book, I knew that the Rosie Project is a winner. As a person diagnosed as borderline Asperger's Syndrome (actual BMI 23), I quickly empathised with the difficulties that Assoc. Prof. Don Tilman has had through his life.
As the story of a man whose brain works so differently to almost all others, and his long life journey to find his place in the world, including a romantic partner, the book works well. I liked the way the book gently stood up for people who do not conform to the neuro-typical, but did this within the context of a delightfully funny love story. Yes - aspys rule!
    Brilliant!
An education, and a great yarn.
I fell in love with Rosie too, found my self yelling at Don.
    Crazy.
    Entertain, fun and romantic
Is such an unusual love story. And yet so real. I think in some way we all are Don Tillman. Awesome to read.
    Excellent performance.
    Very enjoyable.
The Rosie Project is lovely light hearted and funny story of a man wisth undiagnosed ASD falling in love. I really enjoyed listening to the story and loved the Narrator's Australian accent.
    Wonderfully engaging
Wonderful characters all round with a beautifully self aware protagonist. There are moments your heart breaks for Don alongside other times you realise his assessment of people and situations is hilariously spot on. A wonderfully realised character.

    Title: The Getaway God
    Author: Richard Kadrey
    Narrator: MacLeod Andrews
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 11 hrs and 2 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 09-11-14
    Publisher: HarperCollins Publishers Limited
    Genres: Fiction, Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
A smart, kick-arse Urban Fantasy from a new master of the genre. The Getaway God is the sixth book in the fantastic Sandman Slim series.
Sandman Slim must save himself - and the entire world - from the wrath of some enraged and vengeful ancient gods in this sixth high-octane adventure in the New York Times best-selling series.
Being a half-human, half-angel nephilim with a bad rep and a worse attitude - not to mention temporarily playing Lucifer - James Stark aka Sandman Slim has made a few enemies. None, though, are as fearsome as the vindictive Angra Om Ya - the old gods. But their imminent invasion is only one of Stark's problems right now. LA is descending into chaos, and a new evil - the Wildfire Ripper - is stalking the city. No ordinary killer, The Ripper takes Stark deep into a conspiracy that stretches from Earth to Heaven and Hell. He's also the only person alive who may know how to keep the world from going extinct. The trouble is, he's also Stark's worst enemy...the only man in existence Stark would enjoy killing twice.
    Critic Reviews:
    Praise for Sandman Slim:
"The best B movie I've read in at least twenty years. An addictively satisfying, deeply amusing, dirty-ass masterpiece, Sandman Slim swerves hell-bent through our culture's impacted gridlock of genresit's like watching Sergio Leone and Clive Barker co-direct from a script by Jim Thompson and S. Clay Wilson." William Gibson
"If Simon R. Green wrote an episode of Dog the Bounty Hunter, it would read much like Sandman Slim - violent, vivid, non-stop action of the supernatural kind. I couldn't put it down." Charlaine Harris
    Members Reviews:
    The end of an Aeon
This sixth book in the "Sandman Slim" series is also the third of a sort of internal trilogy. In previous books, we have learned that the Angra Om Ya, ancient gods from whom our current God stole the Universe, are returning with vengeance and destruction on their collective minds. Our hero, James Stark, a/k/a Sandman Slim, the monster who kills monsters, has come into possession of an artifact which he refers to as the 8 Ball, but which has the power to let the Angra in - or to destroy them.
Only he has no idea how to use it.
He has taken a temporary position with the Golden Vigil, a sort of "Men-in-Black"ish government agent whose purpose is to control supernatural threats to National Security. Here he gets to work on the 8 Ball with a 400-year-old self-mummified Buddhist monk.
In the meanwhile, it has been raining in LA. A _lot_. So much that sane people are clearing out. And in Stark's former home, Hell, it's raining angel blood.
But there is a more immediate threat. A serial killer called "St Nick" (because he nicks body parts and, well, it's almost Christmas) is wandering loose, chopping people up and making temples of their bodies.
Oh, and Stark's girlfriend appears to be going crazy.
It's almost enough to make a man long to go back Downtown.
Kadrey writes (and Stark narrates) with black, noirish humor and a clear voice. The plotting barrels along Apocalyptically, and there are twists and developments right up to the last page.
All in all, it's a Hell of a fun book.
I would tell you what a fun ending this book has but then I would be ...
I would tell you what a fun ending this book has but then I would be getting ahead of myself. I truly enjoy Sandman Slim books.

    Loving Two Dad's
Daniel and Joe are identical twins. They grew up in a Jewish suburb of Chicago. Daniel now lived in Northampton, Massachusetts and Joe was married and lived in Israel.
Daniel met Matt at a gay bar in NYC. While there, Dan and Matt met and talked for a short time. Dan gave Matt his phone number and he stuffed the slip of paper in his coat pocket.
Shortly thereafter, Matt's best friend, Jay, died of aids. The world seemed to be crashing down on him. He needed to get away from NYC for a couple of days. away from the drugs, and the people he thought were his friend's. He remember that he had Daniel's phone number in his coat pocket. He was a little anxious but decided, why not, all he can say is no. Matt pushed the buttons, talked with Daniel and plans were made that he would visit with Daniel on the weekend.
Their relationship grew and Matt moved to Northampton to live with Dan. They were opposites in many ways but had grown together and made the relationship work. Matt and Dan were living a quiet domestic life in Northampton when Daniel received a phone call that his twin brother had been killed in Jerusalem, along with his wife, while drinking a latte at a small cafe. Their two children, Gal, six and the baby, 11 month old Noam, were now without parents and David and Matt's lives were suddenly transformed.
The funeral preparations were in place and ready to occur after Daniel arrived in Israel and was able to make a positive identification of his brother, Joe. Jewish law wants any deceased person buried soon after death. Joe and his wife, Allena, were buried that same evening.
The will needed to be read because of the two children. There were two sets of grandparents, one living in Israel and the other in Chicago.

    Critic Reviews:

'The Sheila O'Flanagan guarantee is a pretty powerful one' (Irish Independent)
    Members Reviews:
Her books always a good read.
Would you consider the audio edition of Suddenly Single to be better than the print version?
I always listen to books, seldom read them. I love Sheila O'Flanagan books and will always listen to them.
What other book might you compare Suddenly Single to and why?
Can't think of one to compare it to, it's a story of it's one. I enjoyed it.
Have you listened to any of Caroline Lennons other performances before? How does this one compare?
I love Caroline Lennon narrations. She is good at voices and accents, brings her characters to life.
If you could take any character from Suddenly Single out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Alex of course, very interesting person.
I did enjoy it in the end
If youve listened to books by Sheila O'Flanagan before, how does this one compare?
I have listened to several books by this author and found to be 5* listens/reads. The meat of this one was also very good, but I agree with another reviewer that there was too much detail of the stock market and trading room. I had to skip a few chapters alltogether after the first couple, because (from the several bits of each one of those chapters that I checked) they seemed to consist almost entirely of shouting in the dealing room. This level of detail was unnecessary for the story. That said, when I got past about chapter 17, the dealing room stuff was at an appropriate level for context.
What does Caroline Lennon bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you had only read the book?
She is my favourite narrator and was faultless as usual.
    Any additional comments?
If not for the high quality of the writing and my previous enjoyment of this authors work, I may have given-up and obtained a refund after the first half a dozen chapters. I am glad that I persevered though.
    Enjoyable
Nice story, with a steady pace and a narrative that will keep you listening and wanting more.

An ICU doctor in one of Seattle's most respected hospitals, Dr. Charlotte Reese is used to listening for the chop of the Medvac helicopter and preparing for the worst. But when a Jane hurtles through the doors of Beacon Hospital with tubes keeping her alive, Charlotte's stoic resolve begins to fail her and she becomes obsessed with unraveling the mystery of her patient's identity to solve what is looking more and more like an attempted murder. As Jane Doe's condition worsens over the course of days, Charlotte must decide what matters most as she grapples with the concept of life quality and the idea of letting Jane's fate be decided by a court-appointed guardian with no links to the patient. Filled with stunning medical detail and set against the backdrop of the Pacific Northwest, Gemini is a vivid novel of moral complexity and emotional depth that will resonate with fans of Sue Miller and Jodi Picoult.
    Members Reviews:
    Very good character development
Carol Cassella has written a book, taking place in a medical setting, that is quasi-mystery, and largely a story of people's lives. Dr. Charlotte Reese is on duty when a "Jane Doe" is brought in, in very serious, life-threatened condition, and they have no family to tell them her medical history or her wishes for things like life support. Dr. Reese becomes very invested in what happens to her which is part of the plot.
Around this central part of the story, Cassella has woven the life stories of several people--who, initially seem to have no relationship to each other, and her character development of each of them is very good. The interactions that tell their back story are quite interesting to listen to.
Much of this focuses on medical issues of course, but a great deal is how the mystery (which pretty much stops being mysterious not very far into the book) resolves itself. Even though the listener kind of knows that part, what is engaging is the way the story gradually builds up to reveal certain things that led to what had occurred at the very beginning of the book. There are some really gripping parts to the story.
I was not overly fond of the narration by Mozhan Marno, but it did the job okay. I liked this book and recommend it as a good read--but I feel it did not rise to the level of "5" on any measure.
    Entertaining enough
The story was pretty well-written, although it was more of a romance novel than a medical novel, which was disappointing to me.
The reader was good, but mispronounced several words and terms and the names of many local towns. Since I'm from the area the story takes place in, this was hard to listen to, especially since the author felt compelled to name many towns , highways, and local areas that were unnecessary and did nothing for the story.
I just don't get how a professional reader (performer) would not do the research to know how to say the words she's reading correctly. Just my pet peeve, I guess.
All in all, though, it kept me company through gardening, sewing and other tasks.
    Enjoyable, some mistakes in narration
I very much enjoyed this intertwining tale of a doctor with a Jane Doe under her care and Reni, an orphan girl raised by her grandfather. It is clear from early on that Reni is the Jane Doe and as the book unfolds the storylines of Jane Doe and her doctor get closer and closer to the story of Reni.
