    Publisher's Summary:
The city of Astreiant has gone crazy with enthusiasm for a new play, The Drowned Island, a lurid farrago of melodrama and innuendo. Pointsman Nicolas Rathe is not amused, however, at a real dead body on stage and must investigate. A string of murders follow, perhaps related to the politically important masque that is to play on that same stage. Rathe must once again recruit the help of his lover, former soldier Philip Eslingen, whose knowledge of actors and the stage, and of the depths of human perversity and violence, blends well with Rathe's own hard-won experience with human greed and magical mayhem.
Their task is complicated by the season, for it is the time of year when the spirits of the dead haunt the city and influence everyone, and also by the change in their relationship when the loss of Philip's job forces him to move in with Nicolas. Mystery, political intrigue, floral magic, astrology, and romance - both theatrical and personal - combine to make this a compelling listen.

    Exciting from start to finish!
Would you listen to Point of Dreams: A Novel of Astreiant again? Why?
From what I understand this is only one of many books written by the authors that follow the same two protagonists and exist in the same universe. This book stands alone just fine I had not read the first and was able to follow the plot and characters just fine. After reading this book I am very interested in seeing what other mysterys/debacles these two found themselves in (and these prior cases are occasionally referenced).
What was one of the most memorable moments of Point of Dreams: A Novel of Astreiant?
I don't want to spoil the story for anyone, but there was a confrontation between the main characters and the villain towards the end that was particularly exciting to listen to and experience. It's a mystery, after all...I don't want to give it away!!
What does Mark Mullaney bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
It made the story more exciting to hear it told in the different voices of many characters; I counted more than 40 characters in this book and it felt like each of them had a unique voice and personality.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I loved the dry humor in the story and I found myself chuckling while listening to certain parts. The subtlety of this book, though, is really one of its strong points.
    Any additional comments?
The book is basically one part classic full-of-detail murder mystery, one part character driven, and one small part steampunk/sci-fi.
I love this book, disappointing performance
Melissa Scott is one of my favorite authors, but I don't like this narrator.
He's especially bad at women's voices and his accent sounds fake.

    Publisher's Summary:
A retired marine, Logan is methodical and conservative. Richard is a liberal pacifist who is pathologically afraid of guns. Yet the minute Logan sets eyes on Richard, his heart turns over like an old car engine, and it isn't long before his motor is revved and Richard is in the driver's seat - even if it seems like each man is driving a different car. Richard Hunter is parenting his grandson, and the kid - Nick - has had it rough. Richard vows nothing will stop him from creating a loving and stable home. Not even a tempting, red-hot relationship with a very attractive man.
However, when Richard looks into Logan's blue eyes, it's tough to stay focused. It's never easy to become a family, what with a temperamental eight-year-old, disapproving outsiders, and outright extortion attempts. But when push comes to shove, both Logan and Richard are committed family men who want to make a loving home for a little boy who needs them. Together, they're planning to form a Family Unit, and they won't let anything stand in their way.

I loved that the characters were real
I'm not an overly huge fan of audio book in that, if given a choice, I'd rather read a book that listen. That being said, there are times that I can't read so I'd rather listen than miss the experience altogether.
Driving is one of those times. I work in varying locations with different length commutes. But usually I'm driving 30-60 mins each way a few times a week. So this can be 6 hours of 'reading' time.
Some audio books I've loved, others I've enjoyed, a couple I've hated. Sometimes it's the story and sometimes it's the narration and sometimes it's hard to separate the two.
The narration was good. I liked the accents, inflections and the general voicing of the characters. At parts it was a little slow but I think that's more a factor of the level of description in a book that sometime just doesn't translate perfectly into a slower narration - when you speed read, it doesn't slow things down, but it can when listening to a book being narrated at a nice, even pace.
Anyway, the overall narration was good and didn't detract from the story. I liked the interpretation of the characters and could picture them in my head. They sounded just like I thought they should.
But what really stood out for me was the story itself. And the highlight? It was the older characters - Richard was a grandfather (admittedly a young one)
I loved to see an older man who'd maybe made some mistakes in his youth and eventually sacrificed so much of his own life, get his own man. His man is hot - ex-military and a wonderful guy. Together - perfect!
These guys are so realistic. They aren't necessary toned and terrific. They shows the signs of their age and the life they've lead. They make mistakes, they argue a bit - they are real.
And the age adds a lovely touch of humour.

    Another Mythological adventure for me!
Would you consider the audio edition of Awakening to be better than the print version?
hmmm... well i can't really say. i love both reading and listening with stories and the fact that the voice was amazing. the accent had a little change over the course of the book but still overall great!
What was one of the most memorable moments of Awakening?
oh it has to be when Myra's mother was on tv... that just made me laugh like crazy! my aunt thought i was going nuts
    Which scene was your favorite?
when Myra kicked Reginald's ass!! wait can i say that? i mean butt! :D
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Myra was deathly afraid of height! or flying! and yet... she swooped down with hesitation to save her soul bond Quinn
    Any additional comments?
loved the overall sass' (did i spell that right?) from both characters the story was engaging and always kept you at the edge of your seat. i little unscheduled pauses from the voice actress here and there. but not really that bad. still giving this 5 stars all the way!
    Another winner
I just can't stop listening to Erik Schubach stories. Love the narrator, love the author's style, love the stories. This is saying a lot, considering I rarely latch onto an author who "fades to black" when it comes to sex scenes...in fact, none that make my fav list do... until Erik. His tales are rich and made to be audible. I'm not sure I'd enjoy them as much if I read them. The narrator really does a great job with his characters, especially the accents in this story. Looking forward to listening to the next in this series.
    "Watch That Claw"
Would you try another book from Erik Schubach and/or Hollie Jackson?
I do not buy too many paranormal books. This was good, but #2 if there is one, is not for me. Lots of good dialogue and humor.
H.J. is good and I have many of her books to be listened to that I have purchased.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
this was a short good listen with an inventive story line. It had fun good humorous dialogue so it was a good buy. The author eluded to a lesbian relationship, which did not make much sense to me. No erotic descriptions, more of 2 pals going to last into the ages. The ending does lead you to book #2 if author wrote one.
Have you listened to any of Hollie Jacksons other performances before? How does this one compare?
AKA: Sophie Eastlake, Erin Mallon, Julie Walean and a few other names does a fab job on Irish, Aussie accents. Not to be missed. The sample clued me to the AKA. on this book which was why I purchased.
H.J. name seems to denote more erotic or paranormal stories. She can read too slow in some books, so listen to the sample.
Could you see Awakening being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
    N/A
    Any additional comments?
Audible, I would love an AKA list.

Jonah considers himself the most boring person in existence. Even his dreams are boring; the most exciting dream he's ever had involved folding laundry. But then, in the middle of a dream about eating cereal, everything changes.
A faint memory of an unseen visitor, impressions that vanish upon waking, become dreams that leave Jonah exhausted, afraid, and determined to figure out who is turning his boring dreams into a terrifying game of cat and mouse.

    Different, but good
The blurb really doesn't give much info and there weren't any written reviews, so I had no idea what to expect. I really couldn't tell that it was a romance from the blurb, nor that it was MM, even though it showed up in my recommendations along with other MM romances.
The mystery of who is chasing Jonah in his dreams is solved pretty quickly. The rest of the story is essentially the love story between Jonah and Morpheus. The sex scenes are more alluded to or fade to black than is my preference, though that really doesn't detract from the story. I enjoyed it enough to try more from this author.

"I'll do anything." Staff Sergeant Jasper "Ace" Atchison takes one look at Private Sonny Daye and knows that every word on paper about him is pure, unadulterated bullshit. But Sonny is desperate, and although Ace isn't going to take him up on his offer of "anything", that doesn't mean he isn't tempted.
Instead, Ace takes Sonny under his wing, protecting him when they're in the service and making plans with him when they get out. Together, they're going to own a garage and build race cars and make their fortune hurtling faster than light across the desert. Together, they're going to rewrite the past, make Sonny Daye a whole and happy person, and put the ghosts in Ace's heart to rest.
But not even Sonny can build a car fast enough to escape the ghosts of the past. When Sonny's ghosts drive them down and run their plans off the road, Ace finds out exactly what he's made of. Maybe Sonny was the one to promise Ace anything, but there is nothing under the sun Ace won't do to keep Sonny safe from harm.

    4.75 Stars
4.5 stars for the story, 5 stars for Nick J. Russo's excellent narration!
Told in first-person from Jasper Ace Anderson Atchisons point of view this story is beautiful, crazy, messy, wonderful, and consuming. Rather like the characters.
Ace is unequivocally in love with Sonny, and Sonny has an all-consuming, possessive, jealous, love for Ace. They would lay down their lives for one another. They would kill for each other.
The story begins in the present and then segues to the past to Ace meeting Sonny in the military and follows their life together. Nick J. Russo's narration is phenomenal! I was riveted by the second sentence.
My name is Jasper Anderson Atchison. People call me Ace.
I am a murderer and a thief, but if Sonny still wants me, I will call myself a good man.
There are moments in the book, moments where I held my breath and prayed for the safety of a written character. Moments where I wondered how broken is broken, and how crazy is really crazy? Because Sonny is broken. Seriously broken. Sold at fifteen for two bricks of meth to a drug dealer who treated him worse than a dog on the streets, Sonny eventually ran and remade himself. He joined the Army to keep him but once he met Ace, he had opted to go with him instead.
I will never want to leave you. I promise I will always want to keep you, I told him...I couldnt let him down. I couldnt. I promise, Sonny. I will try to be what you deserve.
I absolutely loved the story and the narration. Even though this story and the characters pushed my boundaries and my limits, I was enthralled and know it will go into my rotation to listen again.
    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
    Blue Collar Wonderful
The blurb says that Ace will do anything for Sonny and he does. This is another winner from Amy Lane. The story is told from Ace's POV and he is a wonderful, funny, tell it like it is character from a loving blue collar family. Although he has hid the fact that he is gay for a long time, wanting Sonny has made him determine to be with him and nothing is going to stop him. He is magnificent. Sonny is another story. He has been traumatized in the worst way for many years and has MAJOR trust issues. Neither of these MCs comes across as entirely mentally stable, but it is what it is and they make if work. Sometimes painfully.

Now, retired, he fights flames for the Royal Fire Service. Trust doesn't come easily to Thorne or Ian until the fire's aftermath forces them to see past the scars keeping them both from healing.
    Members Reviews:
    Hopefully the final instalment.
My issue with the final (hopefully) instalment, is believability. How many more gay romances can one sheep station have? The chances that the two preteen boys in book one, would grow up gay and in love by book four, seem pretty remote to me. Fantastic twists of fate aside, the writing and narration are as good as the first. You'd be better served wrapping up your Lang Downs series at the third book in my opinion. On the plus side, the narrator finally gets "Dry-as-a-bone" right. Bye bye "drizza-bone".
Angst, passion, fire( literally) and True love
The Langs Down Series just gets better and better. This is book 4 and though each book has new characters it does focus on a recurring theme and characters and is probably best read in order. Trust me it is worth the read.
Conquer the flames is about Thorne an ex-military man that has been wounded and retired working as a firefighter. He is sent to warn and access the help needed on the Lang Downs Station and finds himself drawn to the men, the story behind them and the land. He hasn't felt welcomed or found a home since he was eighteen and joined the military and is surprised he is welcomed here especially with his PSTD.
This is Ian's story. He is one of the original characters, a crew boss and Niel's best friend. Until now I wasn't sure of his orientation. ( well, I kinda was since I had snuck peeks at all the blurbs...so I knew his story was coming up). I absolutely fell in love with Ian. His story is quite sad and I love a good survivor story and man is his good.
William James does a fabulous job narrating this series. He brings each character to life, and can really add the excitement to the already fabulous story. He makes the sex scenes breathtaking as well.
If you like stories set in Australia, sheep stations, Jackaroo, Firefighters, military men, lots of angst, and a very sweet romance this one is fabulous.
    Favorite so far!
I received a free copy of this book to read for Inked Rainbow Reads in exchange for an honest review.
I have to say that this was by far my favorite installation of this series. I absolutely fell in love with and felt for both Thorne and Ian.

Who was your favorite character and why?
I really liked Bastian. I thought he was sweet and tough at the same time. Also, I have a thing for guys who can wear eyeliner while toting s big gun around.
Have you listened to any of Michael Stellmans other performances before? How does this one compare?
I've only listened to one other performance by Michael Stellman (Stay With Me), and I thought he did a better job narrating Signal to Noise. His voice suited the story, and he was able to give more variation in the character voices. I had a hard time putting this down because I really liked Michael's tone and wanted to keep listening to it in one sitting.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When Theo and Bastian thought they were going to die as bombs were being dropped on Noise.
    Any additional comments?
I actually enjoyed this quite a bit although would have preferred less time spent on the (very) explicit sex scenes since they kind of messed with the pace and tension of the story. I mean, there are scary alien parasites turning their victims into zombies! The last thing the boys need to be doing is sexing each other up.
This is not the critically acclaimed book
Would you try another book from Talya Andor and/or Michael Stellman?
    Nope
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
All three: Anger, Sadness and Disappointment. Anger at myself for purchasing the wrong book. Sadness that this was not the critically acclaimed book by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. And disappointment when I was expecting an awesome fantasy novel and I ended up with incest, gay porn.

    Members Reviews:
    Didn't really work for me.
    Any additional comments?
I'm going to be honest with you - the story is well written, the narration is really well done, and it's got all the parts that make a whole including a bit of angst that to spice things up. However, my review is going to be totally subjective because I have to be honest and say this story bored the ever-loving stuffing out of me. Seriously. It's almost twelve hours long - and it felt. every. single. bit. of. it.
Further, I was blown away by how immature these characters were, and by "immature" I mean that both literally and figuratively. Danny and Elliot are supposed to be eighteen year olds. I swear I have never met two eighteen year olds who act as clueless, giggle-prone, and child-like as these two boys.
I take that back, I know an Amish kid who's like that. But these kids were raised in modern day California.
They act far more like they're fourteen, maybe fifteen? I kept thinking, maybe O'Shea wrote it for them being really young, but she was forced to edit them older later because of the (tame) sexy times? Which, that was another thing - the not quite fade-to-black sex? Grr.
I know so many people who gush over this story. GUSH, I tell you! So I don't know, maybe now that I'm pushing forty I just don't get the YA side anymore?
I normally LOVE YA/NA, including O'Shea's own Unintended (which, BTW the characters are also eighteen, and behave far more maturely than Danny and Elliot do). So I don't know. The characters were just really "young", the whole beard plot really annoyed me, the producer being the ultimate bad guy struck me as cliché, and everyone in their inner circle and friends being okay with them being gay struck me as inauthentic. Maybe I'm just too old for this? It just didn't speak to me at all.
Then again, maybe it just got me on bad day? Because the bones are here.

When they finally have a chance to get things right, danger follows them home from Afghanistan. Now, Tate and Evan must stand together in a show of force or risk losing everything - including their lives.

Story was good, Narrator was AWFUL
If you could sum up Show of Force in three words, what would they be?
    Interesting. Sweet. Fun.
What did you like best about this story?
That no one had to get hurt for the two main characters to realize how much they love each other.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Her voice was very breathy, and the pace was so frantic regardless of what was actually going on. Tate continually sounded like she was on the verge of a nervous breakdown, even when all she was doing was walking across the room!
    Any additional comments?
Again, the pace of the narrator was just ridiculous. Good thing I enjoyed the story, because listening to this reader was painful.
    meh. it was ok.
lagged a few times. big buildup. short, too fast pay off ref villain. romance was good.
    Suspenseful romantic adventure.
I like a tough hero. Both women are heroes. This book was a bit scary, but a good read.
    Ver good.
This was a great story-wasn't my favorite narrator, though. It did keep me interested to the end.

Jeff, Evan, and Dan have been living happily together for the past two years. They still have problems, especially between Evan and Dan, but they're mostly able to convert the interpersonal disagreements to sexual tension - and then resolve it - so nobody's complaining. Then Dan's long-lost sister shows up seven months pregnant and on the run from the law, and the situation goes from complicated to overwhelming. Jeff and Evan want to help, but with Evan fearful for his own sister's safety and Jeff struggling to keep his health issues under wraps, they're a little distracted. As Dan's sister struggles with her past, Evan's seems intent on gambling with her future.
With emotions and family ties pulling them in different directions, the threesome have to hold together - or the people they love may tear them apart.

What made the experience of listening to Of Dark and Bright the most enjoyable?
This is less than half the length on audio than the previous book but still just as good.
This chapter in the boys lives is a lot more melancholy than the first two books. I dont think anyone that reads this series can fail to fall in love with Jeff. As I have said before he is the glue that holds the three together and an integral part of the relationship. At the start of this book he is questioning whether he is of any use to Dan and Evan and whether they would be better off without him. His self doubt is a little bit heart breaking. When he also decides to keep his health worries to himself he is not in a very good place.
Dan and Evan are just the same. One minute everything is fine and the next they are behaving like petulant 5 year olds and waiting for Jeff to sort them out. When Dans sister turns up after an absence of 15 years, 7 months pregnant, the sparks really fly. Evan is never slow to use his money to get what he wants and this situation proves no different. I have loved Evan throughout the three books but his behaviour in the barn when arguing with Dan left me wanting to smack him round the head, he was cruel and you begin to wonder whether the cracks are going to be too deep to fix this time.
I cannot recommend this series enough. It is the very real life struggle of three men and a slightly unconventional relationship. It is not all sunshine and roses but when they get it to work it is fantastic. I felt the first time I read it that it would have been great to see another book, I felt it was left a little open ended, just my personal opinion. I became invested in Dan, Evan and Jeff and would love to see how life worked out for them.
    Narration
Peter B Brooke did another excellent job. His strong point is still not the female voices but he can be forgiven that I think as he does the three main characters so perfectly.
    Love the series
I'm in love with all the books in the Dark Horse series- even the short ones, which should also be in audio. This book is one of my top go to when I need something to ease the day, I've listened to ODAB so many times, I've lost count:) enjoy
