She is an iconic member of the British Royal Family, beloved for her beauty and charitable works, resented by her former husband and his mother, the Queen of England. Gabriel's target is Eamon Quinn, a master bomb maker and mercenary of death who sells his services to the highest bidder. Fortunately Gabriel does not pursue him alone. At his side is Christopher Keller, a British commando turned professional assassin who knows Quinn's murderous handiwork all too well.

    Nobody Does It Better
The English Spy is another multi-layered utterly riveting book from Daniel Silva, who is as knowledgable about his subject matter as he is deft in telling us the story. The English Spy, the fifteenth book in the Gabriel Allon series is set in a potpourri of cities - virtually all the sites of previous adventures - only a few months after the end of "The Heist." the previous Allon adventure. By doing this, the clever and witty Mr. Silva is buying both us and his main character, Gabriel Allon time before he must leave the field and take over The Office. As a result, we see relatively little of the lovely and intriguing Mrs. Allon, Chiara, who is heavily pregnant with twins conceived two books back, but to make up for her absence, we are reunited with an array of characters good and bad from previous stories.
There are twists and turns galore, and with gore, and what you think you are seeing as you read may not be what you've got a few pages further in. Yes, the English Spy is Christopher Keller, who has become a reader favorite, but even the title can be interpreted in more ways than one. Even the opening series of events, though sensational and attention grabbing, is somewhat misleading, especially if the reader thinks this book is going to be about an unhappy English princess. It is not, and before jumping to conclusions, we would do well to think of another much loved British Royal who did die in a boat explosion and not in a car crash in a tunnel in Paris.
We also see less of Gabriel's well meshed "Office" team, and more of some old friends and many dangerous enemies from the first fourteen books, but Allon and Keller are an awesome team for which no evil doer can be a match on a permanent basis. First time readers will have no trouble jumping in at level 15 because Mr. Silva does give us back story, written in his usual graceful style, that informs but never bores. The pacing is perfection; the end of chapter hooks make it impossible not to read just one more, and the denouement is everything for which the reader could hope. The scenes with Leah, Gabriel's first wife, who has never recovered from their son's death or her own injuries in a car bombing, and Gabriel's painting of the nursery clouds will stay in my mind forever while Christopher Keller's final scene left me yearning for yet more of him.

    Joshua Hood is on fire
This man can write. Edge of the seat, pulse pounding. Mason Kane is an awesome character, Hood takes him to the limit!
    Great book
Josh Hood definitely is an author to watch. His stories are ingenious in how they weave current events into them in such a way to seem like it really could have happened. He furthermore clearly knows his topic and yet doesn't bore with too many technical details.
Can't wait for the next one.
    Good Characters and Story
Like the interplay between characters. Characters are developed. Story has interesting twists. A number of action scenes that aren't so over the top that you can believe it (with some imagination). Worth a listen.
    Non-stop action thriller
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
All action all the time thriller with battlefield realism you don't see the genre. Great follow up to "Clear by Fire" and sets the stage for what I think will be a great series.

    Title: Garden of Beasts
Subtitle: A Novel of Berlin 1936
    Author: Jeffery Deaver
    Narrator: Jefferson Mays
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 13 hrs and 21 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 06-14-16
    Publisher: Simon & Schuster Audio
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 64 votes
    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Espionage
    Publisher's Summary:
In the most ingenious and provocative thriller yet from the acclaimed New York Times best-selling author Jeffery Deaver, a conscience-plagued mobster turned government hitman struggles to find his moral compass amid rampant treachery and betrayal in 1936 Berlin.
Paul Schumann, a German American living in New York City in 1936, is a mobster hitman known as much for his brilliant tactics as for taking only "righteous" assignments. But then Paul gets caught. And the arresting officer offers him a stark choice: prison or covert government service. Paul is asked to pose as a journalist covering the summer Olympics taking place in Berlin. He's to hunt down and kill Reinhard Ernst - the ruthless architect of Hitler's clandestine rearmament. If successful, Paul will be pardoned and given the financial means to go legit; if he refuses the job, his fate will be Sing Sing and the electric chair.
Paul travels to Germany, takes a room in a boardinghouse near the Tiergarten - the huge park in central Berlin but also, literally, the "Garden of Beasts" - and begins his hunt. In classic Deaver fashion, the next 48 hours are a feverish cat-and-mouse chase as Paul stalks Ernst through Berlin while a dogged Berlin police officer and the entire Third Reich apparatus search frantically for the American.
Garden of Beasts is packed with fascinating period detail and features a cast of perfectly realized locals, Olympic athletes, and senior Nazi officials - some real, some fictional. With hairpin plot twists, the reigning "master of ticking-bomb suspense" (People) plumbs the nerve-jangling paranoia of prewar Berlin and steers the story to a breathtaking and wholly unpredictable ending.

    One of my favs
As a historical fiction book? Its great.
As a general fiction book? Also great.
Everything from the atmosphere to the narration are stellar.
Sadly no sequel that I know of but its still a great ride and it goes quickly
    very good
    Any additional comments?
This was a welcome change to the Rhyme books. Deaver has created a new set of interesting characters within an entertaining and well paced story. This would be a welcome beginning to a new series. It offers a similar milieu as the Alan Furst novels but is faster paced.
    great read
love this one. highly recommend it to anyone good story great characters and play between them. keeps you listing from start to end.

    Title: Little Sister
    Subtitle: A James Palatine Thriller
    Author: Giles O'Bryen
    Narrator: James Clamp
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 13 hrs and 57 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 03-01-16
    Publisher: Brilliance Audio
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 32 votes
    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Espionage
    Publisher's Summary:
Little Sister has vanished. The prototype device - real name IPD400 - has powers of surveillance that governments and terrorist organizations would kill for. They might yet.
James Palatine, a trained killer with a surplus of conscience, invented the device and is the only person who can operate it. He's determined to retrieve it, and so is Natalya Kocharian - the arms dealer who "inadvertently" sold the prototype to a rogue dealer. But the current owner, holed up in the scorching void of the Western Sahara, won't give in without a fight. Meanwhile MI6, fearing for their own reputation, will do anything to beat Palatine to the prize.
With Special Forces on the move and the UN Security Council on high alert, the stakes are high. Knowledge is power, after all - and no secret is safe from Little Sister. Trapped in the desert and under attack from all sides, can Palatine simultaneously take on his enemies, his demons and the dangerous power of his own invention?

    Great book under $8
He stopped and listened for the sound of a diesel engine grumbling in the distance, then scanned the gloom about him. He saw no shape or feature that would offer shelter from the heat or cover from pursuers, nor the slightest indication of what lay in this direction, or that, or any other. It was as if the earth had been vandalised: scraped flat, blasted with sand and rock, then abandoned in disgust. You could measure time here in tens or hundreds or even thousands of years, nothing would change. A thornbush would wither, another would take its place. A colony of ants would mine an oval of baked dirt until it collapsed, leaving a tiny depression behind. A rock would split. Hed covered fifteen miles no more, perhaps less. In an hour the sun would be up. In three, the surface of the desert would start to warp in the heat. It is far too early to lose heart.
Little Sister by Giles O'Bryen is the first book in the projected James Palatine thriller series. The title almost put me off as I thought it would be a family drama. But I was dearly mistaken. It is a hard-boiled techno-thriller with strains of espionage, action, adventure, mystery, suspense, military, political intrigue, and a protagonist many listeners will come to love. James Palatine is a well-fleshed character, intelligent but with a body as sharp as his mind.
Author Giles OBryen has drawn up an interesting premise on which the novel revolves. Little Sister refers to a secret weapon which Palatine has developed. The device has fallen into the wrong hands. It is up to James Palatine to recover it. The drama that unfolds is quite relentless and breathtaking. It criss-crossed countries and cities, from well-furnished offices in the cities to the open skies of the torrid desert, Little Sister is an entertaining listen which will leave you mesmerized not only on a single count, but a variety of reasons. What is most definitely great about the book is the flowing narrative and style.

I'd definitely listen to this novel again!
Captain Riley is the first book in this series. The book is an espionage thriller by Spanish author Franando Gamboa set in the early days of WWII a few months before the US entered the war. The publisher's sets up the novel superbly, so I shall not add to it. Captain Riley is an excellent novel with vivid characters, lots of action and suspense, and some nice plot twists. I am not a fan of narrator David Colacci, but he does a fine job of narrating this novel.
The second novel in the Captain Riley series titled Darkness will be released in 12 hours. I have pre-ordered it. Tomorrow is a wonderful day for new releases with the new Captain Riley novel, a new Scot Harvath novel by Brad Thor, a new John Rain novel by Barry Eisler, and a new non-fiction book (Smear) by Sharyl Attkisson who is my favorite journalist. I'll start listening with the new Brad Thor novel.
    Technical errors
The narration would normally get a 4/5 (wasn't perfect) but there were sections that seem spliced together where the audio quality wasn't the same. also, one of the chapters was missing. Also, the Kindle/Audible sync didn't work correctly.
    Didn't see that coming
Excellent story keeps your attention with character development and plot twists and turns. Author is original story teller.

The book stops before the end.
The story is good, but the book stops before the end and wants you to go to the authors web site to get the end. I will get a refund instead.
    Bizarre ending.
I wasn't sure if I had the correct book for the longest time. Don't know where you get to here the actual ending. Not sure about continuing the series.
    Cheated
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I'm half way through my run and the story quits on me. "Stay tuned for the next installment" - not.
You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
I liked it until, at the very end, it dunked me in the cold water.
Can't skip to the last chapter... It's not there
The characters are well developed, the plot is interesting and keeps you thinking. My problem with this story (I'll try not to spoil anything) is that The CIA would never be involved in the things they were involved in on US soil as they were in this book. The story line would have been better if Goodman found a more believable rouge group or an outcast individual to perpetuate the crimes within the story.
I also found the lack of research done by the author to be a distraction. Inaccuracies around weapons and military equipment should not be so difficult to incorporate into the story line accurately. One example: One character looks into an Apache Helicopter and sees another character sitting next to the pilot. It is a very basic detail of Apache and Cobra helicopters that the cockpit is a tandem configuration. The pilot and navigator sit with on seat in front and one elevated behind. There is certainly no way for two people sitting next to one another.
Finally, the last chapter is not in the book. Goodman writes that he left the ending open for the reader to fill in the ending the way they want and that he had no idea that there would be a book to follow.

Modern Day Technothriller authors better watch out
Be thrown into a world of venture capitalists, the FBI, CIA, and more. David Alexander is always looking for the next best thing when he comes up with an idea for an easy to use encrypted chat client. He doesn't really want to follow through on the idea, but his best friend convinces him to and the rest is history. Mixed into this fast-paced business/startup thriller is a terrorist plot that weaves in and out of the story.
If you don't know who Jeffrey Kafer is and you listen to audiobooks, especially fast-paced thrillers like this one... you should. Kafer is a great narrator, who helps already great books become even better. The production quality is perfect with no errors. Literally every time I finish a book narrated by Kafer I go to his books on Audible to try and figure out what I'm listening to next.
This book was great, a real page-turner. I found myself sitting and just being totally entranced by the world that Carlson created. You definitely run the gambit of feelings for David's character. There are things that he does that make you hate him, and things that make him incredibly lovable. And that's always great out of a leading character for a book.
My only complaint is jumping around in time. I don't know if in the book it explains where/when they are or if you're just supposed to piece it together. As an audiobook listener, it's hard to go from present to the past without a little warning (Chapter __ isn't always enough).
Overall, Carlson has written a really great book that weaves in terrorist plots with encryption. Takes coding and makes it fun and interesting (by always talking around it). But I can definitely tell that Carlson has had some experience either in the startup world and/or with coding and encryption. The premises here are all too real, and the story is incredibly plausible.
Also, on a super funny side-note, after I started reading this I was reading Facebook and a story in a tech magazine popped up talking about how you can now buy jellyfish and their tank online. SUPER creepy.
Carlson's writing style reminded me a lot of Joseph Finder (who's stories I absolutely love).

    Exciting Story
It was a little hard to follow at first, because I have trouble with names & sometimes have trouble keeping track of who is who in a long involved story like this. It is very well narrated however & I was soon totally engrossed. I somewhat hated for it to end. Although it's a fairly long story, the writing & narration were both excellent & I was never bored. I now need to find time to read or listen to the other 2 books in the trilogy.
    Complete and utter nonsense
Would you try another book from Marcus Richardson and/or James Romick?
    no
    Any additional comments?
I rarely write reviews, but I just could not leave this one alone. I am a big fan of dystopian future stories, but I found this one to be so unrealistic ( and I love me some zombies, if that puts it into context) that I had to quit. I have hundreds of audiobooks, this is the first I ever gave up on. The military characters were horrible, the native character was a walking, talking stereotype, and the story line screamed of globalist take over paranoia. If that's your cup of tea, you might love it, but it wasn't for me.

    Any additional comments?
Firstly - "This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of Audiobook Blast." - for which I am very grateful.
I really enjoyed this book. It always helps to have a great narrator and Jeffrey Kafer does a terrific job. I have previously enjoyed the Dane Maddock stories and so to listen to one written from the perspective of one (actually a couple) of his comrades in arms was a pleasure.
The story starts with an awful massacre, but then rocks along, providing combinations of detail, action and back story as necessary. Wood and Ellis do a great job of building the characters for us and giving them a blend of personalities that work very well.
Would I listen to another of the Myrmidon stories? Absolutely!
A thriller that demands your attention
What made the experience of listening to Destiny the most enjoyable?
Jeff has become the voice of action, adventure thrillers for me. Jeff does slight changes to his voice for each character. But I am drawn to Jeff as a narrator for this style of stories because of his style and strong bold voice. He tells the story as he's living through it as the characters. Jeff doesn't give away any clues as to where the story will go while narrating for us. He keeps me wondering with the characters. Jeff doesn't question anything in his tone, unless the character does. Jeff feels as he's the expert the character comes across as. Jeffrey did an accent of English spoken by the characters in Mexico. I didn't think anything of it when I came across it as it fit perfect to the story and was clear in understanding the words.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Wow! David and Sean have created a huge system here. I listened to one book in this world. But this is a different group of people. They share enemies ~ Dominion and Norfolk groups ~ but they have their own assignment. There is a lot of information shared as the story moves forward, on characters and story line. All the information is given, but I feel as I'm missing that one piece of evidence that fits it all together, that's what makes it the mystery and for me to keep listening.
