The story was okay. The narration was very difficult to listen to. The voices - he did all of them and he didn't do a good job. I didn't really care for it and It took away from the story.

Outstanding

I couldn't put it down. This book is way better than the first one, and the first one was great. Can't wait for the next one. Excellent narration. Great plot, Suspense, drama. Just a great book

Storyline good, pronunciation sometimes not.

Good number two book in the trilogy, and I will go to number three. The author kept my attention but the reader had some pronunciation blunders. She is reading California place names, and is obviously not from there. This may not bother anyone from the other 49 states, but it was distracting to me. For example, the first "a" in Vacaville is pronounced like a short letter "o"...a Spanish derivative.

Could not stop listening

The second book in the series was just as good as the first. can not wait for the 3rd book to come out. wish there was a way to get an alert to know when it is coming out.

These are not usually the type of books I buy but this series has made me open up to new types of books.

As good as her Lizzy Gardner series!

TR Ragan writes outstanding crime thrillers. But beware, unlike the Lizzy Gardner series the novels in the Faith McMann series are not stand alone; they end in a cliffhanger situation which is to be resolved in following books in the series; that is, it is a serialized series. To understand this book (Outrage) the prior book, Furious, must be listened to first.

Good follow up.

The story of Faith continues. Read the first book first. All the sorrow and frustration still resonates in this second installment. The head of the trafficking racket has declared war on Faith, her, and friends. At least 80% of her family have been physically assaulted. There is no quick fix to this sick epidemic in our society or for Faith. This book leaves Faith with many more questions and searches.

The characters of Rage and Beast is expanded. Faith was consumed so much with her situation that she did not note anything of her friends. In this installment, T. R. Ragan took time to tell more of their story. Rage is an exceptional character and her story is truly one of strength. These mothers (Faith and Rage) illustrate what mothers will do for the safety of their children.

Beast and Rage feel the need to help Faith based upon their personal losses. Beast is anything but a beast.

Excellent British Mystery

Peter Grainger is a wonderful writer. His primary character. Detective Sergeant DS Smith is an older, former Detective Chief Inspector who now works to solve cases rather than supervise. He is interesting, smart, multi-faceted, and his interactions with his subordinate team members provide a window into his character. He's honest and a gentleman, with a unique way of looking at crimes.

I have actually read all 5 of Mr. Granger's books in this series. As with a number of other authors whose books I enjoy enough to read multiple times (Agatha Christie, PD James, Josephine Tey, Dick Francis, Jodi Taylor, Patricia Wentworth and others), I will buy his audiobooks as they become available and listen when I can't read. An excellent narrator makes for great company.

Gildart Jackson is a good choice as narrator. As everyone knows, the narrator can ruin an excellent book but that won't happen here.

For those who like classic British mysteries, I highly recommend this writer.

An Accidental Read

Just happened on this first in a series and had no expectations when I started reading. A very satisfying read. The primary character, DC Smith is someone I am looking forward to getting to know better. While there is still a great deal of back story to fill in, this relatively short book introduces a complex hero who takes the form of a somewhat shabby, bumbling detective, well past his prime, whom everyone hopes will retire - immediately. I was very impressed with the character development, especially the use of the grown child of an ex-partner, someone Smith first knew as a very little boy, to illustrate just how long he has been around, yet how relevant he still is.

And as usual my favorite aspect of this British police procedural suspense novel is that a wonderful mystery is presented and then solved with very little violence and with no guns. So many US mystery writers have replaced plot with gratuitous and graphic violence and endless gun battles that do nothing to move the story forward.

I thought the narrator did an excellent job!

Wild ride

Another great tale from the Verity Long series. Each book gets better and better. I enjoy listening to these books at work, riding in my car. They make me laugh and laugh. I love all the characters and even meeting new ones such as Suds. I look forward to the next adventure.

This is my favorite so far. It seemed to be a little more hopeful, better rhythm and cadence. Seems there are many future options to take the story.

Good story but repeating past facts over and over felt like she was writing to someone with memory problems. I had to stop listening from the annoyance a few times before I finished the book.

Performance - great. Story, good concept needs better execution.

The issues I have with this series (and writer) are these:

1. She constantly restates what has already been said, sometimes even in the same or adjoining chapter. This includes the continual harping on her dying friend, restating over and over about Max, her brother, Ambrose and so on.

2. Zoe is 300+ years old, if she spent that much time in her head regretting her past - she'd be in a psych ward somewhere - or would have killed herself.

Having said that- when you make it past those points, this book got better than the last for the plot. There we're times in the first book that circumstances were really forced and there were far too many conveniences. Good job on the improvement.

Also, is there a more charming character than Dorian (sure, impetuous and sometimes immature for being 150 - but hey - no gargoyle is perfect right?), who just flat out saves Zoe from herself, and us from her character (and tendency) of being overly retrospect? Seriously.

A good next novel, looking forward to the improvements continuing - and loved the Poirot references :)

Like a tour guide looking backward...

I'm truly addicted to this series of books by Gigi Pandian because I love the story. I am unnerved however, by Pandian's insistance on repeating what has come before at east four times in every chapter. Like a tour guide looking backward. I wish she would just let us follow the story she's told without reminding us every few pages what it is she's already written.

What happened to Gigi here?

I've read/listened to several of Gigi Pandian's books. This one, however, was sluggish, with so much repetition of the facts, that it was boring and I listened to several other books before going back to regretfully finishing it. It's disturbing that a female major character is so whiny, depressed, insecure and with such a lack of personal pride as to live the way she does. Please give this character a lift at some point (when does Anything good happen to her?).

What made the experience of listening to The Masquerading Magician the most enjoyable?

I enjoy most the voices that Julia Motyka does for all of the characters. I don't usually enjoy women readers, but I could listen to Ms. Motyka read the phone book.

Fun light-weight listen. Superb narration!!!

Fun! A nice break from more intense complex mysteries. Suitable for listening when car pooling with children as there aren't any sex scenes or foul language. The narrator is absolutely superb!!! Hannah Platts is as good as such great narrators; Katherine Kellgren, Simon Vance, George Guidall, etc. With over 600 audible books owned, I truly appreciate a good narrator. They can make or break a book for me. She made this book come to life. I'm hopeful that she is at the beginning of her career and will continue to narrate more books (currently, she had only a few).

Where does Witch Is When It All Began rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

This is a great little story that has a lot of promise, magic and discovery. It ranks at the top because I can't wait to listen to book 2, the narration is FAB (and totally fits the character, story, and is simply delightful to listen to).

Decent enough

A fun little romp. Light and clean. Tried to be a mystery and a paranormal, didn't do either especially well, but the pace and tone were fine, so was an enjoyable few hours.

Interesting

Interesting theme. A P.A. that knits and apparently that's her true calling, a talking one-eyed, cheeky cat and a P.I./newby witch who is the main character.

Add all these to the mix and stir well ... Now you have a sweet murder/mystery/witchy story. Quite entertaining.

This was the first i had read by this author. I am always looking for cute cozy mysteries. This one did not disappoint. I look forward to reading/listening to more.

Loved It!

I'm really surprised at how much I enjoy this series. The characters and plot are well-developed and realistic. The small town atmosphere and attitudes ring true and add to the humor of the story. I also enjoy the paranormal aspect of the book. Frankie provides lots of comic relief. He's one of my favorite characters in the book. I look forward to the next book.

Great to keep your mind off exercising

I like all of Angie Fox's books they're fun and I like the way the Tavia performs it. It becomes quite imaginable. Love to get lost in the story while I'm exercising.

Fun story, good pace, great characters

There are complex plots, complex characters, and just fun books. This book was fun, not deep but I am glad I listened.

Great development of the characters in the Series

I am really enjoying this little series and I especially like how much romance is actually second-hand to the stories as a whole. In Skeleton in the Closet, we learn a lot more about the characters we met in Southern Spirits and get to know the town Sugarland, Tennessee a little better.

Verity Long and Gangster-Ghost Frankie are back at it again to help solve a murder but this time Verity actually stumbles upon the body and the mystery. I really enjoy the fact the author does such a good job of giving the ghost characters as much life and detail as the living characters.

The murder in this story seems simple but the story does get complex and really grabs your attention.

A Decent Cozy Mystery

First, I need to respond to the user who really slammed the narrator. S/he must be truly spoiled by the multitudes of talented voice actors used in so many Audible books. The narrator is quite acceptable--really! I've experienced MUCH worse in monotone voices who sound like they've just learned to read. Jeanie K is very easy to listen to!

The story is intriguing with a lot of room to grow. It's fairly easy to forecast what's likely to happen in the long term relationships. Cozy mystery is the right term. Book candy of the nicest kind!

Love this new series

I enjoy Krista Davis's Domestic Diva series and I also enjoy this one as well. There's a lot going on and a lot of characters, but Davis does a good job weaving the story together so the reader does not get lost. I can't wait for the next book in this series to be released.

Great book, bad narrator

The story was great, but the narrator sounded like she was reading a children's book to a group of toddlers.

Another Go To Author

Once and awhile you just stumble upon something good and this series is really something good. A rescued dog, a cozy mystery, an adorable cat, a handsome childhood friend, and a wonderful grandma! How could things go wrong. Well, there is this pesky "fiancé" who keeps hanging around. A "fiancé" whom Holly needs to dump! Give these books a try, I don't think you will be disappointed!

A fun cozy with ghosts and cats

Wilhelmina Chance, former crime journalist, after a painful divorce and an even more painful car accident, has returned home to Mystic Notch, New Hampshire. Willa has inherited her grandmother's beautiful Victorian house, as well as her bookstore, specializing in used and antique books.

But one side effect of her near-fatal accident is that she sees ghosts. And when she finds Lavinia, the town librarian, lying dead at the foot of a flight of stairs, Lavinia insists that Willa has to find her killer.

Along with the house and the bookstore, Willa inherited her grandmother's cat, Pandora. Initially, she's taking care of Pandora out of duty, but the cat keeps growing on her. Sometimes Pandora's meowing almost sounds like words...

This book was a lot of fun. I like Willa, her friends and neighbors, and Pandora. But for an experienced crime reporter whom we're told legitimately cracked some cases "down south" (i.e., in Massachusetts), and as smart and observant as she is, she does get focused on one particular suspect, based largely on personal dislike, to the point of being resistant to evidence pointed another way.

On the other hand, I did like that the small town cops, Willa's sister Augusta, who is the local sheriff, and Striker, who is the sheriff in the next town over, are smart, capable, and pragmatic. They're not improbable geniuses putting city slickers to shame, but they're not having the wool pulled over their eyes, either, even with fewer resources than a big city police department would have.

There are some weaknesses, here, but it's a fun, light read. Recommended.

I like light hearted, not predictable.

If you don't read books often or like how they turn out just as you feared -er- imagined, then you'll probably enjoy this book. The clues were as blatant as the love line. The characters are all two dimensional, even the main character. Very disappointing since I heard such good reviews. Frustrated by the protagonist's obtuseness, I ended up skipping half the book and missed absolutely nothing. She was still clueless though clues were smacking her in the face and still had the same romantic maturity of an angsty teenager. "Oh, what a jerk! He's so dreamy when he accuses me of murder. I don't like him.

Since Sumner was Richard's banker, both brothers have a stake in finding out what happened. With Richard's reluctant help, Jeff's investigation leads him to Sumner's belligerent family and hard-nosed business associates, none of whom want him snooping around.

One of the most memorable moments was when Jeff convinced his brother to go hunt for the dead man's viscera with him, knowing he couldn't shovel.

Where does Murder on the Mind rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

As this is the only suspense audio I've read so far, I can't accurately compare it to any I've listened to in another genre as far as a story goes. Comparing quality, I'd say it was very professional. A few I've listened to were not done as well; story or narration.
