This was alittle too elementry for my taste. It was quite drawn out and could have been wrapped up in 6 hours instead of 11. Narrator was very hammy. Too theatrical for me.

Yes, I really enjoyed Edge of Normal so I would try another Carla Norton Book.

I am not sure that I would listen to Christina Delaine again though - it would have to be a really compelling book.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Unbelievable, unoriginal.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

For me, the narrator really over acted through the entire book. There were two things that specifically irritated me:

1 - I listened with ear buds so when the narrator raised her voice (to overact) it hurt my ears and I had to rip the ear buds out of my ears.

2 - The voice that she used for the main character sounded too young and really distracted from the story.

The first book in this series was interesting and original. This book took the path of a typical serial killer book that has a killer with excellent luck and almost super human powers.

The main character is also less interesting and seems too normal to have experienced everything that she did.

Juvenile Drivel, Just Horrible

Carla Morton has written what seems to be a very bland teen mystery which is so repetitive and so predictable, it made me roll my eyes in several places. She doesn't use any cuss words in the book and she's dealing with homicide detectives and serial killers. "Oh crap' is the best we get from our heroine who was captured by an escaped serial killer.

I tried to listen to this book on a long road trip. All I can say is save your credit. It's absolutely garbage.

Excellent detective novel!

Minutes to Kill is an excellent detective novel with lots of suspense. Narration is disappointing.

Loved the storyline and the players: Brody and Hannah were a great twosome. It was wonderful seeing Grant and Ellie and Carson again. The bad guys, Mick and Sam were so bad and sooo disgusting and sooo very, very mean. You really couldnt help but hate them with your whole being. BUT I did love Hannah! She could seriously kick some a$$. The book was constantly exciting, from Las Vegas to New York, something was always happening.

Theres never a whole lot of sexual tension in her books but theres some and she writes very good bedroom scenes.

Because it makes me crazy that every single romance has one thing in common, from now on, Im going to mention the heroine biting her lip. Worrying her lip. Chewing at her lip or nibbling at her lip, or doing whatever to her lip. No one bit their lip. Yay!

As to the narration: Let me start by saying, the narrator was truly awful, and Im pretty sure within a couple of days Ill get a not helpful vote from her. At the end of her sentences she comes to an abrupt halt and her male voices simply sucked. I mean, Sam and Royce and Chet and Frank, the coroner, the detective in Las Vegas, Herb, almost every male voice, sounded like cartoon characters, almost like she was holding her nose to try to give them all a nasally sound, even Mac, Hannahs brother. If he EVER has his own story this narrator will destroy the book. Youd think, with this being 2015, a lot of these narrators would have listened to the readers complaints and tried to improve but I think some of them think they are so good they dont need improvement. Thats some pretty wrong thinking. I have listened to Ms.Dukehart for the last time. Even the 3 reviews written on Audible one person, God know why, gave her 4 stars, and the others 2 gave her 2 stars and mine will be 1 star so that should tell you something about her narration.

I would like to say that the description tells us what the book is about or we can zip over to Amazon and look at reviews. This is AUDIBLE! What we need to review is the narrator. Does he or she suck? Why? Is he or she too nasal-y, too sweet for the kind of book he or she is reading, to gruff, too bland, too robotic, lacks emotion.

Terrific as usual!

I hope by the way it ended, though, that this is not the last of Lucas and friends! I've come to love them. I especially love hoe Lucas' relationship with Lettie has been fleshed out. I guess we'll have to wait (impatiently) until next year this time. The story really kept going, no slow pacing at all. Richard Ferrone, as always, was a great narrator. He translates Lucas well, where I can almost visualize him. I highly recommend this and all the other Prey novels. If I could give it ten stars I would!

Any weakness Sanford has shown in last few volumes in this series has been blown away by this latest addition. Tight action and dialogues. Excellent!

I feel as if I've traveled this road before.

Where to start? Well, Richard Ferrone has become Lucas Davenport in my mind and he does a great job in narrating this novel.

I'm not going to restate the plot, the promotional blurb does that quite well.

I enjoyed "Gathering Prey" I liked the way that Lucas'and Letty's relationship has matured, the way it's transitioning from Adult/Child relationship to an Adult/Young Adult relationship. Lucas still has "Dad" moments, but he is far from being a "helicopter parent".

So yes I enjoyed this novel, and after it was over I realized why I enjoyed it. It's because I've read it before.

I was first introduced to Anne Cleeves' Shetland series via the BBC's televised series, which I loved. The books are much much better and beautifully read by Gordon Griffin, whose accent is spot-on but remains perfectly accessible to non-Scots. The mystery remained whole until the last fifteen minutes and I would have never guessed the identity of the culprit. But added to the suspense, there is the unfolding of Jimmy Perez, the main detective's, new romance with Fran, as well as the wonderful sense of place and an introduction to the Shetland Island's customs. I thoroughly recommend this audiobook.

Picked up where last one left off...

This beautifully strange world of characters just this side of cliche, but far enough to this side to be believable and interesting and unpredictable. Could be any place really...once you open the doors and look inside the secret lives of the inhabitants.

I'm an enthusiastic fan of mysteries and police procedurals. This book is both those things and much more. This is one of the best series I have read.

The author does a superb job of describing Shetland and creating a cast of fascinating characters. Time is taken to describe a number of characters in some detail. If you are looking for an "action packed" story with a high body count, this isn't it.

There is a complex mystery that I wasn't able to figure out ahead of time. The pace may seem slow, but everything that happens moves the story along. Gordon Griffin is one of the best narrators I have encountered. I'm sure his narration added a great deal to my enjoyment of this book.

I plan to listen to all of the books in this series, and I expect it will be a bit of a let down when I finish the last one.

A Great Mystery but not a Thriller!

Which was a good thing for me - I can't take thrillers and almost didn't buy this one because of that designation. I got it anyway because I loved Raven Black and had been waiting for the sequel.

The mystery starts at the very beginning of the book. I was totally baffled. Many threads must be unraveled before the explanation can revealed. I found the solution very satisfying and enjoyed the book, just not as much as the first in the series, which is why I only gave this one four stars.

I loved the narrator in Raven Black. He does a fine job in this one but there was often a creepy quality in his voice which I didn't remember from the first book and which I didn't really like in this one. Also, I don't know if the narrator is old or young but often the characters sounded older than I thought they should.

The narration shifts in point of view from character to character and the author delves deeply into the thoughts of whoever the focus is on at the moment.

Another great Chuck Box book!!!

I have a couple of complaints with this book as well as with all of his books. My first complaint is that his books are so enjoyable it is very hard to stop listening to them. Because of this I lose one night of sleep in order to finish the book. My second complaint is that because it takes less than 24 hours to listen to the book I have to wait another 6 months to a year before the next book is released. Thanks Chuck for another great listen! Love narrator David Chandler!

Best one yet

Great story line. Loved the crazy family with the mother in complete control of her boys. Crazy at its best.

I'm a big fan of the CJ Box series and this one did not disappoint. I could not put it down and recommend it to all the Joe Pickett fans. Five stars!

This story line was great and kept you thinking trying to put all the pieces together unit the end. Very good job of blending all the elements and characters.

I have enjoyed books 1-4 but found this one to be deplorable to Lizzie.

The entire series Ms. Ragan has had Jared help rebuild Lizzie's heart, soul..everything and then Ms. Ragan decides to take away?

For me this was a ignorant move for character writing.

I did not enjoy what has happened in this book. Quoting Lizzie "nobody alive knows me". I think a lot of the readers of the series thought they did based on the reviews throughout the series until this book. Apparently Ms. Ragan did not.

One plus is I always enjoy Katie Rudd's narration of Audible books and she had done an awesome job for this series.

I wish book 6 well as I won't be reading it or recommending.

Multiple story lines, fast easy read

Yes. This is a pretty good easy book to listen to. Fast paced with multiple concurrent stories.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Almost Dead?

In the beginning of the book you find out what happened to Jarred (I won't spoil this) but it left me wondering throughout the book how it would conclude.

What about Kate Rudds performance did you like?

Kate Rudd has read all of the Lizzy Gardner books and for me anyway she is her voice. I think she did a fine job.

I thought this was very good and suspenseful. I like that the pace was consistent through out the book. I think I liked the last book a little better but that might be because this one was a little sad at times. I think I can see where the author is going with the next story or possibly the one after and am curious to find out if I'm right. I think Lizzy is going to get involved with the detective she always seems to butt heads with but I guess I'll have to wait to find out. I also liked that Haley and Kitally's characters were developed even more and that they are developing their own story lines. Certainly worth the price! I recommend this one.

what a weird ending to the series...

disappointed I loved the storyline of the female serial killer but all that stuff going on with lizzy and Jared was a bit much. don't want to give story away but did not like the ending and how lizzy an Jared relationship ends

Not Patterson's Best Work

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No. I felt the storyline lacked substance and imagination. I've heard all these stories before. Not familiar with Maxine Paetro so I can't comment of that.. I really enjoyed the first Private book and was expecting great things from this one. Two men from a foreign country that kill and rape women, but get diplomatic immunity; an employee of Private that is tried for murdering an old girl friend, and then there is the continuing dysfunctional relationship between the twin brothers. I find it difficult to believe that twin brothers could really cause the other so much pain.

Would you recommend Private Vegas to your friends? Why or why not?

Not this time. Same reasons as stated above.

Did Jay Snyder do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Snyder did a good job with what he had to wok with. His attempt to make the book more mellow dramatic than it was did not succeed.

Do you think Private Vegas needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Absolutely not. Only a part of the story actually took place in Las Vegas and there wasn't much left at the end of the book to work with.

The novel lacked feeling and sensitivity and the characters seemed shallow and forced. I was on a lengthy road trip and it served it's purpose. It kept my mind off the long stretches of open roads.

Another "Private" Disappointment

I love this concept BUT.... This was my 4th listen in the Private series.... and will likely be my last. I love the concept of the exclusive high-end celebrity security firm and Book One delivered but not the past three. This one has nothing to do with Las Vegas.

Do Patterson / Paetro churn these out over a long week-end? I'll stick w/ Michael Bennett and the Murder Club.

Series badly needs to change focus

There are so many things about the novel I do not like, I hardly know where to start. The novel starts with seven pennies against a wall and a shooting -- so far so good. But Cornwell does the same, tired thing, she make this whole novel about her inner circle casting doubt on those close to her. With so much intelligence and abilities in her, Benton, Lucy, and Marino, your would like that she could conjure up a plot line that doesn't have one of her own family suspected of stuff (I won't spoil). You see her laying some groundwork for future additions to the series which is okay. She really needs to get out of this self-doubt kick with Scarpetta and get everyone sharing information with each other taking a nasty as hell crime with intricacies like she has done in the past. A little more depth on supporting cast will do and it would be nice to see the character grow a bit -- okay maybe there was a little in this novel, but we need to see more. This plot is tired -- time for a change.

I love Lorelie King -- but NOT in the Scapetta series. For those of you who know, she narrates the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. Stephanie is a ditzy comic character. Her voice makes Scapetta sound like Plum and Benton like Joe Morelli -- not a compliment. Go back to having Kate Reading do the narration -- no disrespect to Lorelie King.

Overall, this story is a meh. Try not to be too disappointed, it's worth the credit but I wouldn't rush to listen to it like I did.

Great Mystery Romance

Would you listen to Cover Your Eyes again? Why?

I love the reader Karen White and I found this great mystery looking for her current read. I like a variety of Romance and Mystery. This book was a mystery first and had romance woven all through the book. This is NOT F.S.O.G type romance. Romance is subtle between H & H. The hero's siblings could have spin off stories the author could write as independents books, the tie being the family unit.

What other book might you compare Cover Your Eyes to and why?

Clever outline from the author and reader made the whole story a non-stop listen.

I am a core romance listener and have been adding lots of mysteries to my library. Sandra Browns books are closest to this type of mystery, see Mean Streak.

Which character as performed by Karen White was your favorite?

All of the characters were given such life by Ms White voice. I love her male voices the best and when there is sarcasm from them, it is the best. See Julie James author for the best reads from K.W. Author Jill Shelves/ K.W. reads are very good as well.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES, I did! I Iost some sleep over this good listen. Yes, I did figure out some of the clues, but hey isn't that what I am suppose to do? This is not a hard core mystery like Michael Connelly's but all the characters were good and added to this story. This has a large cast of females who add depth to this story and will not disappoint if you like mystery/romance type listens.

Well written & enjoyable book /performance

I enjoyed this book although I wish I'd known to listen to this one before Be Afraid (I think that's what the next one was called). I listened to them out of order but both were still good. I like that this has plot twists and some depth. The characters are interesting and make you care so the listening experience is so much more entertaining.

A Disappointment

Too short, too many players, not up to his usual standard. I was actually stunned

when it ended. I could not believe it. Don't waste your time.

Great listen, good story, BUT abrupt end......

Great listen.... with multiple story lines..., interesting personalities....,suspense..., and of course familiar family involvement.......

Bennett's twisted journey to solve a complicated crime came to a ABRUPT end thus ending the story.....what happened to the rest of the story...his ombudsman team....his adopted daughter......his sick grandfather....Mary Catherine ??????

I was left hanging...am I being set up for a sequel ???????. (Clever but maddening )

Really bad, all around.

Sometimes a really good narrator can make a weak story more listenable, and sometimes a terrible narrator can make an awful book even worse. Unfortunately, the latter is the case with this book. I have enjoyed Patterson's book for years in the past. It is indeed sad to see his work come to this.

I love this narrator! He is now synonomous with Michael Bennett for me.

I've been waiting for this book since the last installment. Pre-ordered and counted down the days and it did not disappoint. I may listen to it again!

Book needs finished!

What would have made Burn better?

Major story line not resolved. Female cop killed and investigated early in story not resolved. Then demise of bad boy very weak. Lastly, way to much background noise with the Bennit family.

What could James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
