    Publisher's Summary:
During my first visit to the cinema the empathy I felt from Gary Cooper was life-changing, and a secret dream was born in the darkened auditorium.
Later, my forays to the East revealed an original take on humanity which fell into two categories: those who remembered and those who didn't. The former, by teaching the latter, could transmit this memory, and communicate this spark of creation directly into the being of the other.
The Ocean Fell into the Drop is a different kind of show business memoir, one that traces Terence Stamp's twin obsessions, acting and mysticism, and the relationship the two have to each other for him, through the trajectory of his life.
On the way he discusses his directors, Fellini, Loach, Pasolini; actors, Olivier, Brando and Redgrave; and spiritual masters, Krishnamurti and Hazarat Inayat Khan, as well as his family, life in the East End, Sufism and style.

    A classic
    Wowsers.
Anyone expecting a salacious kiss and tell about Stamp's high-profile lovers will be disappointed. This is more about a spiritual (apologies for saying "journey") journey (sorry).
One of the greatest performances I've enjoyed on an audiobook. Truly spellbinding. More, please, Terence. X

    Publisher's Summary:
The true story of one of pro wrestling's most charismatic, feared, and beloved icons
Who was Maurice the man, and who was Mad Dog the character? Maurice "Mad Dog" Vachon was a gold medalist, a pro-wrestling legend, and a pop culture icon - but he was also a son, husband, and father. Mad Dog explores Vachon's career and personal struggles with painstakingly detailed historical research and through both Maurice's own recollections and those of the people who knew him best.
As a young man, Maurice could have chosen a dark criminal path, but then wrestling and family changed him. Chronicling his slow but steady rise to prominence across America and internationally in some of pro wrestling's most important territories, this in-depth biography shows how Vachon's life came to be defined by the words of Mark Twain: "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog." Fiercely proud, motivated, and supremely talented, Vachon's story is also the amazing tale of how a lifelong make-believe heel became a real-life hero outside of the ring.
With a foreword by his brother, Paul Vachon, and an afterword by his widow, Kathie Vachon.

    Four Stars
Great info about a real charcter.
    Every dog has its day
I finished reading Mad Dog: The Maurice Vachon Story this morning. I was so anxious to read this that I often wondered if authors Bertrand Hébert and Pat Laprade somehow pushed the release of the English translation ahead, just so I would stop asking them when their 2015 book, originally in French, would be available in English LOL. Mad Dog scared the life out of me as a child when I would see him on TV Saturday morning on the Canadian channel that we were fortunate enough to get. It was the early 70's, and still very real to me. I was so worried he would hurt my favorite wrestlers, like Eduard Carpentier and others. This book is an amazing look back at a man who had an equally amazing life. It is a retrospect from birth to death of a man who was one of the greatest Canadians villain and heroes, all at the same time. The stories are so well told that you can visualize them happing, as outrageous as some of them are! Thank you my friends for this gem!
    What a legend
An excellent insight into the career and life of Mad Dog Vachon, makes you smile at the antics he got up to, and makes you appreciate the man for his endless generosity to both his peers and his family.
    Highly recommended.
A must read this is an amazing book.

Length: 5 hrs and 3 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 08-14-17
    Publisher: Phoenix Books

    Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities
    Publisher's Summary:
She was the notorious grand inquisitor of the television sensation The Weakest Link, the first woman in nearly half a century to host a prime-time game show, and the highest-paid female journalist in British history, and she warranted fan mail and death threats, fear and loathing, unqualified admiration and unabashed hatred.
From pioneering journalist to overnight pop-culture phenomenon, Anne Robinson trains her steely eyed focus on her own past and tells all with the bar-nothing candor that won her the honor of "rudest woman on TV" (Britain's TVTimes). With ferocious honesty she shares the events of her formative upbringing by a sensitive father and a driven, hardworking mother who was "part magic, part monster". With unreserved pride she reveals the headline-making battles to carve out her own career as a journalist, a controversial consumer reporter, and a BBC anchor - a calling that took its toll on a troubled marriage and a sensational, highly publicized custody battle.
And with biting humor, Anne Robinson explores what brought the "lady in black" to her peak level of infamy, namely her autocratic style, withering glance, and stinging lash, landing her in the unique position of being both the most popular and unpopular television personality in history. This is Anne Robinson.
    Members Reviews:
    Amazing story!
I'm a huge fan of Anne Robinson and the Weakest Link, and I love listening to her tragedy-to-triumph story on my old radio (thank God I saved it!). I bought this after I was disappointed with the CD version being abridged, and on these 8 tapes, not a single detail is missed. My mom, who's from the same generation, and I listened to story together while reading the book on my iPad and she loved it as much as I did. Being that I'm American, I didn't know what life was like in Great Britain during the '50s and so forth.
Anne Robinson gives a very powerful perspective on how her childhood was shaped, her struggle with alcoholism, losing custody of her only daughter after divorcing her first husband, and how she fought against these adversities to become a pioneer for women journalists in Great Britain (this was before Barbara Walters made her mark in history), leading to her groundbreaking success as the quiz show dominatrix on the Weakest Link in both Great Britain and the United States (the latter only lasted two years, but she hasn't been forgotten).
I heard that Anne is writing a second book based on the diaries she has kept since 2000, and a lot has happened since this book was published. I eagerly await it's release. In the meantime, this book is very inspirational, and I'd highly recommend reading it.
    Delightful!
I always watch "The Weakest Link" here in Europe with sort of a fist in my mouth - how can that woman be so horrible to people, and what an utter delight it is when someone gets one up on her. This biography talks not only about the way in which a truly dedicated woman got to the top of her field, but also about the way in which this "unfit mother" really did turn out to be a wonderful mother, with a wonderful daughter and with a wonderful relationship with said daughter. I suppose that Anne Robinson must be feeling sort of like Boris Karloff these days - he wasn't really Frankenstein's monster, and she isn't really the iron-fisted dominatrix of the television show.

Length: 5 hrs and 46 mins
    Language: English

    Publisher: Penguin Audio
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 5 votes
    Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Celebrities
    Publisher's Summary:
From best-selling author Julie Klam comes a lively and engaging exploration of celebrity: why celebrities fascinate us, what it means to be famous today, and why celebrities are so important.
"When I was young I was convinced celebrities could save me," Julie Klam admits in The Stars in Our Eyes, her funny and personal exploration of fame and celebrity. As she did for subjects as wide-ranging as dogs, mothers, and friendship, Klam brings her infectious curiosity and crackling wit to the topic of celebrity. As she admits, "I've always been enamored with celebrities", be they movie stars, baseball players, TV actors, or, now, Internet sensations. "They are the us we want to be." Celebrities today have a global presence and can be, Klam writes, "some girl on Instagram who does nude yoga and has 3.5 million followers, a 13-year-old 'viner', and a Korean rapper who posts his videos that are viewed millions of times."
In The Stars in Our Eyes, Klam examines this phenomenon. She delves deep into what makes someone a celebrity, explains why we care about celebrities more than ever, and uncovers the bargains they make with the public and the burdens they bear to sustain this status. The result is an engaging, astute, and eye-opening look into celebrity that reveals the truths about fame as it elucidates why it's such an important part of life today.

    Short fun read
Was a fun, short, light read. Nothing to tax the brain. Good way to pass waiting time or a short flight.
    A joy!!
A hilarious and thoughtful account regarding our fascination with the culture of celebrity. The book is sprinkled with great celebrity encounters that makes this an incredibly fun read! Julie Klam is one helluva funny writer.
    Ill-conceived, Outdated, Boring
Not sure how this book got published--it's ill-conceived from the start because it really doesn't analyze what the subtitle says. The author instead somehow thinks we should care about her childhood crushes and spends much of the book rambling about outdated celebrities. She interviews a few "famous people" for the book but they aren't exactly household names. The first is Quinn Cummings. Seriously? You want to write a book about celebrity and pick someone who had a very short career (only a 1977 famous movie role and a guest on a dozen TV shows) but no longer works in the business. Bad start. Then Timothy Hutton. Okay, well, he was big in 1980 but notorious for being difficult to deal with. She now is "friends" with him after they began messaging on Facebook (weird) and she makes the silly claim that he's not like other stars that have had hair dyed or botox. Has she seen the guy? His hair is very dyed! So she works hard to try to make a guy with a bad reputation look good here.
In between these names get ready for stories about her love of Annie (even the unknowns that played the role on stage) and her still being upset about the breakup of Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston. You read that correctly. That's about as current as the book gets.
It essentially is her justifying her idolizing of minor actors, and then trying to question why people do that. She doesn't really give an answer.

Great book showed the story about how he was drafted last but skipped season while only showing 1 or 2 games and had small typos in the beginning.
    Entertaining and Informative
"Isaiah Thomas: The Inspiring Story..." is a good read once you get by the grammar errors and typos. But, if you're reading for content, the author is entertaining and informative. Isaiah Thomas is amazing!
I wanted to read about current favorite players from the celtics
I wanted to read about current favorite players from the celtics. There are not many books yet about Isaiah Thomas, Paul Pierce, and Kyrie Irving. I just read the kindle version of the Isaiah Thomas, and can't believe I bought three books from this author. Buyer Beware the majority of the book is stats you can get from researching box scores. Not much there in terms of specifics about his relationship with other players and coaches.
    Five Stars
Got this as a present for my nephew on Christmas. He was thrilled because he loves Isaiah Thomas.
    Three Stars
It was mostly just stats...not enough biographical information.

    So interesting
This was the first autobiography that I have read/listened to. I am an Andy Murray fan so I was interested in hearing Judy's story.
I loved it! I couldn't stop listening to it. She is an amazing women and I had no idea what as a family they gone through and achieved to get there.
    I throughly recommend it.
    Great coach, ambassador and mum.
I read this book as I've always played tennis. I expected to enjoy the insights into pro-tennis, and to hear how 2 brothers managed to get to be top players. I hadn't anticipated that I would enjoy even more than that, the story of a truly inspirational woman who has fought to get her boys to where they are and also given so much back. Well written, well read, an ace.
    Excellent!
Interesting, enlightening, very well written & Judy Murray's narration is excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
    Fantastic listen!
As a lifelong tennis fan this book was always going to appeal, but it greatly exceeded my expectations. The way Judy's own story was related along side Jamie and Andy's road to fame was so interesting. The struggles of aspiring young tennis players is clearly explained and you have to admire Judy's faith and support of her boys. I also admire her own personal journey to become a tennis coach and inspire many young players. Quite simply one of the best autobiographies I have listened to!
    Inspired
This is a wonderful book. So inspiring and empowering. Judy Murray tells her story so well and shows what can be achieved with belief

In this candid, revealing, and entertaining memoir, the beloved New York Yankee legend looks back over his nearly 50-year career as a player and a manager, sharing insights and stories about some of his most memorable moments and some of the biggest names in Major League Baseball.
For nearly five decades, Lou Piniella has been a fixture in Major League Baseball, as an outfielder with the legendary New York Yankees of the 1970s, and as a manager for five teams in both the American and National leagues. With respected veteran sportswriter Bill Madden, Piniella now reflects on his storied career, offering fans a glimpse of life on the field, in the dugout, and inside the clubhouse.

He also delves deep into his post-Yankee experiences, from winning a World Series for the controversial owner of the Cincinnati Reds, Marge Schott, to transforming the perennial cellar-dwelling Seattle Mariners into one of the league's best teams. Some of the game's brightest stars are here: Ken Griffey Jr, Randy Johnson, and Alex Rodriguez, Piniella's supremely talented and controversial protégé.
Throughout his time in the majors, Piniella has witnessed MLB grow into a multi-billion-dollar business. Piniella reflects on those changes, voicing his highly critical opinions on a range of controversial subjects, including steroids. Members Reviews:
    Great book.
If you could sum up Lou in three words, what would they be?
    Great baseball career.
What did you like best about this story?
I liked the first person account of the book.
Have you listened to any of Johnny Hellers other performances before? How does this one compare?
I can't answer, because I have not heard other narrations.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    Yes.
    Any additional comments?
Every time I hear an autobiography, I love to listen to an author write in the first person. Even if he, or she has another author co writing the book, as is the case of this book, you can always be sure that the person who narrates the story has approved everything the co writer has typed. I call your attention to other baseball autobiographies. Pedro, Francona the Red sox years, ball player, and the yankee years as good examples of novels like this one. I would also direct your attention to chapter sixteen of this book. In this chapter, Lou gives his thoughts on the current state of baseball, and some of the new rules that have been put in place.

    Publisher's Summary:
"I have walked into the palaces of kings and queens and into the houses of presidents. And much more. But I could not walk into a hotel in America and get a cup of coffee, and that made me mad." - Josephine Baker
"Surely the day will come when color means nothing more than the skin tone, when religion is seen uniquely as a way to speak one's soul, when birth places have the weight of a throw of the dice and all men are born free, when understanding breeds love and brotherhood." - Josephine Baker
From a young girl growing up in the slums of Missouri who hired herself out as a maid at 12 to provide for her younger siblings to the lead dancer in the Folies Bergere idolized by Parisians, Josephine Baker danced to the beat of her own drum. Undeniably she possessed an innate charisma, but she also went out of her way to make an audience notice her. As a chorus girl in Harlem, she might have remained a bit player, but Josephine would break out of the line, crossing her eyes and mugging funny faces, all the while ignoring the other girls' synced steps, to dance in her own wild and unique style.
She faced injustice and discrimination at many junctures of her life, but Josephine Baker, rather than succumbing to these setbacks, determinedly fought against them. During World War II, she enlisted as a member of the Resistance, mysteriously turning up in Morocco when many thought she had died. She also joined the fight for Civil Rights in the US, becoming such an instrumental figure that soon after Martin Luther King's assassination, his widow asked her to return to the US and serve as the new leader of the movement.
Josephine fought oppression, but she never lost her gaiety or joie de vivre. She was devoted to her career, but she was equally devoted to the 12 children of various ethnicities she adopted, dubbed the "Rainbow Tribe". In the 1960s, Josephine suffered illnesses and setbacks that left in dire financial straits, and in 1968, the woman who had once been at the top of Parisian society was evicted from her home by the Parisian government. For a moment, she thought her career was washed up, but in 1974, she played Carnegie Hall to a standing ovation, as well as the London Palladium and the Monaco Red Cross Gala that celebrated her 50 years in French show business. When Josephine died in 1975, over 20,000 people attended her funeral in Paris, which was viewed by countless others as it was broadcast on French television.
Josephine Baker was ahead of her time in many ways, which is probably why she still resonates so strongly with many people today. As a multi-dimensional woman who lived a life with hardly a dull moment, Josephine Baker steps out of the pages of history, much as she did as a chorus girl, and continues to capture people's interest.
