A fun and inspiring read by the Emmy-nominated producer/writer/director/programming executive
Want to know if there is any integrity left in show biz? Then you should read Andy Friendlyâs new book, Willing To Be Lucky: Adventures in Life and Television. A fun and inspiring read by the Emmy-nominated producer/writer/director/programming executive, whose life story shows that honesty, fairness and doing-the-right-thing still exists and can even co-exist with taking risks and reaping rewards.
Sprinkled generously with thought-provoking quotes, names and stories of the powerful and famous, from mentors such his dad, Fred Friendly, Edward R Murrow, Ralph Edwards, and Tom Snyder to his encounters with more infamous characters including Richard Pryor and Donald Trump, there are lessons to be learned here. In fact, the list in chapter 18, âA Few Coping skills I Wish I Had Known that Might Help Others,â stands out as an excellent catalog of advice-for-living.
Willing To Be Lucky is also about the value of family, the families we are born into or join by âmergersâ and the ones we create through marriage, enduring personal friendships and workplace bonds. I was fortunate to work with Andy Friendly for a short time on the making of the Ralph Edwards show, This Is Your Life in the 1980âs. His book brings back memories of a great group of co-workers and this truly nice man, Andy Friendly, who now shares his memoirs with us all. Arenât we lucky!

A Riveting Ride thru Television and Entertainment
If you like great stories about TV news figures, TV and live entertainment about some of the biggest names in those fields, you will love Andy's memoir. What a life this gentleman has had!! Humble, humorous, and revealing about the ups and downs in TV and entertainment. His dad, Fred Friendly was at the infancy of television working with Murrow and Cronkite. Went on to become the President of CBS News ... a legendary career. Andy branched out into more than news and carved a legendary swath himself as a first-rate producer and programmer ...terrific anecdotes about working with Tom Snyder, Richard Pryor, Geraldo Rivera, Phil Donahue, Dick Cavett and on and on. Andy provides great life advice, excellent photos and letters. Highly recommended!
