This is a series that brought tears to my eyes to see it end. Well worth the cost, and if you factor in most of the end of the series was crowd funded, it is impressive.

I wasn't even remotely interested in collecting the third instrument of assassination. It was far better for everyone involved - and Warner, specifically - if I just let it be. And since I was the only one who could retrieve the artifacts, I figured it was my call to make.
I was wrong. And while that wasn't unusual, I was just so wrong about everything. I was wrong about whom I was protecting and why. I was wrong about whom and what I could control. And I was wrong about whom I was becoming. Baker of cupcakes, maker of trinkets, half witch, half dragon, dowser, alchemist. Why couldn't I just be Jade?

Magical Witch story & Yummy Chocolate
I enjoyed the entire series of these books. Lots of adventure & fighting but a touch of romance mixed in too. I now crave chocolate cupcakes!
    fun listen
Listened to all books in a row. Enjoyed them, without having to feel like I always had to pay attention. Some writing was cheesy, but also very descriptive.
An end to the 2nd trilogy in the Dowser series...
What aspect of Caitlin Daviess performance might you have changed?
I've binged the Dowser series so much that Caitlin Davies's voice seems to narrate everything in my head at the moment. :)
Was Artifacts, Dragons, and Other Lethal Magic worth the listening time?
I was a little confused by the ending. The story unfolds as you would expect with Jade & her crew tracking down & finally confronting Shalija. Without giving anything away, Jade does what she's suppose to do but ends up on the wrath of someone. As to why they were upset did not fully make sense. I wish it had been explained more to full comprehend why they felt this way. Also has been indicated that something is not fully right with Kett & yet still has not been any clues or anything as to what is wrong. You can only hint at something with no further explanation before it get annoying. Baring that I still did enjoyed this latest addition in the Dowser series. Kandi & Drake were back in their usual hilarious forms. There was growth in both Jade's personal & magical life.
    Any additional comments?
This is the end to the 2nd trilogy in the Dowser & Meghan has confirmed on Goodreads there will be a 3rd trilogy in books 7,8 & 9.

    Publisher's Summary:
Bailey Chen is fresh out of college, with all the usual new-adult demons: no cash, no job offers, and an awkward relationship with Zane, the old friend she kinda-sorta hooked up with during high school.
But when Zane introduces Bailey to his monster-fighting bartender friends, her demons become a lot more literal. It turns out evil creatures stalk the city streets after hours, and they can be hunted only with the help of magically mixed cocktails: Vodka grants super strength, whiskey offers the power of telekinesis, and tequila lets its drinker fire blasts of elemental energy. But will all of these powers be enough for Bailey to halt a mysterious rash of gruesome deaths? And what will she do when the safety of a real-world job beckons?
This sharp and funny urban fantasy is perfect for fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and grown-up listeners of Harry Potter. Includes 15 recipes from a book of ancient cocktail lore.

    Not bad, but not great
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
The story itself was not too bad, if Krueger put out a sequel, or even a book outside this realm, I would probably give it a try. The concept is definitely there. He has the talent. So, yes, I would urge someone to give it a try. Just because I wasn't head over heels about it, doesn't mean someone might not love it.
Would you be willing to try another one of Emily Woo Zellers performances?
I doubt it. It took me 6-7 chapters to not notice her voice and the way she speaks. It was very distracting. I actually considered asking for a refund and picking a different book. Once I was halfway through the book I was more into the story and didn't notice her voice as much.
Was Last Call at the Nightshade Lounge worth the listening time?
The story is solid. I think people will like it. It's fun, but I just wish there'd been a different narrator.
    Well worth the listen
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Sure. In fact, I think I will, since the mix of humour and action will probably appeal to one of my friends who is a big Buffy fan.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I liked all of them really, but Bailey's mentor (not Zane, the other one..I'm terrible with names) endeared himself to me.
What does Emily Woo Zeller bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
What any competent narrator brings. She's pretty good at doing different voices for each character, and that brings it to life in a way that simply reading wouldn't.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Not really. It made me smile though, and listening to it while working made my day a lot less boring. I also made about 100 mental notes to learn more about various drinks.
    Any additional comments?
If you're looking for a deep book with lots of character development and maybe an underlying message about coming of age or something like that, then this isn't the book for you. If, however, you're looking for a few hours of action filled fun, go right ahead.

    Awesome Idea, Slightly Disappointing Execution
First of all, Simon Vance! I could listen to that guy read the phone book. So good.
Now, Brian Lumley. He has amazingly cool ideas in the vein of modern, weird horror, and this book is no exception. In execution, he sometimes relies to much on telling rather than showing - robbing the reader of the chilling experience in favor of a kind of intellectual recap. Sadly, this book is no different. I enjoyed the book though. And to be fair, it is no more lacking in direct-experience than Lovecraft himself!
I don't want to share any plot details for fear of spoiling too much. But the basics are that you have an occult investigator/secret agent in your protagonist, Titus Crow, who uncovers a plot 'hatched' (you'll get that pun later) by Chtonians, an ancient and evil subterranean race.
    Classic Lovecraftian tales updated!
Moments after starting it, I began to feel the gravitas of the story. Even more than a "names have been changed to protect the innocent" it felt to be a true conveyance of a hidden event.
Simon Vance brings a reality to it all with his narration. What a brilliant sustained performance, one that will set the standards of what quality work both Lumley and Vance have achieved together.
    Thank you gentlemen!
My take on Mr Lumley's writings..
For sixty years, I have enjoyed books that were almost exclusively science fiction...hundreds of books and some few more than once. Ten, or so, years ago, I happened to purchase two of Brian's books and found them to be delightfully compelling.
I would say that few of that other not dissimilar genre have been as fun and detailed as these. I would love to thank him for the fun and interesting reads that he has provided!
The narration was beyond anything in my experience! Amazing!
I am currently rereading two other of his books and would very much enjoy hearing more of Mr Vance. Thank you for the opportunity to express my appreciation.

    Title: Red Knight Falling
    Subtitle: Harmony Black, Book 2

Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Fantasy: Paranormal
    Publisher's Summary:
FBI agent Harmony Black and her team, Vigilant Lock, face a new type of threat: one from beyond the stars.
They'd always heard the Red Knight was an urban legend: in 1954, three years before Sputnik launched, a mysterious satellite was sighted circling Earth, though no power on the planet had such technology.
But the Red Knight is real, and what's more, it's inextricably linked to a supernatural force no one yet understands. Like a moth to a flame, this dark presence collides annually with the airborne satellite. Except this year the Red Knight is on course to crash-land...in Oregon.
Vigilant Lock sets out to find the crash site and secure the remnants before the mysterious power is drawn to Earth. But they soon discover the mission is far from straightforward - and they aren't the only ones tracking the Red Knight. To stop a deadly occult threat, Harmony and her team must use all their resources: technology and sorcery, science and magic. Fortunately, Harmony has only begun to discover her growing power.

Another good story marred by poor narrative choices
I prefer Schaefers Faust novels, but this second Harmony Black book is good and stronger than the first.
I found myself hating Agent Temple, but when I stepped back, I realized it wasnt her actions or even her words that were driving that responseit was her narration. Traister is generally a decent narrator, but the voice shes chosen for the character is obnoxiously over the top, exaggerating her worst traits and transforming what should be a decent supporting role into an annoying caricature.
    Great Car Reading
Craig Schaefer writes a great book to listen to over several weeks of commuting. From his Faust series to this new Harmony Black series they have all been enjoyable and fun listening. Kudos sir.
    Superb
Tightly woven plot with unpredictable turns and imperfect, like able characters. Can't wait for the next one!
    Overbearing narration
The premise of this book is a riff on the Black Knight satellite conspiracy theory. It's the occult version of a technothriller, and observes the usual cliches, such as untrustworthy WASPs in high places talking funny; the phrase "terminate with extreme prejudice" does in fact occur in the book.
Couldn't tell you much more than that, since the book takes a long time to get moving, and I bailed on it before it did. The issue was the narration. Christina Traister's women aren't afraid to occupy space, and she gets a nice 1940s sass and swing, like Caity Lotz. This is a very punchy style, and unfortunately she doesn't modulate her performance very much. Most of the text gets attacked hard, even lines like "We set up camp at dusk," which is at odds with actually telling a story. Everything is emphasized, so nothing is emphasized.
I tried four or five times to get through the book, and the punchiness defeated me. It made it too hard to follow what was going on, like a kid running around and honking a horn while you're trying to have a conversation. After a while my ears started to hurt.
    Top Notch
Loved it! A great story, with interesting characters, and an engaging performance. But if you haven't listened to the first book in the series, then start there.

    Publisher's Summary:
Vincent Corinthos has two things going for him: he's a top operative of a secret agency tasked with handling paranormal threats, and he's half-god. Normally that's a combo that leaves him well-equipped to handle any problems that come his way.
Until now. Something is snatching Boston's most powerful paranormal entities right off the streets. Vampires, lycanthropes, fae, gremlins - no one is safe. No ransom notes, no bodies, no witnesses. Rumors swirl about a secret project that's experimenting on paranormals. Then a fellow agent disappears and things get personal.
Aided by a new partner and a hyperactive gremlin with an appetite for junk food, Vincent must find the missing paranormals before everything he cares about falls under the control of Project Imperium.

I enjoyed this audio book immensely!
I chose to read this book for one reason: I looked something like Hercules or Percy Jackson working for aparanormal faction of aMen In Back type agency. I have love for mythology and folklore, so it was a no-brainer to check this one out. It delivered all of those things, plus some humor and a dash of pop culture. I was sucked in immediately.
Vincent Corinthos, our main protagonist and demigod, was born with the Caul (you'll find out). He is also an agent of Caulborn, a sort of paranormal bureau of investigation, and his latest case involves the mysterious disappearance of several paranormals. Vincent and his new partner, Megan, team up with Gremlins and Golems in an attempt to stop these disappearances. In addition to battling vampires in New England, Vinny has his own problems on the Bright Side; someone is trying to take control of the Urisk. The Urisk worship Vincent as a god, which is the source of his godlike powers.
I enjoyed this audio book immensely! Vinny is charismatic, caring, and humble; he's a hero you can't help but love. Chemistry between the characters is great, as well as the characters themselves. They are all unique and three-dimensional, enjoyable and relatable in their own right. It's filled with all manner of creatures; from mythological and biblical, to things that go bump in the night this world has it. There are some unique applications to some of these creatures that I really enjoyed, but you'll have to listen yourself to find out what. Which should be a pleasure thanks to Ian McEuen.
McEuen was very impressive and a complete pleasure to listen to. He reminded me of Nick Podehl, which is an absolute compliment. In addition to the great production quality, I felt he was a great voice for the novel. His voice talent is very good and his delivery added a lot to the characters. From what I've seen he has only a few books on audible. I will be getting the second Caulborn audio book and I look forward to hearing more from both Nicholas Olivo an Ian McEuen.
Audiobook was provided for review by the narrator.

    Terrible Demigod
So this Vincent Corinthos is a demigod. If he was my demigod, the guy would have been fired from the job long ago. He spends more time getting his ass kicked during the entire book and this dude is dumb as a stump. One point in the book a Horseman of the apocalypse pays this idiot a visit and warms him not to use his pets.

    Fast paced and fun
This quick paced enjoyable audiobook is defiantly an 18 plus read due to its explicit sexual content. Even though I had not read the first in the series, I had no problem following the storyline as the author did a good job of filling the reader in on any relevant aspects from the first book. Missy the Werecat has graduated from high school and started her military training. Her life is progressing well; she has gained more control over her powers and is even developing a few new ones, Mike and her have bonded (hence the sexual scenes) and she is flourishing well at West Point. Missy is a caring, intelligent, tough character who isn't afraid to fight to protect those she cares for. She copes well when she discovers that a special branch of the Government know she is a shifter and is able to enlist their help in dealing with the Mob. Mike is Missy's human boyfriend, he is exceedingly understanding and supportive and the chemistry between him and Missy is great, but sometimes the sex scenes are too long and overpower the storyline rather than add to it. Her adventures at West Point are enjoyable and the friends she makes are appealing and interesting. The narration was well done and it fit the story well. I received this audiobook from the author in exchange for an honest review.

5th in the Series and it doesn't get old
Allyson James writes/tells a fabulous story. She gives enough detail to bring you in and capture your sense of advanture and romance. She doesn't give you any irrelevant information. She ties in the previous books very subtly. Hillary Huber does a fantastic job of narrating this very dynamic series. Janet and Mick have a very sexy relationship. Even when it is drastically tested. Love this story and this series. One more to go and then I guess I will have to branch out to other Allyson James stories to see how they compare.
    Welcome Back--Great story
I have read all 4 books in the Stormwalker series, and then waited for book 5. Almost a 21/2 year wait. But you came out with book 5. I was wondering if I needed to reread at least book 4 to remember what was going on---but found out quickly there was no need. "Dream walker' is beautifully written with all of the back story information needed and reminders of the actions in the other stories, and yet an all new story--well done. Great use of the magic mirror and using all the important characters made the story flow seamlessly. Cant wait for book 6

I'm hoping next book in the series explains this ending!
I'm totally confused by the ending of this #5 book. Series sometimes fall into the trap of having to out shock the last book in each remaining one. This was a shock but failed to make sense. The final results could have easily been avoided by other means by the perpetrator. Sorry, don't want to give anything away. Yes, I know this is fantasy but l like them best when they mirror real life. unlimited powers mean just that. I guess the 'lesson' is that revenge is never justified because of collateral damage?
    homeland meets trueblood.
the narrator was excellent as always. It keeps you guessing but after reading the first 5 books you kind of get the formula and start seeing the foreshadowing. it's well done and fun. I kept relistening to parts to make sure I knew what was going on. I still struggle with some of the sequences that don't seem to make sense buy I'm a bit on the science side of scifi.
Wow, I was not expecting that!
This book was full of unexpected turns. Making it hard to stop listening to. It started a little bit slow for me and I was not thrilled with the course of action that our heroine took. Towards the middle and by the end I was definitely hooked! I am eager to see where Harper will take us next in this series. The narrator is outstanding.

Verity Price is back on the West Coast and getting back into the swing of the family business: cryptozoology. She's rescuing cryptids from bad situations, protecting them from monster hunters, and generally risking life and limb for the greater good, with her ex-Covenant partner/husband, Dominic, by her side. Her ballroom dance career is behind her - or so she thinks.
When Verity gets the call from the producers of Dance or Die, the reality show she almost won several years before, she finds the lure impossible to resist, and she and Dominic are off to LA for one last shot at the big time. Of course, nothing is that simple. When two contestants turn up dead, Verity will need every ally she can find with the investigation, without blowing her cover....

    Fun
The story is lots of fun. Seanan McGuire has created a fun and unusual counter world full of cryptid/monsters with lots of quirky personalties. The reading is good, very listenable. I'm finding it a little disconcerting that Verity's (now) husband has gone from being a Brit, with a British accent, to something vaguely Indian sounding. But by and large the characterizations are very good.
    This series continues to deliver!
In the latest volume of the Incryptid series we return to the perspective of the original main character, Verity Price. She is as fun and engaging as ever and this book is a very enjoyable continuation of the series. More details of the Price family, both past and present, unfold in the background like a second setting for the story. I can't wait to hear more. I hope that Ms. McGuire continues to work from this world for some time to come.
Emily Bauer gives a skillful performance making for a great listen. I punched the air with joy the first time I heard her cry "Hail!" I have no complaints about her work, but I will admit I wish they would team Ms. Bauer and Mr. Porter, reader for the preceding two books, up as a team. That would be a freight train of fun listening in the urban fantasy world.
    Still love it!
It was wonderful to be back with Verity Price! I have a bias for this series. We get a wonderful surprise with the appearance of the famous Grandma Alice. This is the time when Verity must make the choice for her life. Will she be a dancer or a cryptozoology? This decision not only affects her but Dominic as well. They are now happily married. Remember they had to leave New York because of the Covent.
So I am happy as a two-year-old playing in the rain on a warm day. Verity/Valerie is dancing! That has never played a large part of the plot. We meet her friends, she actually has a BFF and her dance partner. Of course when you have dancers, there is always a bitch and that is no difference here. We are taken on a view of the world of competitive dancing. To document the adventure, we have the Aeslin mice! I love them and how every day is a day of celebration. A one point where Verity and Dominic wants a little privacy, they offer the mice food. A mouse said, you are doing that to get rid of us LMAO Hail
The Price never goes anywhere where there is not a problem. That holds true here. With bodies showing up Verity/Valerie is torn between dancing and saving lives. Of course she can do both.
