The fun conclusion to Season 3

Where does Oh Bubba, Where Art Thou? rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

The entire season is solid ranking toward the top third of the hundreds of books I own. This season are four novellas with a beginning middle and end rather than a large single novel as was the case with the first two seasons which I rank higher. I just prefer a single large novel over four small novellas but again each is a complete story and very good ones at that.

What did you like best about this story?

The way it made me feel. I own zero albums by any of the artist listed in the story but I still felt it at my core.

What about John Solos performance did you like?

That he kept Bubba honest. He is at his core a redneck and he could have changed his narration to have him be much more sophisticated than the author intended him to be but he stayed true to the source material.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I don't want to spoil it but I have the same non-relationship that the character has with his family member so that part of the story resonated with me.

Any additional comments?

As of this date if you haven't bought Season 3 buy that as it contains all four stories for the price of one. I have no regrets about buying the stories individually as I got them much sooner than I would have if I had waited but at this point purchasing individual stories to this season is a bad deal.

A Wonderful New Take on the Genre

What made the experience of listening to Drawing Dead the most enjoyable?

The narrator's voices. Great characters and wonderful to listen to. The action sequences were fantastic.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Absolutely! It was great to follow along with Faolin's path.

What does Brian Rollins bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

I'm a huge fan of the narrator and I always love his characters and voices.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I think the climax after the poker game. I don't want to give too much away, but it was really cool how it ended.

I'm not usually a reader of vampire fiction, but I follow the narrator's work and love it. Great work by the author and reader!

For Love of New York

Faolan OConnor knows how to kill. When he is offered immortality by Killian he doesnt know that he will kill more as a vampire than he ever did as a mobster. Although, Faolan is known for killing his own bosses when there is a need, it is quickly established that he has a real love of his hometown and a deep seated need to find loyal companions who will love him for who he is and not for what he can do for him. This awakening to his emotions sets Faolan up to play a long poker game where the stakes are high and losing most likely means death.

I enjoyed this listen and thought the narration was good. Faolan is a complicated man and an even more complicated vampire. The voice Brian Rollins used belied this complexity because he used a Bronx or Queens accent and this made him sound not that bright at times but once you get a glimpse into his inner thoughts you know he is a bright light in Killians army.

1930s mob noir with a vampire twist

What made the experience of listening to Drawing Dead the most enjoyable?

The concept of old time gangster vampires was like nothing I have heard before. Elaborate character and world building within the vampire mob was very interesting. The main character has a complex personality that doesn't immediately make him the hero of the book. Through the interaction s with the other characters and events he becomes more understandable and sympathetic. A take on the vampire genre I have not come across held my interest to the end.

Stones Skipping on Water is not a normal book. Richard Taylor builds a novel around one thing Clear Thought. A drug that enhances many things the multiple uses of this drug is staggering, that is until the scientist, Gordon, the mysterious beautiful Vanessa and the rich venture capitalist, John partake of this experimental drug. Then the listener is treated to a novel that makes your head swirl.

Taylor creates a story that both fascinates and entertains but has that feeling of being on a loop that never stops. Karma, destiny or fate whatever you want to call it drives the loop, as a person there is nothing to stop the loop regardless Taylor makes you think about the soul, God, reincarnation, destiny, interconnectedness of people and more. The listener will learn and wonder alongside John and Vanessa.

I enjoyed how Taylor created the story, how he developed not only the main characters but their past as well. His ability to show the interconnectedness of lives and how randomness is an illusion.

The book is highly erotic thus putting to rest a doubt I had the doubt that men can write poetically and flowing through the act with over the top descriptions that are not crude. While well done, I tired of it.

I loved the analogy of skipping stones with the story well done! This is an action packed thrilling story with romance, sex, a love triangle for all time and revenge. Not one to miss for sure!

The narrator, Paul Heitsch is wonderful. He speaks clearly and concisely projecting the right amount of fear, dread, awe and other emotions. I thought his voice was perfect; he owned the book!

There were no issues with the quality of production of this audio book. It was well done!

I had the pleasure of LISTENING to a copy of this book read by the author. Initially a bit flat, as the story takes off the author gets more involved in his narration and does some terrific voices including quite a credible accent for his American-born hero. I almost always enjoy when authors read their own books as you get to hear the characters as s/he does--sometimes quite differently than you might have imagined them from the words on the page or the characters on a screen (movie/TV adaptations). After finishing the audiobook I did go back and read the first few chapters, surprised to learn that the head of The Circle is Beryn rather than Baron Comstock--pronounced, after all, the same, and, as the primary setting is London, noble titles would not be unexpected at CEO levels. In fact names are often my biggest challenge in a narrated book as I am a rather visual person, but the freedom to do other things (driving, laundry, riding a bike) while educating and entertaining one's mind is a real joy.

Now let's talk about the story. The particular talent of our hero is new to me and the style of "magick" used, involving sigils, and the various nonhuman creatures were, largely, as well, at least in their present adaptations. I am, of course, familiar with both the Disney and 1001 Nights (well, at least one of the English translations of the "Golden Age" Arabic original) versions of the Aladdin story of the genie/djinn) and was delighted with the spin Mr. Isserow put on the tale. Having not read Lovecraft, my knowledge of Cthulu is severely limited but he/it gets to play, too. Imaginative, creative and fast-paced, blown up bridges and chases, this adventure does call out for a Hollywood treatment but also does quite well in its present formats and I would recommend it for middle school (no sex; some graphic violence but well within tolerance for any who already read science fiction/fantasy; PG-13) on up.

Shadowmancer

Lee Isserow has a magical voice for narration.He is also the author.A nice combo.I liked this book.Jules was born with magic.He always kept it low profile but one day he decides to just let it go.He is then taken to an agency where they put the magical to work fighting evil.I was provided this book by the Author or publisher.

entertaining

the story was great, the writing was great, the narration was great, but the over the top disturbing sexual parts were very bad.

It's Short! If You Blink, You Might Miss It!

I love supporting new authors, and narrators, but after visiting Kevin's website, I was pleasantly surprised to learn Kevin is actually a veteran author. I'm not a big horror fan; however, I love stories that have a paranormal twist, and that's what drew me to this story. It's only 32 minutes long, so I don't think it's fair to compare this one with a full length novel. With that being said, this story was the perfect length for an office visit I had today, and was able to listen in one sitting. Even though I was not able to form a connection with the characters, and wanted to learn more about them, I could tell they had a lot of potential. The plot was good, and moved at a really fast pace. (Don't be like me, and get distracted, you'll have to rewind.) What I enjoyed most was the plot twist towards the end, and how it leaves it. I can't give too many details, or I will give away the story. IMO, this would make an excellent full length novel.

This is the first audio I listened to narrated by Fred, and I though he did a great job. I received this audio in exchange for an honest review.

Short Form Horror

Short form horror is a difficult medium to work with because scares can become cheap and characters can fall flat. This short story, however, had my interest from the start and ended up taking me for a fun ride. I'd recommend this lil' tale to any horror lovers with only half an hour to spare!

Children of the snow

This is a good story though it is too short.Fred Filbrich was a fine narrator.Very convincing.I was given this book free by the author, narrator or publisher.

Too short, I want more!

This tale, while short, was still able to deliver a lot of personality and back story. There's no big mystery as to what it's about as the synopsis gives that away, but the WAY in which it is told is what makes this a great listen.

Most of the story revolves around 2 law enforcement officers dealing with a sudden supernatural "situation". Because the text is so short, much of the back story had to be relayed by one character to the other. Thankfully, it wasn't ham-fisted, leaving the dialogue very natural and believable.

That said, had the author lengthened this into a full-length novel, I think they would have had a hit on their hands. As it stands, it sounds like a (well-written) cliff-notes version of a great novel.

As for the narrator, I felt he was a perfect fit and did an excellent job.

It should be noted that I was provided this book, free of charge, in exchange for my unbiased review.

What made the experience of listening to Negro (Spanish Edition) the most enjoyable?

Encouraging, thought-provoking speculation about God and the fall of humankind. Also, the story is very engaging.

Disappointing, abrupt ending--without resolution. I realize that the entire story won't fit in one book, but it felt as if a longer work was chopped into pieces, and I feel let down by books (or movies) whose endings merely set you up for a sequel. To achieve some closure, it's obvious that I'd need to buy the next book in the series, but will book two also end abruptly? With more work, the ending could have been more satisfying while still compelling me to buy the next book in the series.

Light & entertaining

A decent story, and entertaining. Not especially fond of thee reader, since she sounds like a little girl all the time. The voice becomes grating after a while.

Reader is too stiff

I can't even get through the first chapter, the lady reading sounds like she is reading a book to children- she does not portray the voice of the story because she is so stiff and maintains the same overexcited/nervous voice for every sentence.

It has more twist the old ivy. Love the characters and how they reacted to each other.

Better Than Expected

I was pleasantly surprised by October's November. From the initial description I didn't know how much I would enjoy it, but honestly, I loved it. Listening to James Loram's performance, I was instantly hooked.

The book itself is very much a fully immersive experience, and James Loram has done an incredible job of placing the listener into the mind of a madman, the psyche of a victim, and the desperate struggle of a protagonist to break out of the darkness. His references to classic music, as well as several of his own original compositions make for an engrossing tale interwoven with culture and art.

My one criticism is the fact that many scenes were confusing in their execution and I found myself having to rewind and listen over and over in order to fully comprehend what was happening. Outside of those few hiccups, I absolutely did not want to stop listening to October's November until I reached the end.

A modern tale of the supernatural and the strength inside every human being to rise up and become a hero, October's November is a complex and enjoyable story.

Ambitious Effort on a Passionate Project

October's November by James Loram is an ambitious undertaking toward creating a fun and interesting listening experience for the audience. However, there are some aspects of this which fall short and could really turn off some listeners from listening to the entire production.

In a nutshell, October, the main character, has the power to see people's violent intentions in the form of a dark cloud over their heads. While playing a gig at a local coffee shop, he meets a girl name Hannah who he immediately connects with. Unfortunately, Hannah is being stalked by a creep named Karl who gets off on drugging women and raping them. October and, his friend and band mate, Tom save Hannah from Karl but he escapes before he could be captured. As October and Hannah's relationship grows and flourishes, Karl regroups and conspires to finish what he started. Along the way, October must content with Detective Foster who believes October knows more than he lets on and another mysterious player in this strange and deadly supernatural horror/mystery.

Overall, the story works because of its simplicity. At it's most simplest form, it's a supernatural love story with some music peppered in to give October a bit more depth than his special powers.
