When she inherits Woodmere Manor in the Hudson Valley in New York from her estranged father, she makes big plans for the future, but the past still holds sway over the fog shrouded mansion. Morgan begins to question her sanity when she sees a ghost and learns about the tortured history of the house, and its five tower rooms.
To complicate matters, two men make it difficult to listen to her own heart. Owen Long, the estate caretaker, offers friendship and understanding while Noel Crimson, a local priest with a tragic past of his own, haunts her thoughts. And time is running out because someone or something wants Morgan dead. Morgan must figure out if man or spirit haunts Woodmere Manor if she is going to save her life and find love.

    More Gothic Romance...
...than suspenseful, creepy tale. When Morgan suddenly inherits Woodmere Manor from a father she didn't know existed, she is thrust into a mystery on her very first night! She is enchanted with a strange portrait of a woman and another of a solemn man who stare at each other from across a room. Morgan must decide if she is just spooked to be living in the mansion alone or if there is something more supernatural or sinister going on.
I would have liked more suspenseful, creepiness in this listen over the romance aspects that took up much of Morgan's time. She did such stupid things. First, she sees the man from the painting on her lawn and then goes and adopts...a cat?? Second, she immediately develops an attraction for the local priest. I mean like at first sight. Third, the priest offers to bless her home when she confides in him about her finds in the tower and she doesn't have him do it, like right now? The premise was a good one for this story but I would have liked less of the romance and angst that took up so much of Morgan's thoughts and more creepy, suspenseful atmosphere as well as more backstory on Morgan, her father, Noel, and Owen.
I enjoyed some of Daniela Acitelli's narration like Morgan, Noel, and her old lady voices but others were annoying or weird sounding like Owen and the psychic lady. Owen's voice was so weird, it had me wondering how Morgan could be conflicted by him at all.

    Bad ending
What a great story. I was so into this story. I was on the edge of my seat and couldn't wait to start listening each day. I didn't like the way the narrator pronounced things when talking with any of the male characters (slow and deliberate).
This book doesn't stand on its own. It just stops and you need the next book to continue the story. I don't like books that can't stand on their own.

    The Devil is a bore...
I didn't love it. It was mediocre, a bit sophomoric. The narrator was good, his voice was smooth and very sexy. I struggled to finish it. I found it difficult to believe that The Devil has been on the earth for 6,000 years and he's working for someone else. And being the epitome of evil, older than man and he can't find a more interesting way to murder people. I mean stabbing; really. The conversations were on a high school level and it was quite boring. Waste of time!
    started well
The story started well and I was hoping for a climatic Twist at the end which never came.

    Great Werewolf Fun
This is the third time I have visited this little East Texas town. The first two were in print and on the Kindle. This Audible version was a great treat. I loved the story and characters already, but the narrator added a fresh easy pace to the story. Mr Heathcock's freshman offering was comparable to many seasoned narration veterans. I have listened to over 100 books of all genres so I have the experiance to say this.
If you love horror and want something compelling and different, this is your book. I absolutely love this story and the characters. My only complaint is that I wish Mr. Miller would hurry up and let us know what the future holds for Katie Liberman and the rest of Twin Oaks Texas. I will be expectantly waiting for the next installment and Mr Heathcock's next performance.
    Brilliant!!
If you could sum up A Taste of Home in three words, what would they be?
    Worth every minute
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Yes, there were many twists and turns. Not like the usual, predictable paranormal literature.
What does Jesse Heathcock bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
This is the first time I've heard this narrator. I'm impressed
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The author's ability to make you feel empathy for the characters is impeccable.
    Any additional comments?
I am blown away not only by the break out narrator but also by the sterling talent of Mr. Miller. His flair at weaving a complex story line full of intrigue left me completely breathless. Anyone who has lived in a small town will certainly relate to the descriptive and often comical chronicles. Complete disclosure I only purchased this audio book to support a local author, so imagine the treat in finding this was truly a diamond in the rough. When will the next one be out?!?!
    Love this book
Would you listen to A Taste of Home again? Why?
Yes I would. Just hearing it made it come to life.
What other book might you compare A Taste of Home to and why?
None because I love all of C Derick Miller's books.
    Which scene was your favorite?
All of them. This book had me on edge with every chapter.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
    The best thing out there.
    Any additional comments?
C Derick Miller is a wonderful writer. I already had the book but hearing it brought it to life.

    Bravo Bailey
I absolutely loved the pull between good and evil in this story because it mimics real life, in my opinion. We all are battling good and evil, even within our own minds. When evil attempts to kill good in this story, I kind of had to think about that because evil is a trusted friend of good. In true life, evil is often disguised as a good friend, and we don't know it until it's too late and damage has been done. I love the author's writing style and the way she builds the suspense throughout a chapter and then leaves the reader hanging and switches to another character/chapter. It's what keeps me listening and rating the story with 5 stars. I hope book two is just as suspenseful. Paul McSorley does an outstanding, professional job with his narration. Nice, clean audio.
    it was entertaining
I'm not into religious books and this one was just on the edge for me. I would listen to the rest of the series tho. it was more paranormal than religious. the narration was great, and I found it entertaining.
    Service with a grimace
A slow starting novel. The performance, however, was outstanding. Bobby is definitely a reluctant hero but it will be interesting to see where the mantel of servitude takes home in future books.
Great book of good vs evil
What made the experience of listening to Servant the most enjoyable?
    Great story and great narrator.
Who was your favorite character and why?
    Bobby.
Have you listened to any of Paul J. McSorleys other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have listened to other performances by Paul J. McSorley. He always does a great job.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Great book. You will enjoy it.
When is the next book coming out?
Didn't want to put it down. Narrator captured the story's essence. The little extra at the end was a treat! I can't wait for the next in the series.

Great fun snarky, witty, fantasy mystery
Where does Cold Hard Steele rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
    love it, near the top!
What was one of the most memorable moments of Cold Hard Steele?
Cold Hard Steele (Daggers & Steele #2) by Alex P. Berg is a book you could read without reading the first book and not get lost. I liked this one even better than the first and I loved the first book. I also listened to the audio version with this one. I love the snarky, witty, clever dialogue or behaviors between the characters. The mystery is very good too but the craziness between the players is so funny. I smile a lot in these books! I really enjoy them and can't wait to read more!
If you enjoyed the first you'll love this.
This book was right up my alley. It's a good blend of light hearted pulp detective books and urban fantasy for fans of both genres. A fun read that left me waiting for the next book.

    BOOK 6
What made the experience of listening to Wizard's Nocturne the most enjoyable?
Another suspenseful audiobook in this series. It kept my interest all throughout the book. Looking forward to the next book in this series
Did NOT let me down! I got the twist I looked for.
What about Joe Hempels performance did you like?
So glad to be listening to Joe again! He IS Jonathan Shade. Joe voices the attitude and personality of the characters just as I would hear them with the cues given in words by the author. We get two versions of Jonathan at the same time and Joe's voicing of both fits each Jonathan. One's older and wiser in what he says, the other is younger and hotter with his words and actions. Joe slips into the characters with ease and I believe his voice to be them. By this point in the series, Joe has perfected the seamless narration and he's part of the book. There are NO distractions from the story, only adding a new dimension to the story through voice.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
There is a moment with Henry and Jonathan that was so touching that my eyes welled up. It was perfectly places with the build up of their relationship and gave me the feel that the big moment was coming for Henry. Well done.
    Any additional comments?
Jonathan found a friend and more in Henry as he raised him to be a good man. He's told Henry much of what's to come. Sure there are a few details that Jonathan held back, but the major outcome of what's to happen this day and change Henry's life was always known to Henry. They have planned for this. We don't know all the plans, but we get to know them as Jonathan goes through the actions of bringing things together this day. We even see the interaction with Rayna.
It's neat seeing how time and events overlap. We see some events from Jonathan's side that connect with Rayna's events in previous books. Very cool! We didn't get as much from Rayna's POV in previous books, but what we did get was powerful and memorable because I wanted to know what came of her in this time, it resurfaces here and we learn.
I know Gary always has a sly way of changing everything in a story. It all fits and smoothly moves along yet still surprises me.
Wow. What a twisted time line. lol. Hats off to the author for keeping it all straight and in line, keeping the events and time streams clear as they are different with each character living their own time line.

    Buchanan,s Montana
Great story with tons of suspense and mystery. I hope the series will continue on with Sheriff Jim and family. More about real life on the reservations in Montana is a great storyline as long as it is realistic.
Generally good read if you can take the scean jumps.
I have enjoyed reading all the books in this series but I can only give it 4 stars as the writing is choppy in places and the transitions rough. This is throughout the series. This is a small distraction to a great read with bad characters to keep the readers interest.
    Great storyline
Very much enjoying Jim Buchanan and the characters in this series. Learning more about the Native Americans in the north country of Montana. A must read series.

What did you love best about Big Easy?
A great combination of intrigue and history. Really makes me want to go to New Orleans and visit this great city to party !!!
    Great narration by JH
    DNF!
DNF. I got to 35% and can't keep going. The POV is all over the place and the story badly needs a good edit!! E.g.: Words and phrases repeatedly used and the some of the sentences are pretty basic, better descriptions could have been used etc. The only thing going for it is the setting and narrator.
Joe Hempel was the only reason I kept listening to the book for so long, I would have given up at about 10% but really enjoyed his narration. He is so easy to listen to and has an admiral range of tones and cadences! He is definitely a narrator to keep an eye on.
*I received a copy of this for free but voluntarily reviewed it. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.*
    good read
I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher. I was pleasantly surprised by this book. The voodoo aspect of the story was really interesting. It seemed really intellectual instead of being corny. The plot was great and easy to follow. Even though you find out who the killer is relatively early on, it managed to hold my interest throughout the entire story as you figure out what is really going on. The narrator did a good job and was easy to listen to.
    Big Easy
Mystery, voodoo, dissapearances of people, it is all in this book.Told with perfect narration by Joe Hemple we are drawn into the world of New Orleans cooking, religion and cemeteries.
A suspenseful story.I was given this book free by the author, narrator or publisher.
    Big Easy
    Any additional comments?
Overall an entertaining, interesting and enjoyable. It took me a while to really get interested in the story. It just wasn't holding my attention. It was just to "rambling" in the beginning. Little by little though the story drew me in and keep me listening until the end.
Mystery, suspense, voodoo, murder, spirits and more.
Very interesting cast of characters. Great descriptions of the city make you feel like you are there with the characters.

The whispered words of a dying woman reach beyond the grave. Those who answer the call seek revenge.
When Emerson arrives for his new job as project manager of a Colorado casino resort, he doesn't realize he is putting himself in peril. But inexplicable things are happening at the Crandall construction site, things he can't even believe, let alone fight.
This job means survival, for him and the most important person in his life, so he accepts the challenges caused by the driven developer and his family, people who range from strange to downright dangerous. Then, there's the appealing but forbidden woman who is determined to ruin them. Not to mention that Emerson has noticed some of the locals whispering that the Crandall might be cursed.
But dealing with these difficult people seems easy compared to his growing anxiety that something is out there, something worse than anything he has ever faced.
In this fast-paced paranormal tale of suspense, unforgivable acts cannot go unpunished. But who - or what - will deliver retribution?
With the resort's grand opening just weeks away, Emerson can no longer deny the truth. The evil is real. As the truth is revealed, will he reverse the course of destiny or become the next victim?

    Hair-raising paranormal adventure!
Fans of fast-paced supernatural thrillers will not be disappointed with this creepy page-turner! The book opens with a literal runaway on horseback, a fitting metaphor for the reader's adventure through the pages-- almost before you're in the saddle, you're off and running with a fresh and nimble mount, charging into paranormal experience! Surprising twists and engaging characters emerge in the quieter moments between the scenes of eerie encounters with forces much larger than human understanding. Sure to be a favorite of readers who love nothing more than to be swept into a book they cannot put down!
    Big, Scary, Dangerous Ghosts!
The Crandall Haunting by A. H. Gilbert is chilling in all the right places. My eyes were glued to the page in this horror-suspense. A true ghost story with big, dangerous scary ghosts and a father and daughter who are in peril through their bloodline rather than their deeds. I was worried about Emerson and his daughter, Courtney, as they arrive on the Crandall estate unaware of the ghostly targets upon their backs. A. H. Gilbert has crafts a spine-tingling tale. Highly recommended.
As one whose favorite genre is supernatural/UFO stories
As one whose favorite genre is supernatural/UFO stories, I also tend to have high expectations and am easily disappointed or critical. This story did not disappoint! Ma Gilbert is talented at weaving a story and connecting many patterns into an interesting quilt of mystery and tension. This her first publishing is a great appetizer for what will yet come! I will be on the lookout, with great anticipation, for her next book!
    I loved the Crandall Haunting
I loved the Crandall Haunting! It was so exciting from start to finish, I didn't want to put it down! It was both mysterious and nerve racking at the same time! I couldn't wait to learn what was going to happen next! Even though I had nightmares during the time I was reading this book, I can't wait to read more hauntings from A.H.
