    Review of THE SPIRIT BOX
    by Lee Isserow
    (THE FREELANCERS #1)
Immediately I was totally engrossed in this story, and am eagerly anticipating the next in this new series. Author Lee Isserow has quite the imagination, and here he successfully balances magic and mundaneity, weaving them together in such a way that opening a door to another country seems natural, as does demolecularizing oneself to pass through walls and fences. I readily suspended any disbelief and threw myself into the story line. Magickian Rafe Carter, the scion of a line of strong magickians, is himselfânot quite. He's feckless, determined, knowledgeableâbut life just keeps throwing him wrenches in the works, tripping him up, no matter how determined and dedicated is he.
The twists are sharp and unexpected, the characters are truly delightful. This story is definitely a winner in my estimation.
The author generously provided a digital ARC at no cost, for review purposes. This is my fair and impartial review.
    Magical Blood will reveal itself
Down on his heels freelance sort of magician works a job and meets a girl with magic lineage and no knowledge of it. They form a partnership while fighting an evil creature that kills people. If you liked the Magicians or Harry Potter you will enjoy this story.
    Sheer Brilliance
Amazing! Taking something as innocent and inconspicuous as a wine box and have it filled with evil. I'm absolutly delighted when it was not even something Pan-ish, but something devlishly wild, unforgiving and surprising. It takes a stroke of genious in the Author to come up with such an original and mesmerizing tale. Vividly and fully developed characters and surroundings displayed in a story that is bulletproof and fast paced and brings the reader on a magical thrill-ride like nothing I've read before. I'm awestruck and greatly impressed with the level of skill shown by this creator of tales. This was the very first book I've read from this author but it will most definitely not be the last! And the story oh my I could not put down the book. It is Outstanding, and definitly one of the best books I've read in quite a while!
What makes it so outstanding.. I strongly suggest you read it and find out, you wont be sorry.

    Perfect Voice for Darby
I already read Omission, and Sarah Rogers is the perfect voice for Darby.
The Darby Shaw Chronicles is one of my favorite detective series. If you're a fan of Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden series, you'll love Darby Shaw. She's a superhero detective who can revive murder victims when she touches the murderer and their victim.
Sarah provides the perfect voice for Darby as well as voicing her partner, Mark in a natural way. She does a fantastic job of providing distinct voices for each character including Southern, British, etc. accents for minor characters.
This series just keeps getting better!
I couldn't wait to get a hold of Omission, and it didn't disappoint! I love how Darby's power and her relationship with Mark get more complex in every book. The mystery of the bizarre murder case and the strange pull of the new man in Darby's life kept me on the edge of my seat, and of course most of all I couldn't wait to see what would happen with Darby and Mark :) The narration was really well done, and I was seriously so drawn in that it became problematic because I had trouble taking out my headphones and returning to real life. While the ending of this book was very satisfying, I already can't wait for the next one!

** I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review **
I have listened to many many many of this authors books and have really loved them, until this one..It just didn't do it for me...I was excited by the title and subject matter...but it was really 3rd person..and I am normally ok with it, even if it isn't my fave writing style...and it never really took off for me...Ymmv...I still love this author though!!!
highly recommended if you enjoy action, banter
This is the first book in the four-books Olento Research series by Sarah Noffke. Although set in the same world of dream travelers as Noffke's other series and featuring several well-known characters from other books, it works perfectly well even if you are not familiar with Noffke's previous works, as plenty of history is provided. However, if you've listened to/read at least the Ren series in the past, you may feel a greater connection to the story right from the start.
Ren's daughter, Adelaide, is one of the protagonists who needs to find twelve men who were abducted and genetically modified by a scrupulous corporation to be part wolf, part human. Snarky Adelaide is teamed up with sassy FBI agent Rox. Two assertive, abrasive women make for plenty of banter back and forth, as Adelaide thoroughly loathes Rox. The storyline is intriguing and nothing like the usual werewolves' sagas. As it is the first in a new series, it isn't terribly fast-paced as characters are introduced and background is provided, making sure all the characters are fully fleshed out. But there were still plenty of suspenseful as well as very emotional moments. The male characters were really interesting, too, but the limelight was definitely stolen by Adelaide and Rox. The story certainly kept my attention throughout and I can't wait to find out where this story will be heading in book 2, Lone Wolf.
Elizabeth Klett narrates the story in a nice pace and with a pleasant, clear tone that is easy to listen to. Using a wide variety of accents and easily distinguishable voices she covers a large number of characters effortlessly and really brings the story to life.

Ten Characters in Search of a Confrontation with the Villain
I picked this up on a whim, in part because of fond memories of Darren McGavin's Kolchak the Night Stalker series. As Kolchak is prominently mentioned at the top of the back blurb, one would expect him to be central to the book -- and one would be wrong. He is there, as part of a huge cast of characters, some from historical pulp radio plays and stories, others of the authors' invention.
The huge cast works against the book, as there is not much space to establish each character, give each a distinctive voice, and give ach something to do. The characters do get important roles, but the action shifts so often it is hard to care about any of them. Worse, it shifts in tone -- the back blurb makes it clear this will be a supernatural adventure -- and about a third of it takes place in a dream dimension -- which makes the shifts from relatively realistic two-fisted action to mystical combat somewhat jarring. I am somewhat familiar with Kolchak, and do not get a feeling that the authors' captured McGavin's performance. I would be interested to see what reviewers think of the adaptations of other established characters.
Worst, the climactic scene in which our heros and an ally confront the villain -- the point the whole book has been building to -- takes place off screen and is described in retrospect by the survivors over dinner. It is as if one sat thru the Lord of the Rings, only to have the scenes at Mount Doom and the Black Gate skipped on screen, and to be explained by Frodo and Sam to Rose over a mug of ale. Several of the characters, including Kolchak, are absent for the big confrontation. Those that face their own dilemna have it also end anti-climatically, as the villain's demise removes his minion's motivations.
    Not recommended.
    Partners in Excellence!
CJ Henderson is one hell of a writer. His fiction is crisp, hardboiled, and compelling. Joe Gentile is no slouch either...
As the book promo says "The Past meets the Future to defeat an unspeakable evil!". That sums it up in one terse sentence that should be screamed from posters and movie theatres around the world. The closing days of WWII thrwarted a plan to end the war through sorcery, and failed yet it opened a door to something more.
It's up to Kolchak, Boston Blackie, Johnny Dollar, Lai Chan, Candy Matson, Pat Novak, Blackshirt, Mr Keen, and of course, Jack Hagee.
The result is a book that no action adventure fan should be without.

    Another enjoyable read
Book 2 in the Servitude series is just as good as the first, more so even because all our favorite characters are back, and it feels as if we've walked their journey with them. It's only a week after book 1 ends, and Bobby is struggling with his new role. On top of that, his first mission is to rescue his estranged mother. That's not an easy task for him emotionally. The story moves along well, giving us those occasions where we hold our breath, and ends with an opening for book 3. Paul J. McSorley give another outstanding performance with well-produced audio. Well-done.
    Spectacular
A great follow up to the first book. With how this book ended I'm excited for the third book to come out. The narrator did Ana amazing job. He embodied each character well, and I hope he does the third book as well.
    Wonderful intricacies and suspense.

There is something so inviting about the power that is involved with black magic - whether you are able to do it yourself, or if you merely read about others who have engaged in it. It doesn't matter how old you are or what your beliefs are, there is something captivating about being able to speak with demons and control things through spells.

I couldn't stop until the end and was so engrossed in the book that I hadn't realized IO was at the end and was disappointed that it was over and I have to wait for the nexxt one to come out!
D.N. Leo is an excellent writer, I've read most of her books and have not been disappointed in any she has written.
A well- written wild thrill of an adventure
I've read several of the series that DN Leo has published and they've all been superb. I frankly don't know how she does it, but it's already clear from Light of Demon that her Bloodstone Trilogy will be another perfect example of this. Once again she has created wonderful lead and supporting characters (and here, the lead character Alyna is just the kind of kick-a** heroine I adore), and then placed them into a plot that is a well- written wild thrill of an adventure. I'm not going to give away anything about this book as I don't want to spoil anything, but I rarely give out five stars and I'm doing that here. Hopefully that's enough to tell you just how good I found this book to be and why I definitely am happy to say it's highly recommended.
Oh yes, for those who regularly read DN Leo's books, make sure you don't miss the fun bonuses after the end of this book.

Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Supernatural & Paranormal
    Publisher's Summary:
In this pulse-pounding novella, Amazon best-selling author Layton Green crafts another chilling, atmospheric entry in what critics have called "the most original series in years."
Is it murder from beyond the grave...or the final ruse of a twisted serial killer?
Three years ago, a deranged murderer dubbed the Halloween Killer butchered half a dozen people in New Orleans. He was caught and sentenced to die. Just before his execution, the Halloween Killer vowed to take revenge on the district attorney who put him behind bars.
Less than a week after the lethal injection, Sebastian Gichaud, a wealthy playboy grieving over the death of his mother, throws on a black cloak and hacks the prosecutor to death with a giant scythe. Not only did Sebastian appear to be fulfilling the serial killer's last wish - he claimed that he was the Halloween Killer.
Now, as the anniversary of the grisly murder approaches, Sebastian is facing trial. No one will touch the case. In a desperate attempt to save his son, Sebastian's father hires Viktor Radek, professor of religious phenomenology, to investigate.
If Sebastian is guilty, Viktor wonders, then why are he and his associate Dominic Grey being warned off the case? And why did the Halloween Killer visit a series of reincarnation experts before his death?
None of Professor Radek's doubts might matter, because he and Grey face the impossible task of convincing an Orleans Parish jury that Sebastian Gichaud is either a prisoner in his own mind - or possessed by the spirit of the Halloween Killer.
(Note to fans of the Dominic Grey series: The Reaper's Game is a standalone novella that takes place earlier in time than The Shadow Cartel.)

#5 in the series but a first for me!
When starting a series during a mid-point there are a couple of questions that can naturally arise.
    1. Was I able to understand who the main players were quickly or did I feel lost?
In this case, I got interested in the main characters of Grey and Victor quickly and became intrigued by them. I never felt lost while listening but did feel like I might appreciate the story more if I went back.
    2. After reading this do I want to go back and read the books that came before?
Yes, I do want to go back and listen to the other books in the series which speaks to the ability of this one to hold my interest. It was a fairly quick listen and I was never really sure of where the plot resolution would come from.
Whenever I have had a chance to hear Peter Berkrot's narration, I have always enjoyed it and this was no exception. Character dialog was easy to follow because I could easily identify the unique voice he gave to each speaking part. When it comes to tone, I think he does menacing and sinister really well which fits well with the subject matter.
Lastly, I feel it only fair to note that I was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
A fast paced thriller with paranormal elements
Sebastian Gichaud is in jail for killing the New Orleans DA with a scythee and dressed as Death. The murder reminded the public of the ones perpetrated by the Halloween Killer, sentenced to death some time before. The most notable thing is that delicate and sensible Sebastian seemed a completely different person from what he used to be, and he himself proclaimed to be the original Halloween Killer.

    Best of the Three
    Any additional comments?
"Holiday for the Hostile" was my favorite of this three part series. This story dealt not only in the paranormal with Tile X (as in the first book) but also dabbled in the horrors committed by man. More of a cross between a paranormal horror and a murder mystery, this tale was enjoyable on multiple levels. The narration was leaps and bounds better than the first story in the series, but like the first story, this one sort of just drops off at the end. When I read a book, I appreciate the courtesy of an actual ending! I wouldn't recommend reading this book unless you've already read book one and intend on reading book three!
I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.
    Nice one !
It's a great audiobook !Narration is quite clear ! but it's not a standalone ! one should must have gone through part 1 of this book to understand this one ! I really loved this one and was able to complete in just 2 seating's !
    An interesting, genre-splitting story
I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
I was happy to find that the first portion of the book catches you up on what you missed if you didn't read/listen to book one. I think I might have been annoyed, though, if I HAD, as it spent a good amount of time on this. As I said, for me, this was a positive. The story is definitely not one that lands in a single genre. It is part horror, part thriller, part paranormal... Also, I really like authors that are snarky and aren't afraid to have fun with their worlds. The tongue-in-cheek style was enjoyable for me. I enjoyed this book quite a lot and will look for more in the future because I found myself bummed it was over.
    Book 2
    Any additional comments?
The first part of the book are a reminder of what happened in book one the hostile You can catch up from here in book two the fun starts when serena and family set off on holiday to Ireland having regained her sight and found tile x under her brothers bed it's not long before tile x starts following orders and causing yet more blood thirsty killings
    A good book.
An interesting story, but has places that for me were hard to get through. The narration was good also. I received this audio book for free and voluntarily reviewed.

    Awful.
I bought this book thinking it would be a simple breezy paranormal romantic read. I could not finish listening to the book because the narrator was completely awful. The different voices she attempted to do failed and you had the impression that she was rushing through this project. She did a disservice to the storyline.
    terrible
I believe the story would have been better if the narrator wasn't so bad. she is not a good performer. it sounded like a kid in grade school reading. I am so Disappointed
