A Disappointment

Katie had to change her name to Sarah when her father decided to join his friend in the Amish community. Sheâs bitter about her motherâs murder and her fatherâs former drunkenness. However, life with the Amish doesnât turn out to be as bad as she expected, and John is especially interesting.

Since this is double spaced, it turned out to be little more than a short story. I also got the feeling the author didnât know much about the Amish except what sheâd researched from books and online. Many of the attitudes and theology expressed in the book didnât seem Amish at all. The writing was often stilted and amateurish., and other things just didnât add up. For example, John took Sarah for a walk in the woods in the middle of the night. Sarah thought about how dark it was, but nothing was mentioned about a light source, and they had to jump rocks 10 - 15 feet apart in the dark to get across the river. Then there was the courting by bundling. This is an old colonial practice that has long died out. If a few of the Amish communities do still practice it, they wouldnât do it in August. It was done in the winter when the rooms were too cold in the evening to court in, and the couple would be bundled in covers with the board between them on the bed. Overall, this story was a disappointment and filled with too much chatter that didnât move the story forward. Even the ending was dull and lifeless.

Not recommended

This book kept referring to the mother's death but you never knew why she died. It is poorly written. It sounds like you are listening to a child tell their day's activities for a few days in a row. No meat to the story. No depth. The editing was fairly well done, but the story itself was a great disappointment. To make all this worse, the book just ends with no real ending. It also talks about bundling, which I strongly doubt happens anymore, at least not the way the author depicts it and after only knowing one another for less than a week. I was truly disappointed that I had wasted my time. I rarely write reviews with this much negativity, but the only ones that may enjoy this book are young and pre teens but no ending even makes me doubt that.

Abrupt but sweet

This was a quick and easy read. I would have loved to see more about it, or maybe more details in the story. It ended to abruptly for me. I don't enjoy when the timing is way too quick and unrealistic. Maybe in a follow-up story or a rewrite, the author might give thought to it. However, say that, it was an enjoyable read.

Skip This Book

I really am sorry that I spent $.99 for this book. The writing is stilted, some of the supposed Amish customs questionable, and the characters and story were lacking details and depth that should have been there.

Sorry, this is not Amish

This is fairly well written but sadly the writer has apparently decided to use an Amish title to get readers. Another problem I see is that a human that gets kicked repeatedly and shows no marks or obvious limping, hunched body etc. isn't feasible in the story. I'm an avid reader and have read many Amish books. They don't have a church building. The author's writing has potential if she'd believe in herself and write about something she knows!

It leaves you guessing. Great book really gets you into it. Then bam. it's the end. Would love to read more from this author.

Incomplete

The story was good but had an incomplete ending. Lots of unanswered questions. I don't think the story was well thought out because it just ended with no real ending. It's like the author just...quit writing.

I enjoyed reading this book " Tainted Spring: An Amish Romance". To me, this book is not a typical Amish Romance and I loved it. I'm so intrigued by this more and hope there are more books.

I wouldn't say it is a story I would say it is the beginning of one. I wish there was more to it. I would have liked to read more about the characters and see what developed. It was kind of weird for the ending to be the characters kissing and boom it's over. What happens next? Too much is left to my imagination. Why write just the beginning of someone's story?

Needs work

This book is full of grammatical and spelling errors it was hard to read. The author used too many dashes and they weren't used correctly.I was very disappointed in the the whole story line. In this day and age, what smart, intelligent woman would kiss a man she has only known for a few hours. I'm all for giving a person a second. third. fourth... chance, but not after knowing someone for less a day. I consider this book not on the reading list for my young daughter.

A Good Read...

I was surprised that I really enjoyed this audio book...it kept you interested from beginning to end. Never read anything from this author before. This book I would recommend and the audio eas fabulous!

The suspense continues

Josh and Jenna continue to evade whoever wants her dead. I love how Willow Summers has evolved Josh to the point he is going after what he wants, namely Jenna. The only problem, Jenna is running as fast as she can from committing. Samara Naeymi delivers this story with aplomb.

Great addition to series, yet standalone listen

I love the writing style of Willow Summers and really enjoyed listening to this book. I selected to listen to this book after the 3rd in series (Unexpected Guardian) was released. I felt the first book ended in a cliffhanger, while this one did not. The next in the series should tie up the loose ends. This book is full of suspense, action, romance, some humor and unexpected twists. I really thought that Samara Naeymi did a great performance with the various characters and their voices. My review is not a synopsis of the book, but rather my opinion of it. I try not to give away spoilers either. I really am looking forward to learning what happens next.

An exciting continuation in the Skyline Trilogy.

I would definitely recommend this audiobook IF you've read/listened to the first in the series. Samara Naeymi helps bring the book to life. There's suspense, drama, humor, heartbreak, and some sexy scenes.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Unexpected Danger?

When the girls are hiding in the bush facing down the barrel of a gun...

What does Samara Naeymi bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

Samara Naeymi uses different voices for all the characters, good use of inflection, and pacing to help bring the story to life and make it more exciting.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Jenna is fighting her true feelings and leaves to go back to NY.

I've read this series and enjoyed listening to it as much as I did reading it.

Really Good Story, It Just Keeps Getting Better

Wow, what a great story so much action and suspense. This is the second book of a trilogy which I listened to 6 months after listening to book one, Unexpected Hero, which I really enjoyed so when I started this book it had to do two things:-

Firstly, it had to build on the world Willow Summers had already created for me. I wanted to know more about Josh and Jenna and Jaxs too! But I also wanted a HEA for Josh, who I have to say I'm a little in love with, and Jenna who I liked a little more in this book but that's because I know more about her past now.

Tillie Cole Does It Again!

Riot is Dark! Intense! Riveting! Suspenseful! Shocking! But will hook the listener from the very first chapter. I was totally mesmerized by the characters and their story.....I loved it.......it's impossible for me to choose a favorite, and I'm soooo sad this series is ending.

One thing that really separates Cole's Scarred Souls series apart from other dark romances stories are her hero's. They aren't your typical bad boys, dominant alphas or even sexy billionaires with dark fantasies, these characters have been through hell, lived in hell, survived, and are scarred inside and out. They've either been kidnapped, sold, or betrayed into living an existence where they were forced to fight to the death. They were robbed of their humanity, given a number, and had to comply with their master's wishes or face severe punishment. In this underground world, only the strong survived, there was no room for weakness, or anything the masters could use against the fighters......especially love. Cole really outdid herself with this one! Riot was both brutal, and beautiful, and these characters will stay with me for a long time. I rarely re-listened to audios, but this is another series, I could easily listen too again!

Amelie and Guy delivered an outstanding performance. Riot's dark, with brutal and intense scenes, but they were perfectly narrated. This duo did an excellent job placing the right amount of emphasis on all the different emotions and tones.

Between the amazing story, and great narration, I was glued to my headphones, and if I didn't have to pay bills, I would have listened non-stop. BUT BE WARNED, Riot isn't for the faint of heart, there are triggers and some scenes may be too difficult for some to listen to, but if you like dark romances, then you will want to consider this series. (Best if listened to in order.) Well worth the time, credit or sale!

The End... Say It Isn't So!

From the very first book in this series, I've been addicted - especially to the audio versions with their drop-dead sexy accents that place readers right in the middle of the action. These narrators were perfect for this Russian Bratva series.

There is everything a reader could want in a dark romance... the intrigue, the suspense, the drama, the romance, and at last - the victory! And in this book, readers get the grand finale of victories. It's cheer inducing! You must, must, must listen to this series in order. It's absolutely the only way to get the full effect.
