Publisher's Summary:

"Dwellers in the Hills" is a detective novel by Melville Davisson Post.

Excerpt from the book: We were a mile down the long hill, thundering like a drove of mad steers, when I caught through the tree-tops a glimpse of Cynthia's cart, and wrenched the bit out of El Mahdi's teeth. He was not inclined to stop, and plunged, ploughing long furrows in the clay road. But a stiff steel bit is an unpleasant thing with which to take issue, and he finally stopped, sliding on his front feet. We turned the corner in a slow, deliberate trot, and there, as calmly as though it were the most natural thing in the world, was Cynthia, sitting as straight as a sapling on the high seat, with the reins held close in her left hand, and beside her Woodford, and jogging along before the cart was the bald-faced cattle-horse.

Great read! A tale of boyish adventure and a journey to manhood. The author manages to weave a tale of horses, cattle and men, interspersed with myth, philosophy, and Biblical allegory. Deception, a touch of romance, and heroics round out this story. There is nothing of great depth here, but the adventure slowly builds until you're hooked. At least I was. A great change of pace from the modern!

Suspenseful

Great mystery that keeps your attention until the end. Its impossible to stop listening until youre finished. Easy to listen and understand. Another great in this series.

The right note

I enjoyed this book, there were so many suspects that I didn't guess who the killer was, not that the victim was a bad guy but when the murder happens at a party for musicians and politicians the suspects pool is huge and with no motive the case seems impossible.

The nice thing about this story was the p.i worked hand in hand with the police and there was no competition or grand standing as to who was top dog and running the case, and with a fun supporting cast to help from assistants, to aunts it was a nice easy listen.

The narrator was very good and used a variety of tones to portray the characters.

A nice story to read

New Author for me, found the book very entertaining, though I would have enjoyed knowing what the reason was that she had to leave New York.

Good

the murders that happened in this small town had so many different reasons for them being murdered.it is a surprise ending.

Baking Up Murder (An Olivia Quinn Mystery)...

Baking Up Murder (An Olivia Quinn Mystery)...is about Olivia Quinn and her friend who have a farm that makes and delivers cheeses to local businesses. Olivia had moved back to Lenox, MA from Boston after some incident that the reader isn't let in on. Her friend Juliet owns the bakery in town to which she delivers cheeses to, but the downside of that is the one employee named Pierre. Olivia finds his flirting to be irritating and wants no part of him. Her friend Juliet though, works well with him, like herself and her friend Simon. Simon does the deliveries and she makes the cheeses etc. The story has Olivia and Juliet spending an evening together catching up with each other and what's going on around the town. But the reunion was to be short lived. Pierre calls Olivia the next morning to say that Juliet is dead. To top it all off, Pierre asks Olivia to come down and put aside their differences and help him with the office work while he does the baking. When Olivia arrives at the bakery, she sees that Pierre is being arrested for the death of her friend Juliet. She can't believe this and tells Detective Peller who's in charge of the case, he's arresting the wrong person. Of course, the detective doesn't believe her and arrests Pierre anyway. This makes Olivia start snooping around to find the real killer. Detective Peller warns Olivia to stay out of this or he'll arrest her for interference. Olivia doesn't give up though and between what she knows and what the detective know, the case is solved. There's the usual putting the main character in danger plot line, but the story is fast paced, short, and has the reader guessing until the end of who actually killed Juliet. An excellent read.

Good book

I had enjoyed this book. please continue to write more. I enjoyed reading about the story plot and the characters.

A body in the wall

Bree Milford has tried unsuccessfully to get a career in Hollywood, so she goes to mind her parents Ocean View Bed & Breakfast in Danger Cove, Washington in Killer Closet Case by Elizabeth Ashby and T. Sue Versteeg. Taking off for a Bon Jovi concert in San Diego, Brees parents leave Bree in charge, along with her supermodel best friend, Cristal, who has had to escape Hollywood due to a big tabloid scandal. Noticing how tiny the closet in their bedroom is, the women ask the gorgeous Scottish handyman, Mal, to examine if there is room for him to enlarge it. But when he opens up the back wall of the closet, a mummified body wrapped in plastic falls out and onto Bree!

The police of course want to talk to Brees parents, who have spent their many years of marriage moving throughout the country every few years and who bought and renovated the B&B two years earlier. But true to their free nature, they do not have their cell phones on, making them look suspicious. Brees brother, Bradley, in his last year of law school, comes to help them, especially as the police find a second body wrapped in similar plastic, and their dad becomes the chief suspect.

This book is the sixth book in the Danger Cove B&B Mystery series, but it was my first book in the series, yet I did not feel any confusion about starting it so far into the series. I enjoyed the story and found it pleasurable light reading. The growing chemistry between Bree and Mal comes across very believably, and I found myself rooting for them to find happiness together. The characters do not really have much depth to them; this book seems to be less concerned about making them full than in creating a gentle mystery to make readers smile while still relaxing.

Pamela Lorence performs the audio version of this book and has a great voice for reading the first person narration of Bree. She does a great Scottish accent for the character of Mal and speaks expressively as she reads the whole book. Lorence has a gentle way of speaking that adds to the flavor of the book as a gentle cozy mystery.

Killer Closet Case was an enjoyable read.
