Wrecked Em Hell! Almost Killed Em!

Would you consider the audio edition of Checkmate to be better than the print version?

I haven't yet read the Kindle version. This is a favorite series, so I plan to read all of the series.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Harry Starke. He's the main character and in the middle of the action.

What about Tom Lennons performance did you like?

The voice acting almost lets you become an actual player in the story! Excellent pacing, good clear voice!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Very much Entertained! I do get a bit choked up when the audio book gets near the end. LOL

If you enjoy action, mystery, Noir then this a good series. All the Harry Starke books are "stand alone". I would recommend reading / listening in order, but that's your perogative.

Nothing is as it seems!

Light, fun read. Enjoyable story. Especially loved the heroine! She is brash, and a bit crazy ...accepts everything with a laissez faire attitude. Looking forward to reading the. next one.

Could be better

First I thought it should be longer. I liked the story but it was missing info and details, such as fight scenes. I also didn't care for the reader. She sounded flat. I will keep an eye on this writer though.

underwhelming

I just couldn't seem to get as involved in this one as I had expected to. It didn't seem terribly coherent, and ambled along without really getting anywhere. But I got it on the cheap as Whispersync, so it's all good.

Potential not achieved

The story is really unique but execution was terrible. The narrator's voice was monotone through out the complete story. I was only half listening. For much of the short story people are getting acquainted or I though they were.

At some point Jazz is recounting her experiences and I discovered she was kidnapped twice. I could not tell from the narrator's tone.

There is an interesting werewolf angle which is unique but is underdeveloped and it is directly tired into the reaper angle.

I don't know what others have read because the other reviews were really good. That is why I tried this out.

Beware. If your credits are dear to you pass on this one.

I want more!!!!

This is a fun easy listen that sucked me right in! Can't wait for the next two in the series to come out on audible!

Harry Just Gets Better! Fab Narrator

Poor Harry, talk about be caught in suspicious circumstances, how could he have foreseen that a phone call from someone he hadn't seen in years would land him in such a precarious situation? There he is, in the house of his long ago friend Tom, problem is, Tom is very dead, along come the police and the tale begins.

Lieutenant Kate Gazzara and Harry Starke are old friends, well, they were once, in fact for years they were very close until a certain incident involving another woman put paid to that. However, Kate and Harry continue to occasionally work together. Harry, an ex police officer now works as a private investigator, Kate takes advantage of the fact that Harry can do things that she, as an officer of the law, would get fired for if she were to do them. Maybe not ethical, but their system works, and Kate is usually there to help extricate Harry from the troubles arising from his methods.

Harry needs all his wiley ways to solve this one, it's a real humdinger of a twisty tale and I reckon the most experienced of armchair sleuths would be hard put to solve this one. For a start, there are just so many possible suspects, but slowly Harry and his team whittle them down until they get to the bottom of it. Have to say, it's a really interesting outcome!

I'm not sure why I like Harry so much, he's like the iron fist in a kid glove, smooth, suave and polished, but underneath it all he really is as hard as nails. He can say the most dreadful things yet make them sound like a compliment, he doesn't hold back on dishing out the physical punishment either, and because he seems such a charming character, the violence does come as a bit of a shock.

Harry loves women, he does seem a little weak in the presence of a beautiful female, he just knows he ought to say no but, somehow, talks himself into doing just the opposite.

This book, like the first, is full of interesting characters and their personalities are well written making the reader feel involved with them, they stay in your head long after the story has finished. This was a great read.

Narrator

There could not be a more perfect narrator for Harry Starke than Tom Lennon, I can't fault his performance. He captures Harrys charm, yet when Harry is at his most thuggish and threatening, Tom makes these threats sound like a verbal caress, cleverly insinuating that there is a deeper and more frightening aspect to Harrys character.

Would you consider the audio edition of Unbreakable Bonds An Angela Panther Mystery to be better than the print version?

I have only listened to the audio version. In general, I prefer audio because i get to listen while using my eyes and hands for other things than reading.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Unbreakable Bonds An Angela Panther Mystery?

Well the best moments are all spoilers. Suffice it to say, you'll know the best "best moment" when you hear it :)

What about Kathy Poelkers performance did you like?

As always, Kathy does more than just read the words on the page. She considers who is speaking, how that character is feeling and what's going on around them. This causes all the dialogues to have a true ring of authenticity!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Angela's back, but everything is different!

Any additional comments?

Can wait for the next audio book with Angela. The creative duo of Carolyn and Kathy is thoroughly engaging! My only ask for next time is more action, faster!! More ghosts, more mysteries solved, more Mel! Maybe a little less Emily, unless she matures a bit ::wink::. Seriously though, publish soon!!

Excellent

Good story line. The narrator did a good job using different voices for the various characters. The stories of the separate characters were tied together well and held the reader's interest.

Even better than the first!

I had a hard time getting into the first book, but then I really liked it. This one even more so, and I was into the story fully in only a couple of chapters. The gift she shares with the family/friends of the deceased loved ones really brings me joy. I hope there are people who can do this.

Another winner with the Garcia Sisters

I am such a fan of Ms. Lipperman. Jordan McAllister was my first series, and while I do enjoy it, I really enjoy the Garcia Sisters and that series. I am the oldest of six children, four girls, and the love, teasing, and genuine interest in parts of life you may not wish to share, are all part of a close knit family. The sisters also have that wonderful bond. The storyline is well done, and characters are interesting and impact. And who can not enjoy the irreverent humour in the ghostly sister, Tessa. While this may be a bit richer in language and romantic entanglements than the normal cozy, this book is not anything you wouldn't see or hear on television. It's a pure delight, and a book I have recommended too several friends. While the book can stand alone, I would definitely recommend this series be read in other. It's so well designed a reader would not miss anything if this was the first book to read, but the subtle mentions of activities in the earlier books would be lost. I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Getting Tired of Bad Grammar and Unedited Books

Clearly not edited. Not only were there egregious grammatical mistakes early on, but at one point a key character's name was given inconsistently. Spellings are often laughable. Morris code? Carmel Macchiato? Really? I can't even begin to address the more substantive plot issues that needed to be resolved. And I actually liked the earlier books. This level of carelessness is just insulting to the reader.

Great book!

Another favorite! This series is about the author's sisters and how their bond always gets stronger, and the trouble they get into gets worse. Luckily they have a sister "on the other side" that helps them solve the mysteries and get them out of trouble!

Always a fun and a fast read!

Mission To Kill was a fun and fast read! As all of Liz's books are, I can just visualize everything going on as it's happening! I always want them to last longer! I loved it! Just like I love her!

Another fun read!

I love the banter between the Garcia Girls, they always makes me laugh! I look forward to seeing where Tessa goes from here.
