Would you listen to Gone again? Why?

Yes, I'm a fan of the Harry Starke series. The plot is just a bit different. The case needs the skills of Harry Starke to solve. And Blair Howard writes a "mean" thriller. Another reason? The Narrator, Tom Lennon.

What did you like best about this story?

Of course, it starts as a murder. Investigating turns up several suspected scenerios. The investigations by the main character and supporting cast keep you hooked.

Have you listened to any of Tom Lennons other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I have and this audio book continues with the same high quality. Good pacing, listenable. Sean Connery IS James Bond. Tom Lennon IS Harry Starke.

Another good Harry Starke

Here we go again. Same location, same cast of characters (even some of the the bad guys have ties to an earlier book), same narrator (he is Harry to me).

The plot delves into some really nasty criminal activity preying on young girls yet somehow manages to give a respectful laugh or two. Never belittles the crime itself. That's the Harry we all know and love, right? Eye on the ball, gun on the hip, and one liner always on the lips. Howard manages to write dead serious dialogue about some very dark topics that isn't depressing.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it and these books are definitely not broke. The formula works - Count me in for the next one as well. Same time, same place, same station.

Another Awesome Story!

Blair Howard and Tom Lennon are both very talented. I love how each book is a standalone, yet is consistent in details. The twists and turns are wonderful. In this particular book I really thought the narrator did a fantastic job conveying the grief over Emily. My review is not a synopsis of the book, but rather my opinion of it. The Profiler

This was my first Chris Taylor book but definitely not my last. There was plenty of action, drama, suspense and romance. Narration by Aiden Snow was perfect as always. His deep sexy voice adds the perfect touch to this already great book. HEA and no cliffhanger.

I just cant get into this book DNF after 3 hours.

Hmmm. Sad to say I just couldn't get into this book. It was just boring and seemed all over the place to me. I listened for 3 hours and I give up. Sorry, this is not a very helpful review. Just not for me I guess.

As for the narration, he does a well enough job. Not the worst, not the best either.

This was a free book on amazon and 1.99 listen. Oh well.

Not quite 4 stars for the story..

This was a pretty good mystery. I liked Clayton and Ellie BUT I thought it was rather stupid that she didnt want anyone to know about the death of her son. AND, like soooo many other stories, he wasnt ready to let go of the wife that committed suicide 3 years ago. He kept telling himself, like soooo many others that he couldnt feel anything for Ellie because he still loved his dead wife, maybe. Really? Havent authors written that to death?

Anyway, I liked this book, and I liked the sexual attraction that went on between Clayton and Ellie. They were trying to solve the murders and trying also to keep their minds off each other all the time.

That said, I didnt like the prologue at all. When it involves an adult being mean and hateful to a kid, and you just know hes going to get a beating, I cant wait to finish reading that part. Yeah, and I want that adult dead, I admit it. And, of course, you knew that the abused kid was the serial killer. And what he did to those women was just horrible and gross. BUT, I could put up with all that if the book is well written. What I cant put up with is when the author tries to make the story like real life and throws in disgusting stuff. I dont know how many heroines Ive read about that had gotten taken by the bad guy and she suffered with cuts and bruises and a broken bone or two, BUT I have never read about a heroine tied to a table and actually PEED on herself and the bad guy screeched at her about it.

Reverend Paltoquet's close friend, Dorothy Plunkett, is that medium. He calls on her to help these spirits to their final rest, and this is when we learn the truth behind the murders. And the real perpetrator of the crimes.

switching from one period of time to the other was a bit of a turn off at first but as the story progressed it got better. over all it's a great novel, well written, couldn't let go of the book at times. looking forward to the next book.

A bit of a slow start, but then picked up and piqued my interest more.

Great book to curl up with in front of a fire ;-)

This is a terrific read with a great ending. When Jerry Bracegirdle buys the dilapidated 57 Bockhampton Road property he finds he's got more than just home repair problems. People have been murdered in this house and it seems to be infested with an evil that dates back to a triple murder in 1896. Jerry will find the truth with the help of the Reverend Bernard Paltoquet, Dr Robbie MacTavish, and medium Dorothy Plunkett (along with a helpful cabdriver named Omar Kemal). The author does a wonderful job of telling the stories from 1896, 1952, 1966 and other significant years interwoven with Jerry's story set in 2008.

Up a trellis 3 floors from the ground

Another excellent mystery headlining Miranda Vaughn!

She works for the lawyer who saved her from a wrongful fraud charge and who now is personally involved with her aunt. A new case comes in where her expertise is needed. She meets some real high fliers, does a spot or two of questionable entry, faces the same FBI agent, has her car involved in an explosion, and gets shot at. But there's lots more, and enough plot twists to make your head spin! Reading the first book is not a necessity, but another totally enjoyable work.

I requested and received a free audio copy of this one because I had really enjoyed Chasing the Dollar last year.

Teri Schnaubelt performed both of them, and was awesome!

Temporary headline

Miranda has learned that "not guilty" is not the same as "innocent" in the mind of the public. She's now working for her defense attorney, who is now also her mother's lover. (Awkward.) And she's protecting a corporate CFO who claims her boss may be doing something illegal with the books.

The mystery is interesting. Miranda is likeable. There are twists and turns to keep you guessing. And maybe there's the potential of a little romance, although the FBI agent who's investigating the CFO's allegations is giving decidedly mixed signals.

I enjoyed this and will listen again. I recommend it.

Superbly entertaining and marvellously performed. The book held my attention for the entire time.

What does Teri Schnaubelt bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

I really loved the narration of this book. The narrator puts a lot of effort into performing the characters which she does very well but she also has the great skill of knowing how to tell a story which is completely different to merely reading the words out loud from the page.

A modern mystery for Golden Age fans

I've really enjoyed David Colacci's excellent readings of the most recent Jane Haddam mysteries and I squeaked with joy when I saw they are starting to release the back catalog on Audible too. Colacci has such a nice deep voice, soothing yet expressive, and I love Jane Haddam's mysteries, they follow the pattern of the Golden Age (a logical mystery, fair clues, interesting characters) but they are set in modern America. Each of Haddam's books is framed by Gregor Demarkian and the crew from Cavanaugh Street, but dives deep into a different aspect of Amercan society. The first dozen or so myseries in the series also showcase a different holiday ( the series title was originally the Gregor Demarkian Holiday Mysteries, but I think she dropped the holiday aspect when she changed publishers, anyway, it disappears about halfway through the series). Ths time, the holiday is July the Fourth and the aspect of American society being plumbed is the political sausage factory, with lobbyists, political operatives and a Senator who is being groomed for the presidency gathering at the lavish Oyster Bay home of a Hollywood legend. It's really good fun.

Food, wine and travel guide incorporated in an enjoyable mystery in European wine country

Le French Book has favored the English language readers with yet another mystery translated from the French by Sally Pane. Authors Jean-Pierre Alaux and Noel Balen are Frenchmen who are passionate about dining, wine and a good mystery. They developed the concept for a mystery series featuring a thoughtful wine connoisseur who can always ferret out the resolution of the myriad mysteries that come up in the grape-growing countries of Europe.

Tainted Tokay incorporates two mysteries (three if one counts the crisis in the vineyards of Chateau Blanchard,) which demand resolution in two locations at the same time. Benjamin Cooker has made his reputation as a wine consultant and as author of a best selling guide book on wine. He is invited by his publisher to cruise the Danube, highlighted by a visit to the Tokaji wine making region. But just as he and his wife are prepping to leave, his lab director in Bordeaux is victimized by an unknown mugger and will be out of commission at a particularly busy time in the lab.

But, not to worry, he is told by his right hand man Virgile Lanssien, who assures Benjamin that he can take care of the lab and watch over Alexandrine de La Palussiere as she recuperates.

Interesting light reading

After spending the past 1 1/2 years reading everything I can get my hands on about Lyme disease and tick-borne infections, I thought reading a "fun" Lyme book would be a nice change of pace. It was. I wasn't blown away by the book, but I would certainly recommend it as light reading. I also liked the fact it is a relatively short book so that I didn't spend too much time on it. However, as a Lyme patient, I did find it really weird to have my real life woven into what's not all that fictional of a story.

Important and enjoyable read for everyone

I rarely read fiction. I am bored by mystery "thrillers" because I can always guess the ending. Not this time! Mr. Bradley is one heck of a writer who gave me truth to fill in my real life suspicions about Lyme, an authentic cop's-eye-view of criminal investigation, and (for the first time since Alfred Hitchcock was on TV) a story I couldn't predict. The copy I read was a "loaner" from a friend, but I am here to buy a copy to circulate through my family. Everyone. and especially doctors and their patients suffering with Lyme, needs to know what Mr. Bradley has so skillfully woven into an enjoyable day's read.

A well crafted and funny mystery.

This book had me laughing from start to finish!

Love the back and forth banter between Brandy Borne and her mother Vivian...and the refereeing from the editor. And the tongue in cheek humour Barbara Allan injects throughout.

A well crafted and funny mystery. The first one in the 'Trash 'n' Treasure' mysteries that I have read. And loved it so much, that I have brought Antiques Roadkill.

Romy Nordlinger gives a wonderful narration of this story, that made it a joy to listen to.
