    Publisher's Summary:
From the number one best-selling author Saxon Andrew comes the fourth book in the best-selling Annihilation Series, Tommy's Tale.
The Stars Realm is finally at peace and the Algeans are now allies of the Realm. The Gardner's youngest child, Tommy, has made a quest to free the captured Alfont from the Captors that have held them imprisoned for more than sixty million years. The Captors are hundreds of millions of years more advanced technologically than the Stars Realm Military and nothing in the Realm's arsenal can match their ships, some of which are more than 3,000 miles in diameter. The Captors have annihilated more than a million planets whose starships had the misfortune to stumble into their domain and Tommy is putting the Realm on a collision course with these beings that show no mercy. What the Realm doesn't know is that the Captors are coming no matter what course Tommy decides to follow. The difference maker in the coming conflict could be two Algean adolescents that have started their education. These two will find redemption for all the destroyed worlds their race harvested and perhaps even more than redemption, each other.
The Annihilation Series continues and the action is non-stop as the Stars Realm fights to survive its most dangerous opponent.

Plenty of Reasons Not To Like This Series
Here we are at book four of this series and I have read and enjoyed every one. The trouble is, that I still do not fully understand why. Until recently, the reasons have well resisted rising to the top of my consciousness.
There are plenty of reasons that I could have not liked this series:
    For example:
    - Some of the writing is cliché, syrupy and even goofy ("I love you more than life itself", 'You are close to my heart", "I do not want to live without you").
    - The author seems to confused about the differences between interstellar space and intergalactic space and between scale of the two. In fact, the sense of scale in this story in terms of dimension, speed and raw numbers sometimes gets so implausible that it crosses the border into silly land at times.
    - The "science" in the "science fiction" feels like something out of the old "Buck Rogers" movies or sometimes even more like the old "Twilight Zone".
All that said, I have loved every one of these books and have pretty much done straight through listens on all of them (plenty of credit to the excellent skills of Liam Owen as well). I think it is because Saxon Andrew's stories provide a vision of what things could be like if we were primarily driven by the desire to love and care for one another and the will to find large non-zero sum solutions for our differences. The strength of these themes make me suspend my disbelief on the types of issues described above and instead look at these stories as inspirational fantasy with a science fiction flavor.
I would recommend these books (especially, but not solely, for young adults) not because they are strong examples of the sci fi genre (as I see it, they are not), but because they provide food for thought on where want to go as a civilization. I am very much looking forward to the continuation of the series.
many editing errors repeated we spoken sentences
a good continuation of previous books in the series.

    Overall it's great!
The main character drives me nuts with her decisions. But overall these books are awesome. I can't wait to read book three.
    Great story
I can't get enough - I can't stop. keep you involved & on the edge wanting mire
Great Story - Not so great performance
I gave the performance 3 stars only because it was slightly better than the 1st book (which I gave 1 star for performance). I feel that she doesn't do justice for this book. It is SUCH a great series, but her voice makes it difficult to enjoy. I recommend that you read this series first and then listen (if you can get past the monotonous drone of her voice).

Length: 9 hrs and 30 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 09-16-14
    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 77 votes
    Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Sci-Fi: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
It's 2015, and Patricia Cowan is very old. "Confused today," read the notes clipped to the end of her bed. She forgets things she should know - what year it is, major events in the lives of her children. But she remembers things that don't seem possible. She remembers marrying Mark and having four children. And she remembers not marrying Mark and raising three children with Bee instead. She remembers the bomb that killed President Kennedy in 1963, and she remembers Kennedy in 1964, declining to run again after the nuclear exchange that took out Miami and Kiev.
Her childhood, her years at Oxford during the Second World War - those were solid things. But after that, did she marry Mark or not? Did her friends all call her Trish, or Pat? Had she been a housewife who escaped a terrible marriage after her children were grown, or a successful travel writer with homes in Britain and Italy? And the moon outside her window: does it host a benign research station, or a command post bristling with nuclear missiles?
Two lives, two worlds, two versions of modern history; each with their loves and losses, their sorrows and triumphs. Jo Walton's My Real Children is the tale of both of Patricia Cowan's lives... and of how every life means the entire world.
    Members Reviews:
A strange take on an otherwise simple story.
What did you like best about My Real Children? What did you like least?
I liked the alternate history elements mentioned in the background of the main story, The main story itself, both Pat and Trish was engaging enough, but slow paced and without tension. The ending was ultimately unfulfilling, and i would have enjoyed some kind of exploration into the "why" of the parallel worlds. Was a little depressing overall.
Would you be willing to try another book from Jo Walton? Why or why not?
Probably not, a little substanceless and slow paced for my liking. not a bad book overall however.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Alison Larkin?
yes. she did a good job.
    Great story, intriguing concept
Loved the concept and the story built from the choice made by Patricia. A very intriguing and interesting story. Very much a character-driven plot, and very little "science fiction". Alison Larkin was the perfect narrator for this.
    Intriguing
What did you love best about My Real Children?
Nothing is decided at the end of this book. Which path did Patricia (Pat) really take? Did she marry the man who would make her life miserable? Did she take the unconventional path? Why can't she figure out which of her memories are real? Which of the dear children she remembers are her real children? Are the others really a figment of her imagination? Does she even really want to know or would she rather just keep her happy memories?
Who was your favorite character and why?
Things are clear in the memory of sweet Patricia until dementia takes over and she can't remember the details of her life after a life-changing decision. Did she say yes to the overbearing man who would become her husband or did she say no and follow a completely unconventional and controversial path. Was she known to those she loved as Patricia or as Pat?
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Nothing about this novel is ordinary. This book will leave you guessing long after the last page has been read.

Skip this painful listen for very little thrill
I used to want to be a movie star. It really didn't take long in high school drama classes for me to realize that I was not an an actor. It was sad, but I moved on to something that I AM good at. Mr. Williams is faced with that decision now, before more time passes. His voice is not suitable for narrating. He mispronounces words like "proffered." He has almost no ability at voice characterization. There is some inflection in the conversations, but too little. He needs another job.
The painful narration makes it hard to tell if the story is good or not. The first hour (which is more than a third of the book) is boring and lacking in character development. It is hard to pay attention. About half way in, the tables are turned and the action heats up, but the narration is so bad that you can't cheer for the cavalry (twice), you can't mourn for the important deaths (twice), and the journal entry at the end is a cop-out wrap up that is supposed to thrill your Marine-loving heart, but ends up worse than a commencement speech. It might be more enjoyable in print, but probably not.
    How Do You Do It?
How do you get through what appears to be a good story read poorly? I'm struggling here. I want to listen to the series but it isn't starting out well. People are getting blown up, giving their lives for their fellow marines, bargained away by corrupt leaders and all I could do was to keep slapping my cheeks to keep me awake. I know it's a good story because I'm mad as hell at the publisher for not casting it properly and ruining the experience.
Sorry. I know this is cold. It just seems the publisher/producer/editor didn't give a damn about their reputation or the author's. I hope Mr. Allan can take more control of the presentation of his works.
    Great book
Action from start to finish. Read / listen to it. Thank you will find out what a great book it is let alone the entire series.

    Fun action
Action thriller with not a lot of depth but it is pretty good. I had a weird feeling of déjà vu the entire book like I read it before but I couldn't have. I liked it enough that I will probably read the next one when it comes out.
Fast pace, edge of seat plot and action
The narration is very good, I enjoyed the characters and plot. Looking forward to the next book in series.
Solid premise, might work better as a movie
What did you love best about Koko Takes a Holiday?
The premise and lead character more than anything else. The cyberpunk setting is quite nice and I quite enjoy the more satirical elements that seem pulled straight from a Paul Verhoeven flick. Honestly, I'd think it would work better as a film, not just from the random commercials throughout that help build the world, but because the present tense narration reads more like a screenplay than a novel.
Would you recommend Koko Takes a Holiday to your friends? Why or why not?
Depends on the friends. Know a few who would be put off by the gratuitous violence and sexuality on display, but others who would be sold on it. Definitely the kind of book I'd recommend to any friends who enjoy a good old action romp.
    Which scene was your favorite?
The poker scene. The banter between Koko and Flynn is great and sharp. Definitely the high point.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
I'm horrible with taglines. Seriously, don't ask me this kind of thing.
    Any additional comments?
Great listen if you're looking for something a little less serious to spend your time with.
    Fun sci-fi action
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Nice fast-paced action set in a sci-fi dystopia. Dark humor, lots of violence, focused on the action and drive of the story. Some nice banter to the dialogue. I guess some are comparing it to a comic book, but my first thought was, oh, this reads sort of like a Lee Child book, which is meant to be both praise and criticism. Takes you on a fun ride for sure. I especially liked the first half, perhaps because there was more intriguing world-building going on before it was all about the action and plot threads being brought together in some typical fashion or other.
But my problem, as it was with the Lee Child I have read, is that I couldn't really get into any of the characters. They're cool, and fun to tag along with for the action and reaction that drives the plot, but I didn't find a deeper interest pulling me into their lives. As much as I wanted to with Koko and Depressus Guy (Flynn).

    Members Reviews:
    Another very good zombie story
This is the first John L Campbell story I have heard and I was pleasantly surprised. It really is yet another very good title to add to the zombie genre.
The narration was pretty good, not RC Bray quality but still very good. The narration was slower than I liked and was easily sped up to 1.5x speed without any problems at all. This does shorten the length of the story somewhat but it is still excellent value per hour, if that makes a difference (I know it does for me on a limited budget)
The story starts off with a lot of separate accounts of survivors but towards the very end, it speeds up as the separate subplots and groups come together. I get the sense this is going to be a long series because this first book has only very briefly tackled the idea of 'why the end started'. I am going to purchase the next in the series and can only hope it is just as good as this one!
If you are interested in this type of title may I also suggest the following:
    Adrians Undead Diary (series)
Z-Burbia (series) has a lot more violence and naughty language
    Mountain Man (series)
    I shouldn't be reading this.
Mr. Campbell has that unique talent of drawing the reader into his book and making them feel that they are in with the survivors. Love the story development and the reader is marvelous.
A must to listen to and a keeper in your library. And this comes from someone who is NOT a zombie fan.........well, that may change.
    I don't like cliffhangers
I missed my zombies. I'll be buying the rest of the series. I liked the different point of views. I don't like that cliffhanger, though.
    jumble of short stories
Rather common in the zombie genre are stories of disparate groups of survivors trying to make it out alive. This book is a lot of that, unfortunately its nothing but that. If you are not paying attention, you lose track of which group you are listening to.
Because there were so many groups, so many characters and quick switching between them, I didn't have time to connect with any of them, and anyone could just die at any time anyways. There wasn't any major story plot to follow.
I like it when these groups meet or unknowingly interact, but in this book, it wasn't until the very end that these groups met and merged which made me buy book 2 in the series, because I thought, finally, we get a main story. I already read the second book, so I can say, its better, but the author again separated the now big group into small groups, so same style yet again!
Nonetheless, the writing skill is very high, and so is the narration which must have been challenging because of the many female voices.
    Disappointed
I purchased this book because there were some great reviews, but I don't understand why there were great reviews. I've listened to A LOT of zombie stories and this was even worse than Tofu's long-series to nowhere.

    Australian Zombie Story! meh
    What disappointed you about Aftermath?
The style of writing which was very much, 'she said', 'he said'. The Australian male characters seemed more like teenage girls. Too much of will you be my boyfriend/girlfriend? Made me think the author was a teenager (he or she might be and I would encourage them to keep going). I like to think I am just not the market the author was after! But hey! It is a zombie story placed in Australia!
Why, if the story is based in Australia why does the narrator use miles instead of kilometres?
What was most disappointing about Owen Lucas Baillies story?
The style of writing. The character development. The ending
Would you be willing to try another one of Tim Budass performances?
    No
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Aftermath?
Anything to do with the tangled love interest of the group
    Any additional comments?
Anyone know any good end of the world stories with an aussie perspective?
    Boring
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
If I cared about any of the characters. I just didnt, they kept making the same mistakes over and over.
Has Aftermath turned you off from other books in this genre?
No, I know there are good ones. I just have to find them
What didnt you like about Tim Budass performance?
His performance wasn't awful, but the source material was so bad it was hard to like anything about the book.
What character would you cut from Aftermath?
Unfortunately most of the women, and that's the whole problem! They we're all such weak characters, needing the men to come save them. One of them was a flipping DOCTOR!!! She should have taken control of the situation and been a huge asset to the team. But no, the writer demeaned her character and gave her PTSD for some unknown reason. Probably to make the men feel more superior.
    Any additional comments?
Don't waste your money or credit and pick up WWZ, The Remaining, or the Rot & Ruin series.
    so very predictable
i have not heard anything worse than this. not worth my time or money. seriously
Loved the story...and the cattle dog is awsome
Would you listen to Aftermath again? Why?
I loved the story and especially that there is a dog character in the story. So cool how they went away and the world changed.

Under rated but not for every one
There hasn't been only two reviews on this book from what it looks like, one disappointed and the other in the middle so for the third I'll say I loved it. Very sad but very intriguing.
    Excellent story and good performance
The performance was almost perfect. The tone is a little bland, but he's consistent, and diverse in his characters. The story was excellent and didn't waste any time getting to the point. The only thing that I didn't like was the narrow focus of the story, considering the scope of the issue. There was much more story to tell, and at the end you are left wanting more of it. I would definitely like to see more stories based in this world.
    I wanted to like it
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I saw this at Barnes and Noble and as someone who has insomnia, I was intrigued. I read the first chapter there, then decided to get it on Audible since I commute on Fridays and Mondays about 3 hours and would give me something to listen to.
I don't like the narrator's voice at all. It annoyed me. I also did not really like the story. I felt like there could have been so much more done with this book. I stopped at Chapter 8. There was still almost 4 hours left of the book and I don't think I'll be finishing it. The other reviews praised this book, but I found it boring.
If youve listened to books by Adrian Barnes before, how does this one compare?
    No
How did the narrator detract from the book?
I did not like it at all.
Could you see NOD being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
    No.
    Any additional comments?
I just wish it had been better. I love stories of this genre and this was definitely not worth it for me.
A strange and fascinating end to it all
This is a story told from the viewpoint of a man who can sleep when the rest of humanity has lost the ability. It starts gently with his girlfriend complaining about a restless night but then becomes completely gripping with the realisation that something terrible is going on in the world. I was awestruck by the description of how quickly society would disintegrate if such an event happened. This is a tale of madness and chaos and the descent is totally credible.
The main character is the perfect commentator. He is a misanthrope who claims to dislike people and yet his compassionate description of his girlfriend's horrible disintegration is very moving. On top of that, he is an expert on words and their often mysterious origins, and his musings on what is going on gives an almost poetic feel to this tale.
    The narrator is fantastic.

    Good, not Great
The stories were good and for the price worth the money. But I expected more.
    Mixed bag
Loved some, liked some and felt one was a story that could have happened anywhere, anytime with speculative elements tossed in as after thought. Loved OSC Ender extras. Such broad range, I'd recommend it. Something for everyone.
I came for Ender's Universe, but was dissapointed
    Any additional comments?
Only one Ender's universe history: Mazer in Prison (which is great).
Although there are many good short stories, I was a bit disappointed that there was not more from Ender's universe.
Would be good to have the titles of all stories on the description of this audiobook.
