Not as good as the first one...but enjoyable

I enjoyed this story very much. Perhaps not as good as the first one, but I was engaged enough to care about the primary characters. This story is from Jack's perspective and his regrets and though they were realistic, they did drag just a bit. I wasn't real sure why he was still having such a hard time just stating that he was gay. Another point (spoiler beyond) is I am not sure if there was something missing in the audio version or if the author just neglected to follow through but when Jack was locked up, the expanse of time just happened, which made no sense. Then the reunion between Jack and Caleo was a bit contrived but bearable, I really enjoyed this book. My biggest complaint...the ending sucked...I understand the need for a cliffhanger if there is another book in the series but I do not think that the death was really necessary (being vague as to not spoil). Also, the third part was promised in 2014 and it still hasn't been released, which is disappointing although I know that life happens to authors as well as to their characters...I was just a bit disappointed. All-in-all, a good book that I would recommend...of course you must start with Caleo first...

Excellent beginning to a trilogy

The novel Vivid by Andrea Murray is definitely YA though I would add Mature to that- that's just me.

There are some familiar elements- that's not a bad thing - in fact it made my hair stand on end to see Vivian and her friend Abby in high school facing the usual angst that life dishes out plus being the target of Trista and the bully elite. When Vivian displays some rather remarkable powers that's when the chills start and I got shades of Stephen Kings Carrie.

Fortunately we have Easton Garrett and Cooper McNeal to ground them. These fellows are almost unbelievable. That might be why it takes the girls so much time to figure out that they are real.

Just when things begin to look like they are getting better Vivian discovers her families dark secrets and it supplies some answers to some rather frightening memories she's been having. Vivian is beside herself trying to keep her secrets and live a normal life. But, prom is on the way and we all know what that could lead to.

Because she's been using her powers- even though its sparingly- she's running the potential for putting a pin on the map for some very bad people.

By the time things get rough we have moved on into something similar to Stephen Kings FireStarter and the feeling that this could get really bad.

And though I mentally draw these similarities Vivian and the people surrounding her are nothing like the characters in those other books. Andrea Murray uses her knowledge to draw us into the lives of some convincing teens trying to deal with their normal lives while they get thrust into something that is far from normal.

By the end of the story you will definitely want to know what is going to happen in the next of the trilogy.

I'll start by saying this book is outside of my genre reading but I wanted to try something different. If you're looking for romace from a young woman's perspective with some supernatural elements and some thrills and action thrown in, this book will do it for you.

High pace!

Now, that Mila knows what she is, and her world has been turned upside down with the death of her mom. She only has two things to go by to find more information about herself. Richard Grady and Sarah. Not wanting to go on the trip to find out who these people are alone, she calls up the only other person she has feelings for Hunter, to come along with her. But as there trip progresses Mila begins to get Hunter has ultra motives and she begins to wonder how well does she really know Hunter?

This is a great high pace book with twist that you don't expect. You know the books that start giving to hints to something and you know the twist way before it even happens? Well I thought this was going to be one of those books, but the author really throws you for a loop. I didn't see a lot of the things coming. And I thought it would happen one way and it happened another...this book really kept me on my toes.

The end does leave in a cliff hanger and there is a piece of time missing where you want to know what happened to a lot of the characters. So there is a lot to look forward to in the next book.

Good, but has Pacing Issues

I fell in love with the first book, and when this one came out I was ecstatic. I was expecting some more great characterization, action, and Mila's inter conflict. This book has some of that... but falls flat at others.

The book started out right were we left off, with Hunter just traveled cross-country to Mila's aid. Then we get a series of different lies that she tells Hunter because she chickens out to tell him the truth. This is all great character for Mila, but get repetitive real fast. One or two attempts would have gotten the point across. I found myself skipping over some of those parts. Then, our two main characters go on a cross country on "Bio-Daddy Road Trip." This takes up a good chuck of the book. This, in of itself, is not bad. Its good to get a little break from constant action. When Mila starts to suspect Hunter for being the enemy, though, I gets repetitious again. The conflict itself was great, but we don't need to have the same facts repeated over and over. Some words and descriptions were repeated a few times to many as well. If I have to hear "phantom heart" one more time...

But this doesn't ruin the book. Not at all. Mila's character continues to amaze me.

Some Hilarity, some Slightly Scary and a Whole lot of Weird

This was odd.

It is really outside my normal wheelhouse as it is a bit comedy and a little bit horrorlite/mystery.

The short of it is let's just say that a Wax boy comes to life and helps a social media sensation (not in a good way but in an 'I'll be in therapy the rest of my life because my most embarrassing moment went viral' way) and her theater group save the town from wax copies replacing main members of the small town.

There is some hilarity, some slightly scary and a whole lot of weird.

Crazy and scary work well together

This book was a lot of fun, and sometimes that's exactly what you're looking for. The characters were well-realized and imperfect, so that even the ones that were annoying (I kinda wanted to smack best friend Jill) worked together to make the story come to life.

The ridiculousness of the storyline is established early in the book, and the writing makes it easy to just go with it. I really enjoyed the characters' frantic attempts to save their town, and didn't find myself questioning their efforts in such a crazy alternate reality.

I've enjoyed Damico's other books, and this one made me want to go back and reread her previous work.

If Gilmore Girls met Goosebumps...

I am new to the works of Gina Damico, but after "Wax," consider me a big fan. I read a hundred or more books each year, and every so often there's a real standout, the kind of book that it is a pleasure to read and one you hope might never end. "Wax," a children's mystery-thriller (ages 12 and up, so says the book) is an unlikely candidate for the affections of a late-30s parent of two, but it really is an awesome book. It has a little bit of everything: humor, suspense, genuine horrors, adventure, really colorful characters, and lots of great literary, theatrical, and historical references.

Prequel draws readers into Jordinia series

For those who have not yet read the Jordinia series by C.K. Brooke, this new, free prequel provides a gripping introduction to the story of the lost duchess, heroine of the first two books in the series, "Duchess Quest," and "The Duchess Inheritance." This novella tells the story of the empress of Jordinia, just prior to the revolution. As the increasing discontent of the citizenry is told through the empress's journal entries, she must decide whether her loyalties lie with her one true love who leads the uprising, or with her cold and distant husband and their beloved children. C.K. Brooke is skilled at drawing readers into a time period and fleshing out characters in rich detail. Here, we are reading the diary entries of the young woman who will become the mother of Dainy (from The Duchess Inheritance).

The diary entries span many years and tell the story from before Neandra becomes an Empress and up to the relative time period that The Duchess Inheritance begins. We see the struggles Neandra faces with her new husband, the births of her children, and her attempts to connect with the people that she rules over.

I loved getting a sneak peek into the mind of Neandra during a hostile time in Jordinia history. Her tale was sad at times, but it added another layer to the story since we don't get to see much of her in the other books. However, her legacy lives on through her daughter.

Loved it!

This trilogy, from start to finish ,had me riveted.I loved it because no matter what I thought was going to happen next...I was wrong.lol. I look forward to reading more books by the author.

A vampire story well worth the read!

I absolutely love where book 3 of the Maura DeLuca Trilogy - Riptide: Betrayal of Blood took me. The best out of the three, Claudette Melansonâs writing stepped it up another notch. While I was sad to have to stay dangling from Undertowâs (book 2) cliffhanger, I am glad I held on because Mauraâs clumsy yet endearing attempts to do the right thing, atone for her wrongs, and find a way to make everyone happy had me hooked. I am glad to read that Melanson will have additional stories to hopefully tie up some loose ends and possibly let us see the progression of characters we were sorry to see so little of after their turn to the vampire side.

Riptide gave Maura a chance to reflect on her mistakes and make new ones like all teens are destined to do, but with her life as a born vampire not going as anyone had planned she is adamant about finding Ron, being with her mom and dad, and making amends for the mistakes that cost her friend her life and cost Maura her sister. Of course, as with most things in Mauraâs life, none of those things will come easily or without a cost.

as much as I enjoyed the actual STORY I despised the narrator/performer

don't know if she was a teenage girl or just putting on a hellacious act in hopes that her family, as well as close friends, are taken in order to drum up money.

like I said, the story is fantastically well written and put together.

A rousing and satisfying conclusion to this dystopian YA series

Tracy Lawson and the Resistance Series is what Indie publishing is all about: giving voice to new ideas, stories and passions and a distribution platform to get those creatives works into the hands of readers. Her fourth book in the series, Revolt, brings the dystopian story of Careen Catecher and Tommy Bailey to a heart-pounding, rousing conclusion that that stays true to its YA themes and characters but refuses to wrap the aftermath in a tight, pretty bow. I have enjoyed reading the Resistance series from book one, Counteract, and Lawson's writing and story gets stronger with each book. In Revolt, she remains true to the characters and their arcs using a classic lean writing style to maintain forward momentum and keep the pace fast. I found the conclusion satisfying as a reader, but appreciated her decision to leave us in an imperfect world complicated by the consequences the decisions made by those seeking power and control.

Recommend reading the series in order to fully appreciate the evolution of the main characters.

I have read all four books in this series. I recommend reading them in order to fully appreciate the evolution of the main characters. I latched onto one of the quiet heroes in the series. Eduardo, the postal carrier.

This is the conclusion to the story of Careen, Tommy and the rest of the resistance who are fighting the OCSD

They are trying to stop the Cerberean Link, The tracker that Atari the Tech head designed, he is working for both the Resistance team AND the OCSD! OR does he have his own agenda???? You will have to read the book to find out.

The storyline as it went was a slow burn but I was still glued to my kindle right to the very end.

As a conclusion, I think Ms Lawson did a good job of wrapping up the storyline, BUT with scope for maybe some further stories - Once you were linked it was permanent, so who knows what could happen!

What I found the most compelling about this series is that it's not so unbelievable - and to be honest America seems to be on the precipice of a big shift with the current administration, it starts small...
