    Publisher's Summary:
New York Times best-selling author A. J. Hartley returns to his intriguing 19th-century South African-inspired fantasy world in Firebrand, another adrenaline-pounding adventure.
Once a steeplejack, Anglet Sutonga is used to scaling the heights of Bar-Selehm. Nowadays she assists politician Josiah Willinghouse behind the scenes of Parliament. The latest threat to the city-state: Government plans for a secret weapon are stolen and feared to be sold to the rival nation of Grappoli. The investigation leads right to the doorsteps of Elitus, one of the most exclusive social clubs in the city. In order to catch the thief, Ang must pretend to be a foreign princess and infiltrate Elitus. But Ang is far from royal material, so Willinghouse enlists help from the exacting Madam Nahreem.
Yet Ang has other things on her mind. Refugees are trickling into the city, fleeing Grappoli-fueled conflicts in the north. A demagogue in Parliament is proposing extreme measures to get rid of them, and she soon discovers that one theft could spark a conflagration of conspiracy that threatens the most vulnerable of Bar-Selehm. Unless she can stop it.

A refreshing and original new voice!
Firebrand gets another high rating from yours truly, because it's an exceptionally original story with a unique voice.
First, the narrator on audio, Noma Dimezweni. I adore her! She truly brought Ang and all the supporting characters to life.
Secondly, as a mystery this book truly connected to the current state of events. Sometimes it even felt like I was watching news instead of reading urban fantasy. All the indicators were there: wars, unemployment, refugee crisis and the oppression of certain races based on their skin color.
Ang continues working for the young and ambitious politician, Josiah Willinghouse and his sister Dahria, and this time her task as a detective is to follow the traces of stolen plans for a devastating war machine which lead to an exclusive private club, Elitus.
Ang's choices are to give up her promising career or wear a disguise and mix with the wealthy in order to steal the plans back or to reveal the culprits.
Enter a mysterious, reclusive Madam Nahreem who takes over Ang's training to create a disguise of an exotic visiting princess from faraway lands.
This, ladies and gents, was my favorite part of the book, because it challenged Ang's perception of herself as an inferior being and forced her to grow as a character. It was also a very tense and exciting affair, and I expect her to wear more similar masks in the future.
Otherwise, expect reckless rooftop races, a twisted mystery, an elegant villain, grisly secrets and a dark mythological creature come to life.
Much recommended to fans of YA Mystery and non - European steampunk. I am looking forward to more of A.J. Hartley's unique storytelling.

    Another Amazing Rollercoaster ride!
Another great installment in the Mindspeak Series. I was gifted a copy of this book four my honest opinion, but it was already on my TBR. I have been obsessed with series since Book 1 and I got to meet all of the characters.
Deceived is the story of Bree and Jonas as the original 7 either pair up or find a new mate. Bree is fiery red head, Jonas feels responsible to fix the problems his mother caused. Jonas feels he is not good for Bree and pushes her away. Before she leaves the island of Palmyria she encounters 2 sick clones and realizes her potential in identifying a medical issue that Jonas couldn't see. There she encounters an old for and ends up in Portland where her parents live and work. Something is not adding up and clones are missing. Can Bree and Jonas solve the mystery and prove to one another they should be together?
Fast paced, glimpses of the other original clones and a rollercoaster ride. I love this series
Book 5 in the series does NOT disappoint!!
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review....
When I was offered the chance to get this book in advance if I would be willing to leave an honest review, I jumped at the chance. I am not usually a sci fi type of gal but someone introduced me to book 1 in this series and I've been hooked on the series ever since.
Deceived, the 5th installment, does NOT disappoint. I think I might even have enjoyed it even more than some of the others, although they were all amazing. I loved the plot twists and also the development of Bri & Jonas's characters and relationship.
It is a definite page turner as you try to figure out where the plot could be going. Sometimes, this far into a series, things can slow down or seem to get tired but NOT with this series. I can't WAIT for the next installment.
Highly recommend this book and series!
Good Story That Can Be Read Alone with Good Character Development
I received a free copy for my honest review. I have never read this author or the series. I can say that it is easy to follow and catch up on the premise of the series in this book without reading the other 4 although I will probably read them. The main characters of the series are well written and a plot with a lot of twists and turns and a lot of speculation and intrigue on how the relationship between the 2 main characters would evolve.

Tracked, fourth in the Mindspeak series, can be listened to as a stand-alone novel.

Finally healing from his girlfriend's murder, human clone Kyle Jones is on a mission: find the stolen trackers scientists are using to control the actions of innocent children. When he meets Raven, he uses his supernatural gift to explore her repressed memories and discovers the missing trackers have everything to do with who is now watching Raven. And who killed his first love.
As past and present collide, Raven struggles to face her demons, but remembering the truth of that fateful night could prove fatal. And Kyle will do anything to ensure the past isn't repeated.
    Members Reviews:
Excellent Addition to the Mindspeak Series
Jonas sends Kyle to Costa Rica to investigate strange reports about children and to see if he can find what happened to two shipments of trackers that went missing. There, he meets Raven, the American daughter of a couple who run a humanitarian camp, who witnessed a murder the previous year, but can not remember what happened that night. After Raven is almost kidnapped, Kyle is shocked to find she has a tracker in her neck. He calls in reinforcements and is soon joined by Lexi, Jack, and Jonas. Raven must remember that horrible night in order to find out just what is going on in the little town of La Fortuna.
Like the first Mindspeak book, Tracked starts out a little slow, but once it really gets going, it doesnât slow down again. It was left completely open for additional books (and I do hope the author writes more!), but the story can end here. It occurs in the same âworldâ as the first three Mindspeak books, not long after the end of the third one, with some of the same characters, but in a totally different setting. It is more or less able to be a standalone book (it is surely better having read Mindspeak, Mindsiege, and Mindsurge first, however). I definitely recommend this book for Mindspeak fans and anyone who enjoys young adult books.
    great book.
I loved the whole Mindspeak series. This book is a little different from the other books in the series. We are introduced to some new characters and also some of the older characters. The story is told from Raven and Kyle's point of view. I have enjoyed reading this series and can't wait for another book, hopefully I won't have to wait to long.
    Another Mindspeak book. YAY!
This is Kyle's story after the death of Danielle. Raven doesn't know that she has been tracked and with the help of the other clones they are able to solve a mystery and help Raven with the tracker in her head. I have followed the Mindspeak Series from the beginning and very much enjoyed this new entry.
    Good read
I am enjoying Heather's style more with each book. This had less foul language which I really appreciate and it has almost non-stop intrigue which I love.

    well done B+
Finally someone who doesn't give the heroine a whiny overdramatic voice! And doesn't try too hard with the guy voices.
I had high hopes & low expectations for the audiobook version but in the end I was pleasantly surpised. I give C.S.E Cooney a solid B+ overall for narration - and that's high marks from me.

A Time Travel Story With Real Heart
Here's a Young Adult novel that took the tropes of my childhood (made me think of Quantum Leap and Back to the Future in parts) but gave it a real emotional impact and depth that I didn't expect. The action left me turning pages long after I should have been asleep, and I felt a real connection to the narrator, Jack.
You don't see many stories which approach gender quite the way this story does. Body switches are often the punchline, and while Jack was at first perturbed about being in someone else's body, the fact that he'd traveled in time and inhabited a body that was not his own was a more pressing matter than that body's gender. Jack didn't lose his personality or identity throughout the story, but grew from the experience. I can't wait for more stories in this series, to learn more about the world of the Travelers and Guardians.
Much more than a time travel book, I promise.
    I hate time travel stories.
    Hate hate hate hate hate.
I'll make an exception here. It's a well-written book which moves fast enough to avoid the trope of time travel being the *subject* of the story. The cuts are quick and just as confusing to the reader as the narrator at first. This sucks you in, and then you're up two hours too late on a work night reading.
I could wax effusive about the prose...I won't, it's good but not great, because YA can be a bit limiting and because realistically this ain't Dickens, and that's fine. The story is tight, the plot is nimble and fun, and the writing is, as I said, good. There aren't excessive details or long, sidetracked storylines...you couldn't hack 4 pages out of this book. As an editor, that's high praise.
Worth every penny, and did I mention it's the author's first foray into fiction? I look forward to much, much more, even if I suspect I just committed myself to beta read something down the road.
Which is fine. If it's half as good as this, it's good. Pick this book up ASAP and don't let the time travel trope throw you off the scent of a swift, excellent YA debut.
    Twisty and Full of Character
The Unintentional Time Traveler is a fast-paced piece of YA fiction with a few interesting twists on genre and character tropes that kept me interested and wanting to read more. The characters are well-drawn and complex: no easy trope-role-filling here.

    Members Reviews:
    Feudlings in Smoke Delivers
Let me start off by saying if you haven't read Feudlings first, stop right now and go read that. This isn't a standalone, it's a companion novella. You won't really have a grasp on anything unless you do. That being said I was so happy to find out that Wendy was doing a book about Will, the brother to Arianna, the Edren Prodigy and the protagonist of the Fate on Fire series. Being locked up in a rebel colony for the entire first book, you don't get to see as much of him as I would have liked.
This book did not fail to deliver everything we were promised. You see how frustrating it is for Will to be away from his sister and unable to keep her safe even though his whole reason for existing is to protect her. He's the voice of reason and the moral compass that keeps Ari from buying the lies she was told her whole life. Without Will she wouldn't be a hero, she would be the monster she always feared she would become. The Fate on Fire series is full of action and romance and will take you on an emotional roller coaster.
    Great companion
This is a sweet companion that fleshes out the sweet and desperate love a brother has for his sister and visa versa. While these two were well fleshed out in the main novels, and no one would have questioned their love and devotion, this just emphasized it. It also gave us a peak into Will and Dani's relationship. Excellent job!
    Feudlings II
All the Feudlings books are excellent. I would say that my chief complaint is that there are no more. I will definitely read more of this author's books.
    Short Story
I liked what she was trying to do here, give you an insight into Will's character. However, it only seemed to cover the very beginning of Ari's saga. I would have least liked to see a part when Will goes to meet Shane, Hunter and Chastity. Mentally I was trying to link up when Will and Ari meet in the book and what part of Ari's books we were in. Most of the book was Will either talking to Ari or being in the same place as Ari, however, it really only covered the first few chapters of Ari's first book. I think it would have been better if it had been fleshed out a little bit more and if more of the story had been added. Even so I enjoyed the book and can't wait for the next book in Ari's series!
    excellent!
I love Will's character so I was thrilled to have a story in his point of view.

    Life
This story didn't go as I thought it would, and it was far shorter than I wanted it to be. I really enjoyed the characters and Therese Plummer did such an amazing job :) Love the book MM.
Absolutely stunning imagery and faeries extremely creative likable world and characters
Read this book if you like books with the Fae and magical powers but not the predictable cheesy ones. I've been hopelessly struggling to find a new favorite book and this is IT. Makes me constantly read until over. Best fiction I've read in agessss.
    Surprises and Heartbreak
After finishing the first book, I was put-off because I felt like I didn't know who the characters were. There was definitely more development in this book, but I'm really upset that the characters still feel a bit distant. I wish there had been more emphasis on understanding the characters, if there was a way that could work with the rapid plot developments and changes.
I feel like there is still a lot of unresolved arcs that came fairly close to completion but are still loose.
I like seeing the princess slowly losing herself. The eventual explanation for it was what I had guess but very well done. I wish it had been explored more because the control of Nature over her is incredibly intriguing and I'm dying to know more!
Nick's fae ancestry was deliciously surprising and did make sense. I liked seeing Lily interact with the criminal underground after 1 being socialized with normal people and 2 after learning her royal lineage. Seeing the world that was previously the only home she had known with fresh eyes was very interesting.
I liked seeing Eric again and his interaction and integration into the Black Diamonds. I wish there was a bit more resolution with the tension and "fatedness" between him and Violet though.
I was really heartbroken when Alchemy died, although when she had said that the day was literally perfect in every way I knew she would, which was a bit cliche.

This continued seamlessly, it still has teen angst and a little crushing but it's not so much as in the first book. I couldn't stop listening I cleaned all day yesterday listening to it.
The narration really brings the story to life.

What did you like best about this story?
Elijah Brighton is the face of the Human Resistance Movement - and he's not entirely human.
A great and awesome story full of lies, deception, angst, thrills, surprises, technology, challenges of the spirit, mind, body and soul, and love.
Which character as performed by Nick Podehl was your favorite?
Nick is such an amazing narrator - from the start you are hooked, being dragged into this world that never wants you to let go.
    Amazing
Elijah is totally different from everyone and no one else realizes it. Makes for an interesting story. As wonderful as all the other stories, but a pleasure to listen to Able to go for a walk or do housework while being entertained at the same time.
    Pure Ascendance
Eli, is now a face of the resistance whether he wants to be or not. His fugue state is also changing it is taking him deeper and for longer. It is showing him so much more not just how to paint anymore, and he doesn't know who he can trust to talk about this with, it seems everyone has their own agenda when it comes to him. This is another wonderful action packed, suspenseful book set in the future where the Ascenders (human/machine hybrids) are the powerful, the revered, the feared, and the pitied (at least by some like Eli). Is Eli the coming bridge or not, that is the huge question that both the resistance and the Ascenders want to know now, and will go to great lengths to find out.
I have been fan of Ms. Quinn's books for a long time and that hasn't changed with this book, it was awesome.
