Rekindled my love for this book!!

I have loved this series since I began reading it way back in 2012! Getting to relive it through the audiobook was even better though!! It was thoroughly entertaining with the narrator's voices bringing these beloved characters to life! At first I was a teensy but annoyed by the voice she used for Gabe though as I envisioned him sounding a bit different, but after a few chapters it had me giggling each time he spoke up. Grams was spot on!! She is a freaking riot!!

If you are new to Stacey Rourke & her highly addictive world's she creates this is a superb introduction to her work. She always brings a splendid mix of emotion, action, comedy, & snarky wit along with a few heart wrenching moments to ensure we keep coming back for more. The Gryphon Series happens to be the first that lured me in & I just had to have more after that! I actually read The Conduit after book 2 by accident though. HeeHeeHee If you are a paranormal fan that likes sassy characters then this should bring you hours of joy.

"Aarrrgghh" Now changed to: All right!

It's unusual for me to give a book a rating this low, but I couldn't help myself. I liked Slated, though it could have been better; I REALLY enjoyed Fractured. But this? It ain't a bad book and most importantly IM NOT DONE WITH IT. But from the beginning Kyla or Riley or whoever the heck she is was just rubbing me in the wrong way. She behaves like a total %#$@Â to Lucy Connor, her adopted mother, who all she wants to do is love her like a daughter. Her decisions a lot of times didn't seem to make much sense to me, and I kind of disliked her personality change-the sense of wonder, or-spark which made her so lovely to read about in Slated and throughout Fractured is pretty much gone. I get that she's not naive anymore and gone through a lot, but I'm halfway through the book and at this point it mentions her smiling, like, two times. All she seems is thoroughly miserable.

Not to mention that I am INCREDIBLY tired of Ben. The only reason I can imagine her being so, so obsessed with Ben, like thinking of him every other page, is that he is the first male person she met after leaving the hospital when she was slated. I didn't think that particular romance would be so crucial to the series. Ben was nice, which is great. But that's it. He was just nice. No other details. At this point, he is starting to feel like a singularly bland character probably the least interesting in the whole series, I kid you not. There were any number of other guys throughout: there was Katran, who DIED to save Rain out of love. But then he was a terrorist, so it wasn't completely right. There was Cam who turned out to be a spy-I was so upset at that. He was so much fun! There's Aiden, who obviously loves her so much, is interesting, is NOT a Lorder, is NOT a terrorist, is a really good guy. But all she thinks about is Ben,Ben,Ben. I'm not saying she should be fickle and ditch him. I just mean he was not well developed and interesting enough to get us to root for him this long. You feel?

Also that every single female character in this series has to be hooked up with somebody. Amy with Jazz, Madison with Finley-honestly?

Anyway, I'll update later.

OMG TOTALLY CHANGED MY MIND!! LOVE THIS TRILOGY!!

Conclusion is brilliant. Plot really picks up the pace in second half of book-first half was irritating.

Feeling a bit cheated

Through all this, and the bloodshed, the anguish and fear of the houses killing each other; it ends with all good and roses. Booo I wanted a certain someone to get their just desserts and bite it dearly, but nooo. I have to admit that the backstory was a bit intriguing , but other than that- I wanted death and mayhem like that if Traveler.

Great Sequel, Waiting For the Conclusion!

This novella picks up right where the last one left us with a cliffhanger. Sinna is escaping with Alex and Jacob when she runs into someone she never expected to see again. Can she accept this person in her life or will she turn her back? No, I'm not going to detail who she saw or why she didn't expect to see them. That would give too much away for both books one and two.

Alex, the young soldier who is helping Sinna rescue Jacob, has a plan. This plan involves his best friend Jasper, another soldier. With Jacob's life on the line Sinna decides to trust these two soldiers, knowing it's her only chance to save her best friend. She convinces them to drive into the ruins near the compound that is Rehabilitation. What they discover there surprises them all.

This novella introduced us to even more characters, developing Sinna more along the way. One thing I love about the way Stone writes is that even though they aren't lengthy novels, I feel like I know these characters better than I do the characters of most 300 or 400 page books. Some people have a talent with characterization and Stone is definitely one of them.

Alex is a frustrating character, but I like him (and I'm pretty sure I have an idea about who his father is, hinted at in this novel). I wish we were able to have more time with Jacob, but his story line made sense. Jasper was a great character, I found myself enjoying the way he thaws slowly, allowing himself to be close to Sinna after a little time (obviously not much time, since the entire novella lasts only a couple of days, but still).

The only downfall of the novel is the fact that it kind of suffers from second book syndrome. It's great, but Sinna gets a little self absorbed and mopey for portions. It's not nearly so extreme as many other novels I've read recently. The second book is often a major downer for me, but this one was really good despite all that.

We get to see some of Sinna's struggles as she finds her way toward God, having been raised in a society where believing is not allowed. The entire society is based on Science over God, thus believers are punished by being sent to rehabilitation.

I know a lot of people would like for this novella to be longer, but honestly I appreciated it's length. The story is just as developed as many several hundred page novels, it just lacks the fluff that gives those their bulk. That's something I can appreciate.

This is the better version

Very entertaining till the end. Love this story. I used to own the abridged version and did not like it since there were lots of details missing which actually help paint the world where the main protagonist lives. I fully recommend this book if you enjoy stories that makes you see your world in a different light!

A book of books already written.

Overall the story had some wonderful aspects and it was interesting how the use of the runes carried it along most elegantly. However, I could hear traces of the Lord of the Rings not written but they were there and other less known books but those that have read them will know. The narrator curiously has collected a range of voices from films i already know, so like old friends finding different words she glamoured me. The ending poetry? was awful I couldnt listen to it. Will I listen to a second one? I will let you know.

Really Good Narrator

This book is a fun read that is good for the whole family. if you're looking for a new author, you found your guy. Dave brings life to the characters, with a wonderful storyline.

I loved this book in print and I love it even more after listening to the audio book. having a female narrator brought me closer to the characters. Her voice helped me connect with the material more intimately.

I highly recommend this book!

Alternate History and Steampunk

This conclusion to the Inventor's Secret trilogy was filled with action as Charlotte takes Grave and flees from New Orleans. She is still a revolutionary but she doesn't want Grave to be used by either the revolutionary forces or the Empire. They flee with pirates but are captured by bounty hunters who deliver them to Empire forces. They are split up with Charlotte taken to the Empire's high tech prison and Grave to tinkers who try to find out why he works.

Meanwhile, Charlotte's friends are attempting to find and rescue them. This story has great steampunk detail in an alternate world where the revolutionaries lost the American revolution and are still under control of the British Empire. I liked that the women were as brave and intrepid as the men. I liked the floating city and the ships that could take to the air to get away from pursuit. I thought the battles with the steampunk weaponry were well done.

I liked that Charlotte wasn't going to automatically follow the revolution just because she had been raised to be a revolutionary but was tweaking her participation to fit with her goals and her conscience.

Fans of alternate history, steampunk, and adventure will enjoy this series.

It's a book!

A fabulous end to an amazing series

This is a review for book three in a series. There may be minor spoilers for the other two books. Consider yourself warned.

Guys! Guys! Ahh! It is finally here! Book 3! Yes!

Pirates, steampunk, alchemy, spies... I mean, what does this book NOT have?! It feels like it has everything! And it is all wrapped up so nicely and entertainingly!

The Turncoat's Gambit, as I have pointed out, is book 3 in The Inventor's Secret series. This makes it the final book for these characters and this world and it makes me sad that we have to say goodbye, but it had to happen sometime. Normally I prolong my farewells and take forever to finish a series, but I couldn't do it with this one. I had to know. I had to finish it. I couldn't put off a book containing pirates and steampunk. I just couldn't.

This third book in the series has us picking up where we left off in book two. On a pirate ship! Jack, Charlotte, Meg, Linette, and Grave are all on the run from both the Empire and the Resistance. Both sides are wanting Grave for their own purposes and Charlotte cannot give him up. She believes Grave deserves a better fate that to be their puppet and science project. So they have employed the pirate, LaChance, to help them escape and get to safety.

Unfortunately for them, there is a turncoat in their midst.
