Mohale Mashigo is an award winning singer-songwriter and the author of the novel The Yearning and Intruders, a collection of short stories. She writes for the South African comic book series Kwezi and recently contributed to Marvel's Marvel Voices: Legacy #1.

This episode of Listen To Your Footsteps is a little different and was a little difficult to put together. Wandi 'DJ1D' Nzimande had many hats that he wore with aplomb, navigating them seamlessly - father, husband, friend, mentor, founder of Loxion Kulcha, television executive, deejay, broadcaster, brand strategist, marketer, content producer, etc. I was fortunate enough to call him friend. Sadly, he passed away in January 2021.

This episode is a conversation I had with Wandi in March 2020. It was at a restaurant in Johannesburg, Blaque Bistro, in front of a small, intimate audience. The event was an experiment. What was to be the start of a series, which Wandi was helping me on. As an afterthought, I pressed record on my phone, which was on a table between us. That recording is this episode.

We talked about Wandi's journey from Soweto to establishing the first South African streetwear brand, heading up and building Soweto TV, and everything in-between.

Donovan Goliath is primarily known as a comedian but has been an artist, a graphic designer, an art director, amongst other labels. In his own way, he defies labels, even when the outside world seeks to define him too narrowly.

Welcome to the Listen to your Footsteps podcast. My name is Kojo Baffoe. Over the last twenty-plus years, I have worked in a variety of industries with the last fifteen or so being in the media industry in South Africa, as a TV researcher and producer, editor of three magazines, and host of a radio talk show. I am a writer, storyteller, content strategist and author of the book Listen To Your Footsteps, a collection of essays, reflections and poems focused particularly on fatherhood, being raised by my father, identity and loss. 

The Listen To Your Footsteps podcast is an extension of my journey to date and explores art, culture, design, business and life from an African perspective. My guest for the first show is Papama Mtwisha, an old friend whose journey I have been fortunate enough to have a front row seat on. She is a fashion designer and owner of two growing brands, Butter Pudding and Africa Your Time Is Now.

In this episode, I have a conversation with Papama about her journey, bucking the family trend by going into fashion, launching and building a business, being a mother and an African.
