    Great plot!
What an adventure this was with Stormy! I had my suspicions but the plot made me wonder. I like the quirky way Stormy gets involved in mysteries and her laid-back manner of solving them. Onward to #5!
    Good
Interesting story. So far none are as good as the first but they are different enough to keep from being obvious with enough red herrings. Good story.
    One Star
not nearly as good as previous
    A Real Page Turner!
Stormy Day, despite her name, is really a breath of fresh air! She is smart, observant, very competent, but most of all has a great sense of humor. I just love her interactions with her new boyfriend, Logan (aka: Dr. Feelgreat!) & Officer Dimples (aka Kyle)!!! The story was well written & has just enough suspense & surprises for a cozy mystery. I guess it can be read by itself but you get so much more if you read the entire series.
    Great storylines and fun characters!
I am thoroughly enjoying this Stormy Day series! Like a box of good chocolates, I can't wait to select and savor next one. Every book is a truly fun read!

    Title: The Second Best Time
Subtitle: The Charlie Series, Book 3
    Author: Lisa April Smith
    Narrator: Amy Landon
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 9 hrs and 54 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 05-03-16
    Publisher: Blackstone Audio, Inc.
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 1 votes
Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Modern Detective
    Publisher's Summary:
The title for The Second Best Time comes from a Chinese proverb: "The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now." And it suits a story of three people at a crossroads in their lives: Jack Caine (aka Jack Morgan), former lothario and sometime con man, now the owner of a successful gallery in the UK; his daughter Charlie (Charlotte) Morgan Francesco, 32 and an art consultant; and new to the series, Kat (Kathleen O'Connor Shironsky), a 24-year-old street-smart, unemployed bookkeeper.
Dying of cancer and worried about his immortal soul, that rascal Jack confesses his long list of sins to the Reverend Nigel. The stunned but sympathetic clergyman convinces Jack that his most heinous sin was perpetrated on his daughters, who believe that he committed suicide. Both men agree that seeing their father suddenly reappear, only to die a painful death shortly after, would cause additional harm.
Filled with guilt and remorse, Jack swears to see to it that his beloved daughters are content, safe, and protected, but anonymously. Typical of Jack, the plan he hatches is as convoluted and ingenious as it is entertaining. Seated on a park bench, struggling to find the courage to face social condemnation by leaving a miserable marriage to a husband with multiple sclerosis, Charlie meets Kat, whose boss was just arrested by the FBI for tax evasion. But losing her job is the least of Kat's problems. Savings account emptied, three months behind on the rent, her husband has mysteriously disappeared. The mismatched pair join forces to overcome adversity and fight crime with brains, grit, and humor. And yes, along the way, some attractive gentlemen help provide the sizzle.

Can it get any better than this?
The Second Best Time was great. I absolutely loved it. I found it difficult to put the book down as I wandered in and out of each ones lives. Exceeding Expectations and Paradise Misplaced were also extremely entertaining. So much so that I will have to re-read them in anticipation of hopefully Charlie Series #4??? They keep getting better and better.
    A short story
I thought this would be the best of the trilogy . My mistake . It was the worst! And just when it became interesting, it was over!
The historical research is excellent! The characters come alive and are very intriguing
This is a gem of a work of fiction! The historical research is excellent! The characters come alive and are very intriguing. At times they are heroic. Other times not so
heroic, but at all times interesting and complex.I found it extremely hard to put this book down!I highly recommend it!
    Great novel!
I enjoy reading Lisa's novels. They are well researched, and the writing is excellent. Her characters are very believeable, and well rounded.

    Good but graphic!
This was a very professional sounding audiobook and I mean that in a good way. It went much further into graphic and gross details than I am comfortable with, though. The set up was very interesting with the paranormal element being believable (at least for me) and I am always a fan of mysteries that don't have romance as the glue. It was predictable but perhaps it should have been since it's about a clairvoyant kid.
I am pretty sure I would listen to another by this author and it would not be quite so jarring since I could be more prepared for the gore. It definitely held my interest and I eagerly went back to it even though I was grossed out and more than a little disturbed by some of the visions.
The narrator was spot on. Perfect. She really gave the novel a professional sound.
I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review.
    Seeing evil
What was one of the most memorable moments of Seeing Evil?
This novel is a mystery with a psychic twist that had me interested. It may even be considered as part of the horror genre. Monsters come in all shapes and sizes and the human kind are the worst. Seeing Evil has its share of evil of the two legged kind.Very good story
I received a free copy by Audiobook Boom
    Great teen characters, meh narration
Seeing Evil is a book about the evil human beings inflict on one another. Its more thriller than horror but has a few disturbing scenes that fall more into the horror realm.
Michael was tragically orphaned as a young boy. Now hes a teen living with foster parents and dealing with the typical cruelties and horrors of high school. Hes quiet, keeps his head down and minds his own business but one day he finds himself the target of one of the biggest bullies in the school. This scene is horrifying and too well written, if you ask me. I felt like I was in that bathroom stall with unfortunate Michael and, eww, I did not want to be there! Later Michael has a dark and dire vision that eventually comes true. He confides in his police detective friend, Samantha, and she later uses this information to guide her in an investigation.
And this is where I had a problem. The writing is good and the teen characters are amazingly well drawn. You really feel for them. But I would be lying if I didnt admit that Samantha using Michael, pretty much without his ok, to help her catch a killer bothered the hell out of me. This poor kid had already lived through hell and here she was forcing him to see things he should never have to see. Once? Okay, I get it.

the reading interesting. I hope Ms. Duncan is working on the next one!

A trip to London turns deadly...until a cat helps foil a nearly purrfect crime.
Larkin's Luxury Tours Number 79 is a traveler's nightmare. The problems started in Zurich, when one of the group died under mysterious circumstances. Now the remaining tour members have landed in London, tight lipped, fearful, and ready to ask for their money back. It's up to Doug Perkins of PR firm Perkins and Tate to restore their spirits.
Naturally, for the restoration of spirits Doug arranges a pub crawl, and with the help of his cat, Pandora, he's jollying them back into being happy campers (at the best hotels, of course). Then foul play strikes again. Now Doug, assisted by Pandora's feline ability to smell a rat, needs to find out which tourist hides a preference for bed, breakfast, and murder.

    cat mystery
An enjoyable story by an author I like. Any one who likes cozy mysteries will enjoy the story. Interesting charcters and location
    Always Enjoyable
This book is typical Marian Babson, although a little lighter weight than normal. There are, as usual, plenty of characters to sort out BUT unlike most of her other books, most of them stay in the background or fade quickly into the background. That was a little disappointing to me but I still enjoyed the antics of Doug Perkins (of Perkins & Tate, a PR firm) and his cat Pandora. Pandora is a treat and, in this book, has as much personality as any of the characters.
The mystery revolves around the death of a member of an American tour group working its way through Europe and now in London. The tour company is a client of the PR firm and Doug is called upon to sooth the moods of the remaining members of the tour. The mystery is secondary to the descriptions of the dynamics of the tour group but it was fun to figure out who the culprit was and the mystery is wrapped up rather quickly and neatly.
If you are a fan of Babson's, add this to your list to read. If not, don't start with this one because it does not do justice to her usual higher standards.

    Great murder mystery
Was easy to read and hooked you from the beginning. I really don't care for really descriptive murder scenes and this gave you the picture of what happened without going into gory details. The characters were likable and believable. Loved crusty ole' Mucho Love. Never expected who the real murderer would be and glad that the guy accused of murder really was innocent. Shane had enough doubt in his guilt that I was glad he was right.
It reads fast and was thoroughly enjoyable. I am a big fan of the Bill Travis series and even though this was a little different from them I still really enjoyed it. I am not a literary critic by no means and all I want to be is entertained by a great story and George Wier always delivers!!!!!
A good story, but the author takes some short cuts
A good story, but the author takes some short cuts. He does not develop character's relationships in a natural manner. Maybe that's due to the shortness of the page count. But, when he said the Air Force had Chief Petty Officers that was when I knew he had not done his research. If you are looking for some good story then this it. Just don't expect an indepth story.
he has a detective that should be the replacement on the sad day that Bill Travis (of The Bill Travis Mysteries) ...
The rot that lies beneath the veneer of small-town friendliness is George Wierâs fodder in his masterful Murder In Elysium. In Shane Robeling, he has a detective that should be the replacement on the sad day that Bill Travis (of The Bill Travis Mysteries) finally has his last adventure. With enough clues to point to any and everyone, this mystery will keep you guessing until the final chilling reveal.
Shane, Shane, come back Shane...Hoping for a sequel.
Loved it...Mister Wier took me down a road that twisted and turned and kept me guessing throughout. This soon to be classic filled me wonder as I rode along with Shane putting the pieces together. You can't go wrong with this Wier mystery. A page turner.
    Good read
Like the previous stories I've read by this author, there are a few mistakes that the editor or proofreader(s) didn't catch. Good writing though, good storyline. George does a nice job of describing a place so that I can see it in my mind's eye; describes his characters so well I feel I'd know them if I saw them. There's aren't frequent meanderings into details that aren't necessary to the story

    Cute story, bad narration
I enjoyed reading more than listening to this book. The story was cute, the characters well developed and unique. However, the narrator was annoying. Her Southern accent was authentic and believable, but the inflection rose at the end of almost every sentence. Often, the other characters' voices sounded like she was reading from a script. I hate to give poor ratings, but I found that I couldn't enjoy the narration because of this. I gave an overall three star rating because the book itself was a nice story.
    Wonderful!
Worth your time to read or listen. Sweet and funny. I listened on audible - chairing
    Worst Narrator Ever
I love quirky little books about southern women, but this was drudgery. The story isn't bad - the narrator is horrible. I just don't understand how this matchup was ever made. It took me about three times as long as it should have to get through this book.
    Accent too much for me!
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
This may be an excellent book but I was unable to listen to it. The accent was just too much!

The first crime scene was the most disturbing. From the looks of it, the killer had dipped their fingers in the victim's blood and used it to write in dark red on the white wallpaper. Although the letters were smeared and uneven, Detective Niklas Steg had no trouble making out the message: "Reap the storm."
Now, with the help of Private Detective Sabrina Lampe, Steg must hunt down a terrifying serial killer dead set on delivering a particularly gruesome form of justice on men with a history of violence against women. Before each slaughter, the murderer sends a note to the intended victim that simply says, "Sow the wind...." When an innocent man receives the warning, Steg and Lampe race to crack the case before he, too, meets a brutal end.

    Pretty good murder mystery...
This is a pretty good book and I am actually a little surprised there are so few ratings for it. It starts out with a dominating, abusive husband coming home from work on a Friday night. He's allowed his wife to go away for the weekend but when he walks into his home he finds a woman he thinks is his wife. She's wearing a black hood that he had bought to be used on her along with a riding crop. Devices he uses to torture her with along with handcuffs and more. She has him strip down and then shoots him. The woman is not his wife and so the murders begin. Abusive husbands beware. But what happens when a nice guy gets involved with an unstable woman who does not want her relationship to end but he does. What if she starts spreading lies about him being abusive and what if the vigilante serial killer gets involved?
Good book, very suspenseful and believable. I definitely Recommend it.
Peter Berkrot does a super job narrating.
