    A little bit predictable
Some of the turns in this story are a bit predictable and/or unrealistic. The moment the lead character gets herself in another dangerous situation was one of the weakest points in the story as it was so painfully obvious that something wasn't right. Still enjoyed the book for light entertainment.
The narrator is really pleasant and the way she portrays the different characters is enjoyable.
Overall not a must read but I will likely listen to the next story to see if the author comes up with a differently build strategy.
Kristina Mahlo investigiert im zweiten Fall
If you could sum up Die Stimme des Vergessens (Kristina Mahlo 2) in three words, what would they be?
    total neue Geschichte
Who was your favorite character and why?
    Kristina weil sie nie aufgiebt
    Which scene was your favorite?
der Anruf am frühen Morgen der Simon überhöhrt
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
wenn Sarah als Kind niemand im Haus findet der ihrer Schwester zu Hilfe kommt
    Any additional comments?
ganz begeistert von Vanida Karun, aber besonders von der Autorin, die mit Kristina Mahlo eine interessante Frau geschaffen hat die hoffentlich noch viele Nachlassfäffe zu lösen hat

A GREAT book with an underwhelming ending..
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Yes. I've read/ listened to seven books written by this author. Simon Vance is one of my favorite performers; and was the reason that I started to listen to Chris Ewan.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The story moved along very well; and it was not too predictable. I was a little disappointed in the the ending. I feel that most authors write a great book; but few know how to gracefully and eloquently close. All of Chris Ewan's "Good Thief Guides" ended in a satisfying way; and I would have preferred a different ending to this one. Having said that, I don't want to give the impression that the book is, in any way, flawed. It's certainly not! It held my interest and developed characters very well.
Have you listened to any of Simon Vances other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have yet to listen to a sub par performance by this narrator. His "American" male character voice in DEAD LINE was a little reminiscent of the American character voice of all of the Patrick O'Brian Jack Aubry books. I found it amusing to think that a US Navy Captain from 1812 was time-transported to modern day Provence..
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
    Yes.
    Any additional comments?
I will certainly look for more books by Chris Ewan; and listen to them with enthusiasm..
    Aimless
Excellent narrator, well written, but didn't go anywhere. Very disappointed in how the plot progressed.
    OK until the end
I've listened to most of Chris Ewan's novels on Audible and enjoyed them all. This was my least favorite, though. Once I got into the story (which took longer than usual) it wasn't bad. There are some interesting and clever twists in the story. The ending though was disappointing. It was maybe clever or ironic, but as a reader it was not satisfying .
Simon Vance as usual is an excellent narrator. Little bitty nit picking though - he mispronounces some of the French names. Often, the final S isn't pronounced in French words, but in Canal Plus and Cassis, it is. Also, the R isn't pronounced in the name Xavier. The French say Zavee-ay.

Would you be willing to try another one of Denice Stradlings performances?
    Not a chance

The book is a very well written story, but the narration is horrible. Most of the voices are clippy and sounds like you're listening to text to speech software. It's incredibly bad.

    Cute Cozy
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
If the friend likes light mystery reading, yes, strong recommendation.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Never Con a Corgi?
    It would mean spoilers.
Which character as performed by Gabrielle de Cuir was your favorite?
The main character's mom. She did a very Elaine Strich attitude, and it was very funny.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    Yes, in fact I did.
    Any additional comments?
This is no Agatha Christie, but I found it amusing and it kept my interest. The reader improved the writing a lot; there was some repetition and a lot of "eyebrow" raising, but overall it was fun. Especially, if you like doggies and Corgis!

    Connects & Twisted Hearts
The book was enjoyable until the supernatural part was reached. I did not enjoy the "gold finding" machine @ all. Just a little too far out for me. The first book in this series was great, the second book just slightly less, this Third book was down from 1 & 2. I am going to read the 4th book and hope it brings back more realistic happenings that are more believable. If not I will stop reading this series. When I read mystery and detective stories I do not care for supernatural parts that seem to me to be far fetched.
    Ward
    fine for less than $3
I read the first three of the Bill Travis series- really a decent and only slightly wooden set of characters, fine for less than $3, but no more. Not at all in the Lee Childs/Michael Connelly, or even Max Allan Collins class. The relationship with Julie Simmons was nice at first, turns into total flatness by book 3 (taking completely away any possible side story line or suspense about the lead character's social and romantic life), and there is nothing with which to replace it except improbable plot elements. You can only milk Texas for so long.
Another sure hit, not to be missed, in the Bill Travis Series
George Wier's "Longnecks & Twisted Hearts" is the third in the series of The Bill Travis Mysteries and the follow-up to "The Last Call" and "Capitol Offense". In "Longnecks & Twisted Hearts" Bill finds himself going back home, to his childhood hometown, to bury his once best friend. Upon reaching town limits he is met by a police officer wanting to escort him out of town before seeing the widow or attending the funeral. He was given a nice, friendly warning, but of course by now Bill's interests are really peaked. If he thought things were a bit strange with the widow's phone call, the police warning him off and escorting him out of town before he has a chance to see anyone, well now Bill has to stay and figure things out for himself. And boy does he ever get himself entangled in a lot of strange stuff along the way.
If you enjoyed "The Last Call" or "Capitol Offense" then you will really enjoy going on another thrill ride with Bill Travis. Bill Travis is just an ordinary guy who invests money for a living, yet he finds himself in some very strange situations. Pick up your copy today and take this journey home with Bill, you will not be disappointed and you will be thoroughly entertained.
    Ok
Mystery part was good. Main character is a little too "super" human for my taste. Seems like author lets you in on who this character is and what he's doing to solve murder mystery, then all of a sudden he knows all, saves everyone and wins in the end.

    "Believable Fiction"
Mike's greatest talent is his ability to write fiction that doesn't feel like fiction. His new book "Temptation Town" brings the Jack Barnett character to life and makes him seem like he's a guy you actually know.! To me, getting inside the players' heads and their internal dialogues makes reading Mike Dennis intriguing. The current story is a must read for anyone who likes their fiction told in a style which is believable.!

It's only the beginning of a novel
I didn't realize when I got this that it was being sold as a "novelette," and was quite surprised when I suddenly got to the end--but it isn't really an end. The plot is only minimally resolved--frankly, it ends where most novels are just getting started. The protagonist/narrator could be interesting as a character, but the author has him pack up shop too soon to really get a sense of who he is.
I enjoyed Dennis's first novel of the series set in Key West, so I thought I'd try this--but the little bit here gives me no interest in reading more of this Las Vegas Series.
    Runs out of steam
Nourish story about an ex-PI tracking down a wayward girl in Vegas. Pretty well-written, in a kind of Raymond Chandler style, but the girl character isn't developed at all, and she could have been juicy. The ending is abrupt and careless, as if the author ran out of time.
Great book if you like your books 50 pages long.
    I loved the characters.
But I read it in an hour.
Beware, this is not a book, it's a short story.
I'm glad I paid zilch. Any more and I'd be pissed.
Maybe he'll put out a real book.
    Temptation Town
It was just a short story. I thought it was a novel; could have been. The way it ended left a whole lot of places or ways to go.

    Perfect narration for great story
I had purchased and read Diary of a Small Fish last year. The writing is excellent and I enjoyed the humor and legal wrangling. Since it was written in the first person voice of the main character, Paul Forte, I had a little difficulty, as a female reader, staying in the story.
Nonetheless, when the author offered the audio book on Goodreads I was anxious to give it another go. I am so glad I did as the narration by Keith Sellon-Wright is absolutely perfect for the main character. Mr. Sellon-Wright also did a superb job of conveying the character when he narrated female character dialogue.
Small Fish is a very enjoyable book and the Audible version takes the story to a whole new level. Kindle version purchased and Audible version received from the author. My opinion is my own.
    Entertaining, Funny and Smart
Would you consider the audio edition of Diary of a Small Fish to be better than the print version?
It's so well written. I decided to read this book after coming across reviews on Goodreads which referred to the author's big voice and called Morin a funny Robert Heinlein. The first comment is true and the second debatable, but I did enjoy this book. The audible performance is as engaging and entertaining as the novel: Sellon-Wright was a good choice for narrator and it was easy to visualize.
Who was your favorite character and why?
My favorite character was Paul Forte, the like-able hero with a dry wit and a passion for golf. It was quite a way into the story before I realized he was a republican and Im not sure why it surprised me. I think democrats and republicans alike would enjoy this story. This story wouldn't have worked without Bernard Kilroy who plays the foil to the Paul's easy-going nature. He tries to use Paul as political fodder to forward his own career. But no plot spoilers here. ( :
What about Keith Sellon-Wrights performance did you like?
It was a natural voice, easy to listen to, and the actor played all the characters well.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
There are many moving, funny and sensual moments. It made me laugh often and increased my appreciation for golf. ( : The insight into the relationship between lobbyists and politicians was also an eye opener.
    Any additional comments?
I'll be eager to read anything else Morin has to write. His background in law serves him well as a novelist, but he has a way with words that only a gifted writer could.
