बचपन से ही मेरा ध्वनि संसार जिन चीजों से निर्मित हुआ उनमें ये भजन कीर्तन भी हैं।

आज भी जहां रहता हूँ उस घर के पड़ोस में अक्सर महिलाएं जुटकर दो चार घंटों के लिए माहौल गुलज़ार कर देती हैं। अलग अलग उम्रों की औरतें, बालियां बिना किसी खुशफहमी के कि वो गायिकाएं हैं, बिंदास ढंग से गाती हैं, जोश कुछ बढ़ जाए तो खांसी और खखारने की आवाज़ें भी इस संगीत संध्या का अंग बन जाती हैं। जिस दिन भी घर के बाहर बीस बाइस छोटी बड़ी रंग बिरंगी चप्पलें उतरी हुई देखता हूँ अपने रोविंग माइक्रोफोन की बत्तियां चमका कर तैयार हो जाता हूँ।

महिलाओं के एकरस और कठिन परिश्रम से भरे जीवन में ऐसे मौके आपसदारी को ज़िंदा रखने और हँसी ठिठोली के बाद अगले जीवन संघर्ष में रम जाने के बहाने हैं। चाहिए क्या बस एक दो ढोलक, मजीरे और काम चलाऊ सुरीली या कभी बेसुरी उत्साही साथिनें। गाये जाने वाले शब्द कहाँ कहाँ से जन्मे और बदलते बिगड़ते उनमें फिल्मों, कव्वालियों, नातों और लोकस्मृतियों के रंग घुले, उन्हें क्या करना इससे। यह काम तो विश्वविद्यालयों के मनहूस शोधाचार्य और नौकरीआतुर शोधार्थी करेंगे।

बहरहाल आइये और मेरे साथ सुनिए मेरे पड़ोस की ऐसी ही एक रिकॉर्डिंग जो 2014 की है।

Ismat Chughtai (21 August 1915 – 24 October 1991) was an Indian Urdu novelist, short story writer, liberal humanist and filmmaker. Beginning in the 1930s, she wrote extensively on themes including female sexuality and femininity, middle-class gentility, and class conflict, often from a Marxist perspective. With a style characterised by literary realism, Chughtai established herself as a significant voice in the Urdu literature of the twentieth century, and in 1976 was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India.
