Before listening to any other episodes here (provided they actually exist), listen to this one. Or don't! But the rest might make a lot more sense if you do.
It wouldn't be much of a ban without cops around to enforce it, would it?
This is another deliberate, shambling step toward a return to Jim Crow.
The minimum wage is the tide that raises all boats....unless we leave it at the wage slavery rate it currently sits at.
And if paying a living wage will cause your busines fail, then F*** YOUR BUSINESS. It deserves to go under.
The Trump faction is celebrating as we disarm ourselves of our only effective weapon against them.
Maybe we deserve to lose if this how we treat those who put it all on the line to save us from another four years of Trump.
I truly admire Bill Maher. Even when I disagree with him, it's clear that his intentions are good and that it's just a matter of perspective. That being said off the top of my head, I can't think of many occasions when I have disagreed with him. I'm not sure I even disagree with him this time, I just wish that when people condemn social justice Warriors and cancel culture, they would at least make the effort to explore why these things exist, because they were not created in a vacuum.
Some things are negotiable, such as the funding of social programs and Public Works projects, but other matters are fundamental facts of the universe. These things are not political. These things are not partisan. These things are not matters of opinion. This is truly a come-to-jesus moment for the Republican Party because whether or not they will continue to be irrelevant to the political process and the political conversation in this country depends on whether they can find the strength and rationality to accept these fundamental facts of the world we live in.
The widely held belief that Trump supporters are under the influence of false narratives served up to them by white supremacist news sources like Fox News is actually false...for the most part. While some of them do believe the crazier conspiracy theories to emerge over the past few years, the vast majority of them are aware of reality. The false narratives they are actually following are far older, far more fundamental, and far darker than QAnon could ever be.
Trumpers characterize trans people in sports as guys in wings who pretend to be girls so they can beat up on them.
The fact is that men's sports are where the highest levels of both competition and compensation are and trans people are unfairly locked out of these opportunities.
But the most offensive thing about this point of view is that it implies that trans people come out as trans on a whim or to gain some kind of advantage, completely ignoring the challenges and often physical danger trans people face when they come out.
Maybe Trump supporters get it, maybe they don't, but they certainly never fail to take the most hateful, disingenuous, dishonest position about every issue that involves trans people or LGBTQ rights and protections.
My Martin Luther King Day episode. Just, a little late.
Before we can make meaningful progress in terms of pursuing true racial Justice in America, we first need to educate ourselves in the true black history of America. We all need to understand how the atrocities that have been committed from the end of the Civil War to the present day continue to affect black communities and contribute to the condition those communities are in today.
The problems that affect black communities and black people did not manifest in a vacuum. It's time to stop hiding from the fact that these problems are the product of what has been continuously done to them since we first brought them here as property.
