Hello crumbunity! Today, we chat all about memes and the power of humour in wars and conflict (yes we are looking at you Ukraine twitter). While the war is devastating, it sparked some interesting convo about the use of memes in communist countries and how historically, people have used them as a tool of resistance or just political shit stirring. We define memes to punch-up as they can be made by your average nerdy kid on an ipod touch, which is different from propganda that punches down. From soldiers riding penises, to kermit the frog and tiktok humour, we touch the surface of the humanising power of comedy and its use as a coping mechanism. PLUS we introduce our new segment... and it's lit.

This week, Met and Til dive into the weird and wonderful world of Euphoria, particularly representations of Cassie, Cal and bodies in general! Don’t worry if youre late to the Euophoria train, as we interrogate why women in Hollywood perform three times more nude scenes than male actors and the reactions they have received over the years. With a bit of historical context, we explore complexities with intentions, culture and age of actors who are scripted to show their peepees and vajayjays. We chat about sexy lamps and intimacy coordinators such as Ita O'Brien and the super important work they do for equality and representation in film. Of course, we provide some of our most peculiar shameless plugs yet and a secret code word for chatting about all things crumby! If you listen, you're our valentines xoxo

WELCOME BACK CRUMBLES!!! We have missed you and can't wait to hear your thoughts and plugs in season 2! It seems a summer holiday has got us in the mood for talking about alcohol and its powerful role in aussie culture. We chat about alcohol's historical context, the anthropology of pub culture and its political implications. Scatted with a few of our own little anecdotes, we explore rituals and traditions of drinking. We chat to some of our sober friends and discuss the push against their choices and unpack why this happens. Be prepared for a few epiphanies, moments of reflection and realisations that drinking a humble beer might be influenced by Australia's nationalist project. Thankyou crumbunity for coming with us this far, follow us on the @littlecrumbspodcast socials to join the convo!!

In the last episode for the year, Till & Met have an extra long session of our shameless plugs followed by chats about the myth of the ‘lone genius’ and why we should embrace artistic collaborations. We discuss how the word genius turned from noun to adjective in the Enlightenment period and like a lot of things we’ve discussed on the pod, creativity has become very individualized. We reference some of the most interesting historical musical zeitgeists, such as Andy Warhol’s factory in 1960s NYC, and Brisbane’s Punk Rock movement in the late 20th century. See ya next year crumbunity!!
Musical homework
Leonard Cohen - Chelsea Hotel No. 2
Patti Smith - When Doves Cry
Patti Smith - Just Kids (memoir)
Rewind with Steven Bell - An Oral History of Regurgitator

In our first episode discussing gender theory, Met & Til call on our friend Mimi to tackle the question 'is femininity an issue for feminism'. We discuss the idea of gender performativity, and how women alter their physical selves to become closer to the feminine ideal. We also look at how capitalism profits from the gender binary, with the neverending onslaught of products to achieve these standards. We look at how the celebration of hyper-femininity can be harmful to women by catering to male attention & validation (rofl), whilst also not wanting to undermine the agency of women and girls. EEK! It's tough. We look at the debate within feminism between 'natural' and 'difference' feminism and hopefully shed some light on why the movement has become so complex and contradicting. It's an absolutely massive episode and we can't wait to hear your thoughts. Boys, don't be nervous, we think you'll find some really interesting crumbs in here!!!
We give a definition of patriarchy and 'natural and difference' feminism is at 40:30.
