  • Storytime: My Favorite Sport in Mandarin 🏊S0E29【CHN】我最喜欢的体育运动

🏃‍♀️ I used to hate P.E. class—especially those awful 800-meter runs. But guess what? Now I actually enjoy working out (well, sometimes). In this episode, I’ll tell you about my favorite sport, why I love it, and how I finally made peace with exercise. 🏊‍♀️
You'll also learn how to talk about sports in Mandarin: useful verbs, common nouns, and how to say what you like (or really don’t like 😅).
✨ Key vocabulary and grammar are listed below—feel free to check before or after listening!

    Full Transcript:

    今天想跟你聊聊一个很生活、但也很有意思的话题:体育运动。
体育运动 – sports and physical activities

    说实话,我小时候一点也不喜欢运动。尤其是学校的体育课。那时候每年都要测800米跑步,每次听到这个数字,我都头皮发麻。
    体育课 – P.E. class
头皮发麻 – to feel nervous/scared (literally "scalp tingles")

    为了不跑步,我甚至装过肚子疼,当然,老师一点也不相信我。但奇怪的是,长大之后,我对运动的看法完全变了。
    装 – to pretend
    肚子疼 – stomachache
    看法 – opinion/view

    我开始明白,运动其实不是“被迫完成”的任务,而是我们给自己的一段时间,让身体动起来,让脑子停一停。
    被迫完成 – forced to finish
    动起来 – get moving
脑子停一停 – let the brain take a break

    尤其是工作压力大的时候,去运动一下,不但能让你睡得更好,也能把那些乱七八糟的情绪清理一下。
    压力大 – under pressure
乱七八糟 – messy, all over the place
    情绪 – emotions/mood
清理 – to clean out / clear up

    在所有运动里,我最喜欢的就是——游泳。
    游泳 – swimming

    我喜欢游泳,是因为它非常安静。你在水里听不到别人的声音,也不会被打扰,只能听到自己的呼吸。
    打扰 – to disturb
    呼吸 – breathing

    你不用说话,也不用社交。对我来说,这是一种非常特别的自由。每次游完,我都觉得自己换了一个脑袋,整个人清爽得不得了。
    社交 – to socialize
    自由 – freedom
    清爽 – refreshed
    不得了 – extremely

    除了游泳,我还喜欢打羽毛球。这个运动特别适合两三个朋友一起玩,不用很专业,只要挥拍、跑动,就已经很好玩了。
    打羽毛球 – play badminton
    挥拍 – swing the racket
    跑动 – to move around

    而且,打羽毛球的时候可以一边聊天,一边出汗,是一种很轻松的社交运动。
    出汗 – to sweat
    轻松 – relaxed / easygoing

    现在越来越多的人开始去健身房,也有很多人喜欢跑步。身边有个朋友特别厉害,每年都跑马拉松,我真的是佩服得五体投地。
    健身房 – gym
    马拉松 – marathon
    佩服 – to admire
五体投地 – with great admiration (literally: throw oneself on the ground in respect)

    我试过跑步,但实在坚持不了,太枯燥了。不过我也慢慢学会了一件事:每个人适合的运动方式都不一样,关键是你要找到那个你愿意一直做下去的项目。
    坚持 – to persist
    枯燥 – boring
    适合 – suitable
    项目 – (activity) program

    运动这件事,说简单也简单,说难也难。最难的是:坚持。我们都知道运动对身体好,也都想变健康、变有精神,可是真正能坚持每周锻炼的人,并不多。
锻炼 – to work out / exercise regularly
    有精神 – energetic

    我有时候也会偷懒,一连好几个星期不运动。但只要重新开始,比如去游一次泳,或者去打一场球,我又会想起:原来运动带给我的,不只是健康,还有一种“啊,我终于做点好事给自己了”的感觉。
    偷懒 – to slack off
    一连 – in a row
    带给 – to bring to
    好事 – good thing

    我不知道你喜不喜欢运动,也许你跟我一样,小时候讨厌体育课,现在却慢慢开始理解它的重要。也许你一直都很喜欢某种运动,不管怎样,我希望你能找到那个让你动起来、开心起来的方式。
    讨厌 – to dislike
    理解 – to understand
    方式 – method, way

This is the hottest trend right now — 搭子 means a “buddy” for a specific thing.
Think of it like your partner-in-crime, but for one very specific activity.

    • 饭搭子 – your eating buddy
    • 酒搭子 – drinking buddy
    • 学习搭子 – study buddy

    Or

    “我们是发疯搭子,一起emo一起笑。”
We’re chaos buddies — we cry and laugh together.

    精 (jīng) – A Loving Roast

Another slang trend: use “精” to tease your friends (with love).
It’s like calling someone a little goblin or a drama queen — but make it Chinese.

    • 恋爱脑精 – your friend who’s always falling in love
    • 内耗精 – the one who overthinks everything
    • 社恐精 – your socially anxious introvert
    • 发疯精 – your drama king/queen with chaotic energy

Used in group chats or captions like:

    “我和我的内耗精搭子今天又在emo。”
My overthinking buddy and I are being emo again today.

    奶茶人 / emo人 / 叠叠乐人

You can also just add “人” to describe someone:

    • 奶茶人 – always drinking milk tea
    • emo人 – always feeling emotional
    • 叠叠乐人 – stacking sadness like Jenga blocks (this one’s tragic but Gen-Z hilarious)

It’s creative, poetic, and very meme-able.

So if you really want to sound like a native?
Stop saying "朋友" all the time — call your friend your 饭搭子, your 发疯精, or your 奶茶人.

    Story Transcript:
