This week’s episode comes from a recent LinkedIn newsletter I wrote, and it got such a great response that I wanted to share it with all of you here!
Without a doubt, one of the biggest things holding people back from living is fear.
Fear freezes a person. It throws us back into a state of second-guessing ourselves. We don’t take action steps out of fear. What if something happens? What if I don’t make the right choice?
What if…what if…what if…
I’ve had a lot of practice with fear.
Fear of rejection. Fear of failure. Fear of divorce. Fear of being alone. Fear of being too much. Fear of being too little. Fear of writing. Fear of speaking… And here I am.
What’s the opposite of not living? Living with regret.
OUCH.
I will not leave this earth with regret.
You see, I view fear as a practice. It’s a practice of choosing ourselves over self-doubts, limiting beliefs, and others’ stories and patterns that we have carried.
Sure, fear can protect you from harm and give you an inclination that “something is not right.” And yet, if addressed correctly, it can teach you more about yourself than you ever imagined.
For example, I never imagined myself standing on a TEDx stage, speaking about forgiveness. That’s a story I in this episode.
It’s pretty funny, actually. I didn’t know that I was doing a TEDx talk. It scared the hell out of me when I found out that I was. And, what was my alternative? There wasn’t an alternative. I just did it.
In this episode, I share a few of my (not-so-secret) secrets to the art of fear. Let’s go!

This week’s episode comes straight from my own personal experience.
Often when you’ve walked through trauma, people are curious and, frankly, not always tactful or sensitive when it comes to questions they ask.
When other people want to really dive in and find the details, it can sometimes be very painful on this side when you've been victimized, and it can bring up an awful lot of stuff for us.
Your words matter.
Our words matter.
So look at each other with how we would want to be treated in this situation ..
What questions would we want to be asked or not asked?
This is good. I'm just gonna state it, like, this is good. Go grab your journals.
Let’s go!

Growing up, Cam dealt with academic and social challenges. Bullying and anxiety led him to join a boxing gym to protect himself. Cam had tried out but was unable to make any teams he tried out for. Boxing was the only available choice since no team had to be made.
Cam quickly fell in love with the sport. He realized his potential to be great and dedicated every waking moment to be the best boxer possible. Cam's mental toughness served as his superpower in the ring. Within 2 years in the sport in 2008, Cam won the National Championship claiming the title as the #1 Super Heavyweight boxer in the country.
Cam holds 4 Golden Gloves Championships, 6 US Championships, 3 PAL National Championships, 6 Ringside Championships, and 3 Olympic Trials. Cam holds the title as the Winningest Boxer in USA Boxing history. Cam's accomplishments are impressive but pale in comparison to the losses he has accumulated to reach this point. His story of resilience is so inspiring it's featured in the NETFLIX Original documentary COUNTERPUNCH.
During his motivational speeches he shares how he faced adversities in and outside of the ring with a Championship Mindset. Boxing is the greatest metaphor because everyone is fighting their own battles. This is what makes Cam's message so relatable.
"If you can fail without being discouraged, success becomes inevitable" is a quote that Cam lives by. Cam's secret to remaining resilient through ups and downs is keeping a positive mindset through practicing gratitude.
Cam has been featured in several print and internet publications and digital media outlets, including: ESPN, Sports Nation, ESPN’s Highly Questionable, Washington Post, Yahoo! Sports,Team USA, Bleacher Report, Rolling Stone, SB Nation, Kansas City Star, SI.com, ESPN Radio, Fox4KC, Mashable.com, Boxing News Online, The Sweet Science, news.com, Viva La Vegan, National Post, among many others.

In this week’s episode, I’m skipping over all the goal-setting and destination talk that we hear so much about in the New Year. Of course, those things have their place and importance in forward movement for us, but so often, we overlook the moments on our way to the final destination. I encourage you today to sit in the moments, big and small, and find the gratitude within yourself for these small moments. For in the small moments, our lives are created.
