Christie has been in the advertising business for nearly 2 decades, and has worked on some pretty big campaigns; including a Super Bowl spot! In 2009, At just 30 years old, Christie Bishop's life and career were turned upside down when her then-fiancee, Bryan, was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor and given just six months to live. Christie's life went from wedding celebrations and climbing the marketing corporate ladder to living the devastating realities of cancer caregiving and often feeling isolated from nearly everyone she knew.
At thirty years old, Bryan Bishop's life was right on track, too. Known to millions as "Bald Bryan," the sidekick and soundman on the record-setting podcast, The Adam Carolla Show, his radio career was taking off. He was newly engaged. Then, he and his fiancée Christie were delivered a crushing blow when he was diagnosed with a brain stem glioma—an inoperable brain tumor. Suddenly Bryan's promising future was transformed into a grueling schedule of radiation and chemotherapy while facing his mortality.
But through various treatments, Bryan has survived. He also wrote a book called Shrinkage: Manhood, Marriage, and the Tumor That Tried to Kill Me, a look at his journey of resilience. The author celebrates how treatment shrunk his tumor and gave him a new lease on life.
Christie and Bryan join Sara 14 years later and talk about the then prognosis of a very short window of life, and how 14 years later they are here, very much in love, and sharing their journey… a journey that is not over. They give us a glimpse of their lives now, their past and a peak at their next challenge, imbued with amazing spirits and hope.
They also talk about the tough times, how they don’t give up, how they work through every challenge, their soul mate love and the love of their family unit with their 6-year-old daughter, and how they all love each other so strongly and want to be together as much as they can, enjoying life.
In this episode, Part 1 of this interview, Sara talks with both Christie and Bryan. In Part 2, she will talk with just Christie (that will air on 8/30) about her ways of living with this ongoing dynamic of Bryan’s health. But most important is Bryan staying alive as more and more research and possibilities unfold.

In 2014, while teaching a physical education class in Germany, a baseball hit Jill in the side of her head, leaving her with a traumatic brain injury (TBI) that took 70% of her vision and nearly her life. Before the accident, she was an athlete, teacher and coach who ran on trails, cycled and competed in duathlons.
“After 26 months in hospitals, I felt lost,” “I emerged from the hospital a completely different person from how I arrived. I lost my eyesight, autonomy, car, apartment, work and residency permit. But one aspect of my life that remained the same was my passion and desire to be outside with Mother Nature.”
During her recovery in Denver, she could glimpse Colorado’s mountains from her hospital room, and knew she wanted to be able to escape into them.
This injury left the fiercely independent and athletic Jill, forced to relearn many of life’s tasks on her own, with impaired vision.
Jill’s long road to recovery and adventure spirit has miraculously brought her to peaks like K2 and she is the only Canadian female to summit 6 mountains above 8,000 meters.
She aims to break down the stigma associated with traumatic brain injury, vision loss, and eating disorders. We continue to witness Jill’s embracing the Human Will, the Passion that drives us, and the ability to live the life you want, even with excruciating obstacles.
Sara and Jill talk about Jill’s journey and her incredible courage. They talk about the Adventurous Spirit and the power of Mother Nature. You will hear about lessons learned and that Grief and Gratitude can walk hand in hand.

Sara is a proud mom to 3 wonderful young men, a business owner, a mountain and ocean adventurer, an artist, and a former teacher. She is a teacher of resilience, adventure, and living Boldly.
Ten years ago, Sara divorced from her husband of 17 years. She made a point everyday of getting outside, navigating through anger, pain, and grief while hiking 14,000 ft mountains and paddling 4-miles out to sea with whales and dolphins. She somatically healed her heart, mind, and body through nature while practicing the art of resiliency and forgiveness. As a result, she began finding the new Sara. A version of herself with a larger smile, a longer laugh, and a love for her present life. The gift of her trauma was finding her most important relationship: the one within herself.
Sara’s trauma became her purpose: to help others embrace their resiliency. Using a workable 3-part system, she guides individuals and teams to move from victim → survivor → thriver. In life. At work. In business.
In this solo episode, Sara talks about the part of the journey of being in the dating world in her 40’s and turning 50 in a couple of weeks.
She has learned a lot from each relationship, and shares her insights for all of you in this world of dating as well. Sara talks about what she has named “Falling Forward”, which doesn’t mean falling on your face, but rather taking with you all you’ve learned from each relationship, good or bad. Sara’s intention is to finally find that great life partner to share life with, but in the meantime, she is learning all she can from life right now.

Sara gets raw and real on the week of the anniversary of the death of her mother. We all go through major transitions that shake us to the core, and Sara speaks of her own divorce and the loss of her mom. She connects it to Identity and core values and the importance of making sure those are up to date and used as guidelines for maneuvering thru hard changes.
Sara talks of her Divorce as a major transition, and how she had to sit with her core values and make sure she named them and acted according to them. She suggests an every 6 month inventory of who you are, and what your values are. Her’s include integrity, love, honesty, communication, relationships, and health.
Sara chose to climb a mountain and watch a beautiful sunrise to honor her mom not being here and to honor herself as well. She needed to get quiet and meditate and be in nature to really go thru the grief. Sara suggests this as a tool to use: get quiet, whatever way works for you.
She takes us thru her Identity shifts now that she is the only woman in her family structure and how that changes her awareness of her role to her dad, her uncle, her kids, etc.
It’s an honest look at how we handle our identity thru shifts and changes, and how, if we do the work of identifying and re-evaluating, we work through it all in the most beautiful way.

Sara tells the story of her divorce and the recalibrating of life with her 3 boys.
How do you take on all of this responsibility- the major one being aware of what your children are going through and helping them emotionally go through the crisis? And equally important, is how do you go through your own grief while parenting your children.
Sara takes us on a very personal journey of how she figured ways to support her sons. And how she needed to call on others for help and support with her sons. We always think we should shoulder it all…but Sara realized she wasn’t able to do it all herself. She shared what was going on with teachers and coaches and asked for their help in being attentive to her children and alert her if anything unusual surfaced.
She also concentrated on each child finding their passion. And working out some of their issues via that passion. For her sons, it wound up being sports and ability to funnel anger, sadness, etc. through the sport and motivation to excel. It worked well for this family. Listen to the podcast and see how you can use this story to help your family through your individual story of hard times.

Brette Harrington is an American professional rock climber and alpinist based in Lake Tahoe, California and British Columbia, Canada. She was featured in the 2021 film The Alpinist alongside her late partner, Marc-André Leclerc., who died while climbing from an unexpected avalanche.
She is best known for the first free solo of the 760 meter (2,500-foot) Chiaro di Luna (5.11a) in Patagonia, for her development of new alpine climbing routes, and as the star of Brette, a Reel Rock Film Tourshort film.
Harrington's long-time partner, fellow alpinist Marc-André Leclerc, was confirmed dead after going missing during a climbing expedition near Juneau, Alaska in March 2018. Following Leclerc's death, Harrington devoted two years to working on alpine routes. She spent the first year processing Leclerc's death while she "was deep in the mountains". Harrington dedicated her May 2018 Mount Blane route to Leclerc, writing: "We have named it Life Compass for a number of reasons. Primarily because my life has taken such a sudden 180-degree turn since the loss of Marc in March and alpine climbing has been my guide. I dedicate this climb to my climbing mentor, partner, and love Marc-Andre who would probably solo it the following day if he was here."
Sara and Brette talk about mountain and rock climbing and it’s paradigm for life and it’s highs and lows, going forward boldly, doing what you love, learning to live with the peace and zen along with the tragedies and sacrifices. Brette continues, even after losing her great love, Marc-Andre to the mountains, and shares her passion that stays alive within her.
The Alpinist documentary can be seen on Netflix, Prime Video, Redbox., Vudu or Apple TV on your Roku device.

Sara talks about her own personal journey of losing her mother, and a lull in her business, all leading to questioning on a deep level: Why am I doing what I am doing? What’s the point?
Things aren’t happening, so maybe the universe is telling me there’s no point, and on and on.
We have all been there. We lose our way, lose our faith in ourselves, and lose hope.
And wouldn’t you know: Just at the point of thinking of giving up, suddenly the clouds parted and Sara received amazing news and feedback and saw that others saw and believed…
So even if those wonderful things didn’t happen right then, chances are Sara would have picked herself up and knew she believed and continued her “purpose”.
But here she talks about the process and shares with you and encourages you….. a miracle can be around the corner. And Don’t give up!
