  • Coaches Corner: Should I gain, maintain, or minimise the damage?

I've had so many great conversations with friends and colleagues about what we see happening in the fitness industry, and thought to myself, "I wish we would have recorded that."

...So that's exactly what the Coaches Corner is about.

Join me for the third installment of a conversation I had with my friend JLT, of Storm Force Fitness, as we discuss how to navigate the festive season through understanding that your goals and processes are only as good as your underlying values.

There are going to be times when you can dial everything in, and tighten the screws to make gains, times when you're looking to maintain your current health and fitness levels, whilst also living your life, and times when you need to recognise that you will probably take a few steps backwards, but are focused on minimising the damage.

Please note that the original conversation went for about 80 minutes, so I recommend listening to the entirety of the conversation to understand the full context, as there is some crossover between the topics we cover...which will be dropped as separate episodes.

The odds were stacked against me:

    ●       Poor family on welfare, eldest of 6 kids, parents didn’t work, abusive step-dad, no electricity or running water for a 6 years period of my life

    ●       Caught up with the wrong crowd, stealing, drugs, skipping school

  • Travis Jones Interview

In this episode, I chat with Travis Jones of RBT (Results Based Training) gyms. This was an incredible conversation that I will be listening back to many times after this episode drops.

TJ is a serial entrepreneur, and a man who is blazing a trail in the health and fitness industry through building out a multi-million dollar gym business, and coaching fit-pros through their own business building endeavors...amongst other things.

    We discuss:
    - Some of the adversities he faced as a teenager that changed the trajectory of his life, and guided him towards the fitness industry
    - The character traits that he has developed over time to be the man, father, partner, and business owner that he has become
    - The constant pursuit of becoming a better human, to be able to provide a service to everybody that comes into contact with him.

Grab a notepad and pen, and strap in for some lessons with a brilliant mind!

  • Own Your Morning. Elevate Your Life

“Take excellent care of the front end of your day, and the rest of your day will pretty much take care of itself. Own your morning. Elevate your life.” - Robin Sharma

I don't use my phone for at least the first hour of the day.
This allows me to start my day on my terms, rather than the terms the external environment is putting on me.
Notifications, emails, social media, etc. are all distractions that I don't allow in to start the day. This provides an environment that sets me up to be proactive, and on the front foot to begin each day, rather than reactive, and on the back foot.

I personally have a number of morning routines that I go through, depending on where I am, what I'm doing, how long I have, how my sleep was the night prior, what the day ahead looks like, etc. Some are 20 minutes. Some are 40 minutes. Some last an hour.
I will choose the routine that best suits the circumstances.

I recommend putting together a simple 10 to 20-minute routine that you can do in any environment, regardless of whether you're at home, staying at your partner's place, traveling, and so on and so forth.

In this video, I share my most basic morning routine, which has become my default over the years. Sometimes this isn't even practical if I have an early flight or an event that requires a little more urgency, however, the majority of the time, these are my non-negotiables.
