Locked On Avalanche - Daily Podcast On The Colorado Avalanche

Colorado Avalanche fans are buzzing as Martin Nečas shines for Czechia in Italy, racking up seven points and dispelling (for now) his playoff ghost reputation. Will his high-stakes Olympic performance translate to a breakout NHL postseason? Chris Micieli and Zach Pearson debate whether this confidence boost will be the turning point Nečas needs, and weigh optimism versus skepticism from Avalanche Nation’s Subtext community.

Key topics include the upcoming quarterfinal matchups against powerhouse teams Canada and USA, potential upsets from Sweden, and the impact of pressure on Olympic athletes.

The conversation wraps with a unique Olympic medal question: Would you rather win for bronze or lose for silver? Don’t miss expert insights and spirited banter from Locked On Avalanche as the playoff drama unfolds.

USA and Canada women’s hockey set up a classic gold medal showdown, but is the lack of parity hurting the sport’s global growth? Gil Martin, Eddie Garcia, Zach Berman, and Glenn Dreyfus break down Team USA’s defensive dominance, Marie-Philip Poulin’s crucial return for Canada, and the uphill battle facing Swedish and Czech programs. The hosts debate whether dynasties boost or hinder Olympic excitement, and consider what it would mean for Canada to stage a Miracle on Ice upset.

The roundtable also tackles Tom Wilson’s rare Olympic fight, the fallout from Kevin Fiala’s injury, and key goalie performances, including Jesper Wallstedt and Lukáš Dostal. Plus, they preview the men’s qualifiers—Sweden vs. Latvia, Germany vs. France, Czechia vs. Denmark—and explore which rosters and goalies could pose the biggest threat to Team USA or Canada. Will an underdog script or another heavyweight rivalry write the story in this year’s Olympic hockey?

Team USA Women shock Team Canada with a dominant 5-0 victory—has the balance of power shifted in Olympic hockey? Gil Martin leads the debate with David Morassutti and Glenn Dreyfuss, spotlighting the Americans’ airtight defense, standout performances from Hannah Bilka and Laila Edwards, and the historic inclusion of three Black players in a single Olympic game. The crew questions if Team Canada can recover from this lopsided loss, debating what adjustments Marie-Philip Poulin’s return might spark and whether the U.S. could be overconfident heading toward a likely gold medal rematch. Turning to the men’s tournament, the panel analyzes Canada’s stacked roster with Sidney Crosby and Connor McDavid, USA’s goaltending strengths, and dark horse threats like Finland, Czechia, and Germany’s Leon Draisaitl. Insightful previews of opening matchups and tactical lineup strategies add extra heat. Can any squad disrupt North American dominance on the Olympic ice?
