As the Vegas Golden Knights were raising the Stanley Cup, the odds for next season were already hot off the press, and at the top of that list was the Colorado Avalanche.

Las Vegas continues to be enamored with the Avs and how can you not be when the meat of the team is locked up. As long as the Avalanche can fill in the holes and stay healthy, they should be at the top of most lists to get another championship.

We also take a look a trade that went down between the Avs and the Dallas Stars. Dallas sent forward Fredrik Olofsson to Colorado for......nobody, yet. Dallas will get somebody later. Maybe. We just don't know.

And we give Matt Nieto his season grade. I think we can all agree we would like to see Nieto back next year with the Avs.

The Colorado Avalanche are no longer the defending Stanley Cup champions and are now one year removed from their championship run. But the smell of that championship is still in the air around Denver. The Denver Nuggets and their championship is only 24 hours old. The DU Men's hockey team took the national title in 2022 and the Mammoth took the Lacrosse title.

Bottom line is that the city of Denver and the state of Colorado have seen a handful of championships and all have been very recent. Does that make Denver the title town of the nation right now? We discuss.

One of the bigger names the Avalanche need to hand a new contract to this offseason is, of course, Bowen Byram. The question remains on if it will be a bridge deal or a long term one. We might have gotten a glimpse into the market after the Montreal Canadiens signed Cole Caufield to a massive 8 year, $62.8 million deal. Seeing as how Caufield was drafted in the same year as Byram, does this have any impact on how the Avs negotiate with their defenseman?

We also discuss the new head coach hiring of the Anaheim Ducks, as they dip into the Avalanche pool to tab Greg Cronin, who has lead the AHL Colorado Eagles the past several years. Why we like this hiring, but of course how it leaves a void for the Avs AHL squad.

Deputy commissioner of the NHL was asked about the Valeri Nichushkin situation and he responded: “There’s no ongoing investigation into the Nichushkin incident. We know exactly what happened. It was handled appropriately, both at the club level and, I think, at the league level, and he’s eligible to play in the league.”

That will satisfy some, but for others it won't. But should we expect Nuke to be back in full at the start of next season? While we don't have a definite answer to that, by Daly saying there is no ongoing investigation into the matter, we know Val isn't facing any legal involvement, so it will come down to a decision by him and the Colorado Avalanche. We wait and see.

Ball had the same surgery Landeskog did and has yet to return to his sport. A news report yesterday came out stating that the Bulls secretly feel like Ball's career is over and he won't play again.
