Locked On Braves - Daily Podcast On The Atlanta Braves

With the talent the Atlanta Braves have on the roster, it’s hard to find many weaknesses, but depth is certainly one of them.

There are many strengths of this team as they can hit for power and average, have quality arms in the rotation, and a very deep bullpen.

The Braves also received great news on Tuesday morning about Ronald Acuña Jr. and the health of his right knee.

We discuss just how concerned Atlanta Braves fans should be about the recent injury news on Ronald Acuña Jr.

Dylan Dodd was the darling of Spring Training camp this time last year. Fast-forward a year and he now has the most on the line of any prospect.

AJ Smith-Shawver had another great Spring Training start and might be making a strong case to start the year in the rotation.

We’ve seen a couple of starts from Bryce Elder know and one from Reynaldo Lopez, who has the early lead on the 5th starter spot in the Atlanta Braves rotation.

Other questions have to do with the slow start in Spring from Jarred Kelenic and the hot start for Michael Harris.

Jake answers other questions and responds to comments from those able to join live.

While the Atlanta Braves starting rotation carries significant injury risk, there is depth to help them get through the regular season.

Alex Anthopoulos continues to do a great job of building flexibility in the bullpen with a ton of high-leverage arms.

Jake wraps things up by talking about the latest news from Braves Spring Training camp, including Spencer Strider’s outing on Thursday.

The Atlanta Braves outfield is headlined by 2023 NL MVP Ronald Acuña Jr., but don’t overlook the rest of the cast.

Michael Harris II seems poised to breakout on an All-Star level in 2024, and the Braves are hoping for big things from former top prospect Jarred Kelenic.

The Braves have done a good job securing solid depth in the outfield as well this offseason.

Top to bottom, the Atlanta Braves have the most talent of any team in baseball. But not many teams have an infield full of All-Stars.

Can the Braves offense repeat their offensive success from 2024? And if there is one area they need to improve upon it’s the defense.

We also take a look at the depth on the infield should a starter need to miss a significant length of time.

In this episode of the Locked on Braves podcast, Lindsay Crosby (Locked On MLB Prospects, Braves Today) fills in for Jake Mastroianni and offers a discussion on a variety of topics, including prospective roster changes, pitching prospects, and contract extensions for the Atlanta Braves. The host also explores why Max Fried might not be the one receiving the next contract extension, but if he were to sign, what the deal could potentially look like. Lindsay also answers questions on expectations for Jarred Kelenic and Chris Sale, what Aaron Bummer's good at, how much leash Marcell Ozuna will have if he starts slowly, the 2025 rotation, and wraps with a TON of prospect questions.

Bench Bat Lindsay Crosby (Locked On MLB Prospects, Braves Today) is back to pinch-hit for Jake and breaks down the Braves 26-man roster position battles that need to get decided between now and Opening Day. Who wins the 5th starter's spot, Bryce Elder, Reynaldo López, or the field? how do the Braves configure their bench? How do the bullpen roles shake out, and is it a problem that you might not have any optionable relievers in the majors to start 2024? Lindsay looks at the possibilities.

Bench bat Lindsay Crosby (Locked On MLB Prospects, Braves Today) breaks down all of Atlanta's preseason award odds from FanDuel. Yes Ronald Acuña Jr could very well repeat as MVP (and maybe adding a batting title), but what do Matt Olson or Austin Riley need to do to get into the conversation? Spencer Strider's the Cy Young favorite, but Max Fried has a shot as well. And there's several Braves that could pick up Silver Sluggers or Gold Gloves, like Michael Harris II in centerfield.
