Locked On Broncos - Daily Podcast On The Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos watched Super Bowl 55 from home on Sunday, but there were some important events that the front office, players, and the coaching staff should have taken note of. As Tom Brady and the Buccaneers took out Denver's AFC West division rival the Kansas City Chiefs, it was the old adage of "defense wins championships" that mattered the most in the biggest game of all. Cody Roark breaks down Super Bowl 55 and discusses what the Denver Broncos should have taken away from the Bucs victory against Kansas City. Broncos Head Coach Vic Fangio provided a blueprint early on in the season that demonstrated ways to contain the Chiefs offense, and Tampa Bay used some of those blueprints combined with their dynamic inside linebackers to help prevent the Chiefs from scoring any touchdowns. Plus, Denver Broncos defensive back Duke Dawson joins the podcast to discuss his offseason rehab after having ACL surgery, his goals for 2021, what it's like playing alongside Justin Simmons and Kareem Jackson, and what it's like playing in Vic Fangio's defense.

The Denver Broncos have been preparing for what the off-season would bring them, but drama appears to be the latest topic surrounding the team. Broncos safety Kareem Jackson said in an interview with TMZ that Denver would be a destination of interest for Houston Texans star Quarterback Deshaun Watson. As players attended radio row for this weekend's Super Bowl matchup, Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy went on a media tour as well. Jeudy was asked by ESPN Radio about Watson, and his answer provided many transcribers with their own narrative. Cody Roark discusses Jeudy's interviews and provides clarity on the overreaction that was caused by the interview and transcript. Plus with the Super Bowl approaching, Cody is joined by Patrick Chiotti of Pro Football Network to discuss Super Bowl 55, their predictions, and which players fans should focus on that aren't named Tom Brady or Patrick Mahomes.

Peyton Manning was notified earlier this week that he in fact would be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. One of Manning's most historic contributions as a QB in the NFL came during his time with the Denver Broncos from 2012-2015 where he set record setting numbers, took the Broncos to two Super Bowls, and beating Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in two AFC Championships. Cody Roark discusses Manning's legacy as a Bronco and evaluates the Broncos RB position, which players fit in both short/long term, and we hear from Broncos safety Kareem Jackson who jumped onto Bob Papa and Charlie Weis show on Sirius XM NFL Radio to discuss the Super Bowl, playing against Patrick Mahomes twice per year, and who he thinks will win Sunday's big game.

George Paton has begun his tenure as the new Denver Broncos General Manager. Paton waived five players from the roster on Tuesday as the team's focus shifts to their off-season roster evaluations, and salary cap management. How much cap space did Denver free up with their transactions on Tuesday? Cody Roark discusses that and also breaks down the current tight end room for the Broncos as they head into the off-season. Which players have a short/long term use for the team going into the future and who could likely be cut at the start of the new league year? George Paton recently reached out to Justin Simmons to introduce himself -- how much traction does this create for Denver locking up Simmons on a long-term deal?

The Detroit Lions traded Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams over the weekend in exchange for two future first-round picks and a mid-round pick + Jared Goff. The Denver Broncos inquired with the Lions about what it would take to acquire Stafford, but new Broncos GM George Paton determined that what Detroit was asking for, was simply too much than what Denver felt comfortable parting ways with. Cody Roark discusses Paton's decision and how the decision alone gives Broncos fans an idea as to how the organization may be thinking about the QB position as it stands today. Plus, Broncos fans send in their Mailbag Monday questions.

The Senior Bowl has been a breeding ground for many NFL teams over the years for discovering under-represented talent. Ross Jackson of Locked On Saints made the trip to Mobile this week to watch practice and give Broncos fans some insight on players like Damar Hamlin, safety from Pitt, quarterback prospects, and who he thinks is this year's Jeremy Chinn. Cody Roark and Ross also discuss how difficult it is to replace a Hall of Fame Quarterback from a Broncos perspective as the New Orleans Saints approach that reality this off-season. Cody also discusses why the Broncos are not a team that is rebuilding, despite construction tape surrounding the team.

The Denver Broncos may have to choose one or the other during this off-season as it pertains to veteran defensive lineman Jurrell Casey or Shelby Harris. Harris is set to become an unrestricted free agent while Casey still remains under contract with the Broncos. However, as the Broncos attempt to figure out how to re-sign several key players, the appeal of the Broncos saving $11.8M increases if they release Casey from his contract despite trading for him last off-season. Cody Roark discusses what he believes the Broncos should do in this situation and also shares some big news as it pertains to the podcast after a special announcement was revealed yesterday. The No Fly Zone is reuniting this weekend on Call To The Booth, which is a podcast hosted by Aqib Talib as members from the Broncos legendary defensive back unit get together to talk about the Super Bowl 50 season, Cody discusses some of the things he hopes to hear about when the defensive unit gets together this Sunday to reflect.
