Locked On Dodgers – Daily Podcast On The Los Angeles Dodgers

Dave Roberts talked about Walker Buehler and the plan for his spring, which may not include any Cactus League games. Is that a cause for concern? Shohei Ohtani took live batting practice on Monday and hit a home run. We also answered a question about Ohtani's chances of ending his career on the Dodgers' Mount Rushmore. Lastly, there was an article from the LA Times that mentioned that "teammates" of Mookie Betts questioned his commitment with all his other off-the-field endeavors. Jeff and Vince wonder about that and break down why that should never be questioned as far as we know so far.

We had a full weekend of Dodgers in camp and got to see more of Shohei Ohtani's batting practice. But we haven't seen him hit against live pitching yet. No concern but just another step of excitement to see him take on some Dodger pitching. Yoshinobu Yamamoto did face hitters over the weekend and he left them impressed. Freddie Freeman had strong thoughts on what he saw from the right-hander. Lastly, the Dodgers signed Justin Wilson to a minor-league deal. It's another option for a bullpen full of them. What will the Opening Day bullpen look like?

Dave Roberts talked about the closer role and how it will mostly be handled by Evan Phillips this season. He did leave the door open to use him in other situations though. The Dodgers are still linked to Kenley Jansen but that doesn't make much sense. Also, Rob Manfred announced this would be his last term as commissioner and will be done in 2029. He also spoke about the slow free agency this year and how MLB could maybe fix that. Lastly, more players are speaking out against the new Nike/Fanatics jerseys. Will a change be made before the season starts?

With the first full team workout ahead, Dave Roberts did his annual pre-season speech to the entire organization. What did he say and what might he have meant with those words? The guys analyze. Also, there are still big-time free agents available even as pitchers and catchers report. Can any of them join an NL West rival and challenge the Dodgers? Lastly, the Dodgers now have a Guggenheim patch on their jersey and will be getting their second City Connect uniforms. The guys give their thoughts on that.

Another day of spring training gone by and there was no major news for the Dodgers. There are some intriguing storylines though for the team. One of them is Gavin Stone and how he recovers from a tough first season. Can he bounce back and find himself as the No. 5 starter out of camp? Also, Gavin Lux has been cleared to fully participate but what can we expect from him this spring and moving forward? Lastly, Miguel Vargas is entering camp as a left fielder. Why is that and what does it mean for him in 2024?

Shohei Ohtani took on-field batting practice for the first time as a Dodger and it was impressive. He also spoke to the media again and gave some thoughts and updates about how he felt after. We also got to see some videos of Yoshinobu Yamamoto the past few days along with his comments about his first MLB spring training and adjusting to everything. Lastly, Mookie Betts spoke with the media and talked about how the game isn't just played on paper.

Shohei Ohtani met with the media on Friday, which got members of the media wondering how often he'd meet with the media, so we're talking about that today. We also (finally) dig into the Los Angeles Dodgers' new uniforms and the specific changes to determine whether they're actually bad or just new. And finally, Jeff talks about watching the Super Bowl with no rooting interest and the fun that comes with that.

With all the excitement about Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Tyler Glasnow, it's easy to overlook that the Los Angeles Dodgers have some pretty good pitchers coming back in 2024. Bobby Miller returns for his sophomore season, while Walker Buehler tries to bounce back from his second Tommy John surgery. We dig into both of those potential aces and look at what to expect from them this season. Then we take a look at the bullpen options and try to figure out what the LA pen will look like to start the season.
