Rich Hill was excellent again, allowing just one run in six innings. The bullpen was terrible, allowing seven runs in the seventh inning. Jeff is here alone today to talk as little as possible about a game we'd all rather just forget. Then he brought some real-world evidence of a radio play-by-play announcer being bad at describing the action in the game, which is literally his whole job.

The Dodgers took two out of three from the Reds this weekend, and Jeff and Vince are here to talk about it. Each game had a little bit of controversy, and we have thoughts about each of those, too. We also introduce a new segment: Obscure Former Dodger of the Day. Today's honoree: Jack Fimple.

The Dodgers made a flurry of roster moves, including recalling Matt Beaty, promoting Kyle Garlick for the first time, reinstating Caleb Ferguson from the injured list, and placing Kenta Maeda on the I.L. Vince and Jeff are here to discuss those moves, give a brief update on Julio Urias, and then discuss grumpy old man pet peeves.

Kenta Maeda pitched 6.2 shutout innings with 12 strikeouts, and the bullpen finished off the shutout to complete a short two-game sweep of the Padres and finish a 7-2 homestand. Maeda also drove in the only to runs of the game with a bloop single in the second inning. Jeff is here solo today to talk about the performances from Maeda and Jansen and the Dodger fans' reception of Manny Machado in his return to L.A.

Tuesday started ugly, with the news that Julio Urias had been arrested for domestic violence. Vince and Jeff attended Tuesday night's Dodger game together and are here to talk briefly about the game, but most of our attention on today's episode is on Urias.
If you or someone you know needs help, the National Domestic Violence Hotline can be reached at 1-800-799-7233 or by visiting http://www.thehotline.org/.

Hyun-Jin Ryu was named National League Player of the Week. Cody Bellinger is on pace for about 16 WAR. Alex Verdugo is on pace for about 8 WAR as a rookie. Jeff and Vince are here to talk about those three and to answer some of your mailbag questions about the bullpen, AJ Pollock, Andrew Toles, and other things.

The Dodgers got great starting pitching over the weekend and were one Justin Turner error away from throwing three straight shutouts. As it was, they split the series with the Nationals, capped by a near no-hitter by Hyun-Jin Ryu on Sunday. Vince and Jeff are here to talk about it all in an episode that's a little longer than usual.

🎵What the world needs now
Is ro-bot umps.
Good calls are just some things
That there's just too little of.
The Dodgers lost to the Nationals. They didn't lose because of bad ball/strike calls, but there WERE bad ball/strike calls, and since the alternative would be dwelling on the lackluster team performance and the dominant pitching by Patrick Corbin, Jeff (flying solo today) chose to kind of gloss over those things and talk about how crazy it is that we let the complexion of games change because old men are bad at enforcing the rules of the strike zone. Take a listen and let us know what you think.
