Locked On Islanders - Daily Podcast On The New York Islanders

The New York Islanders played a mediocre game and fell to the Montreal Canadiens 3-2 in a shootout. Although they picked up one point, they need more if they hope to get back into the playoff race. We discuss why the Isles are so inconsistent, especially on offense and discuss the return of Josh Bailey and the latest injury to Oliver Wahlstrom.

Plus we discuss the passing of a NY-area hockey legend who indirectly helped make the Islanders franchise possible in Emile Francis.

Plus a rugged and physical defenseman is our Islanders Birthday of the Day. All this and more on today's Locked On Islanders Podcast with Gil Martin.

Ilya Sorokin has provided the New York Islanders with some great goaltending over the past two seasons. But over the last eight games, he's been just average. What's going on with Sorokin and what can the Islanders do to get him back on track because we still don't know when Semyon Varlamov will be available.

We also have a full preview of tonight's game at home against the Boston Bruins in what is shaping up to be a must-win game for the Islanders.

All this and more on today's Locked On Islanders Podcast with Gil Martin.

The New York Islanders didn't play Islanders style hockey and lost to the Buffalo Sabres 6-3. The Isles allowed 40 shots on goal and had too many defensive breakdowns to win this hockey game. Kyle Palmieri responded and scored twice and Anders Lee played well, but again there were too many passengers and not enough passion to earn the two points. We have our key takeaways from this game.

We also look at our weekly Farm Report as we look at a solid week for the Bridgeport Islanders who continue to play better but still have ground to make up.

And we look at a solid two-way center for the Islanders from the mid-70s as our Islanders Birthday of the Day.

The New York Islanders signed Kyle Palmieri to be a top six forward but that hasn't worked out too well this season. He has one goal in 29 games and has been scratched the past few games. Where does and should Palmieri fit into the Islanders lineup?

Plus we have a full preview of tonight's game in Buffalo against the Sabres and who the Isles emergency backup goalie will be.

It was a lost weekend for the New York Islanders. They lost two games on their road trip, one to the Edmonton Oilers and one to the Calgary Flames and they lost goalie Semyon Varlamov who entered Covid protocols just before he was scheduled to start Saturday.

We break down what the losses mean and how the loss of Varlamov will affect the team over the next few games.

And we have our key takeaways from this weekend's games.

The New York Islanders scored 5 goals in the first period including three goals in 31 seconds to beat the Vancouver Canucks 6-3. We have our key takeaways from the game including the interesting line combinations that Barry Trotz put together that ended up working well at least for tonight.

Is Cal Clutterbuck a permanent first line player? No. Ross Johnston on the second line? Anthony Beauvillier on the fourth line? No. But we will explain why Trotz did this and why it worked so well.

We'll also discuss some reasons for concern as the Isles let a 5-0 lead slip to 5-3 before clinching the win late.
