Today we continue our player by player look at the New York Islanders season with center Bo Horvat. We compare Horvat's numbers with the Vancouver Canucks with his performance with the Isles and explain some of the reasons his production dropped. We also look ahead to next season and discuss whether he can be productive enough to justify his 8-year, $8.5 million per year contract.

Plus the NHL confirms the date of the Isles outdoor game with the Rangers at the Meadowlands and we discuss whether GM Lou Lamoriello will re-sign defenseman Bode Wilde who will be a free agent if the Isles don't make him a qualifying offer by the end of this month.

Today we discuss why the New York Islanders have never been able to sign top-tier free agents over the course of their history. The reasons have varied at different times but the team has never really made a huge splash in free agency, instead trading for players and then trying to re-sign them has been their MO especially under Garth Snow and Lou Lamoriello.

We also discuss the outlook for free agency this season and why the team is unlikely to play a major role in free agency again this summer.

Plus we look at Hudson Fasching's season, discuss his strengths and weaknesses and what his rol eon the Islanders is expected to be next season.

The New York Islanders players left the team facility to head home for the offseason on May 1st. Today is May 31st but the fans have still not heard from GM Lou Lamoriello and head coach Lane Lambert nor has the team said anything about their futures or the direction the team will take this offseason. The fans are increasingly frustrated by the lack of communication from the organization.

Plus, we look at Koehn Ziemmer, a right wing and a player The Athletic said the Islanders could be interested in drafting in the second round of this year's NHL Draft.

And we look at Adam Pelech's season, whether he met expectations and what we can expect from Pelech next season with the Isles.

We all know the New York Islanders need both a goal scorer and a puck moving defenseman. But because of their salary cap limitations, they will not likely be able to address both of these positions this offseason. So if you could only fix one position, which would you prioritize and why? We examine that question from several different angles today.

Plus we look at Mathew Barzal's season. Did Barzy meet expectations and what role does he project to for the 2023-24 season with the team.

There are still ways for the New York Islanders to improve from within and two of them are interrelated. One is to improve the power play which cost them dearly in both the regular season and the playoffs. We break down some ways to improve it and discuss whether John MacLean will return to coach the PP next season.

Plus Noah Dobson's play fell off last season especially in his own zone. We discuss what the team needs to do to get Dobber's confidence back and to help him quarterback the power play as well.

Plus we look at Cal Clutterbuck's season and his potential future with the team and discuss the biggest issue with his play this year.

The New York Islanders still have a need for a puck-moving defenseman. We discuss the pros and cons of bringing back Toews for next season and what it might cost.

Plus the UBS Arena was ranked dead last in one survey of all 32 rinks around the NHL, we explain why and discuss the reasons the survey was flawed.

And we examine Casey Cizikas' season and what we can expect from him next year with the Islanders.
