Locked On Jaguars - Daily Podcast On The Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars have had a polarizing off-season. Some feel the team has gotten better, while others feel that the team has been too quiet in free agency. If the team has gotten better, I think it needs to be explained, how? I take a stab at it on this episode.

Trent Baalke loves his traits when it comes to prospects. Especially on the defensive side of the ball. Add that to positional value ideology and the field of who is worthy to be targeted in a move up gets pretty small. I list who is worth the extra compensation.

The fans likely don't wanna hear it, but not selecting a player in round 1 might be what's best for the Jacksonville Jaguars. With the new "draft and develop" mentality by GM Trent Baalke at play, it should be better if the team gets more cracks at the egg by trading back for more assets and positioning themselves to get up to 3 players from a group that I don't see much difference in value wise. The Jacksonville Jaguars drafted Devin Lloyd last year after a trade back into round 1, after the LB seemingly slipped to lower than most expected. Now , the team is actually picking late in each round because of their success. We can hope and dream that someone the mock drafts don't reflect being there when the Jaguars pick falls to them. I made a list in all 3 rounds. Listen:

Despite the Jacksonville Jaguars quiet off season, fans are still confident the team is in good hands. One of the reasons why is Doug Pederson being a proven winner with a calm and level demeanor. We look at Pederson's run with the Eagles and how things went after winning the Super Bowl to see if something similar could occur here. Also, a look at team building while I explain a social media poll that shocked me about Brock Bowers.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are in Draft and Retain mode so the picks made in 2023 must make a huge difference early and often.

Day 1, Day2, and Day 3 guys must become regular contributors and competition if the team is going to advance in the playoffs.

It's a risky strategy that could pay big dividends. Listen:

Seeing the fight Lamar Jackson is in with the Baltimore Ravens to get a long term deal satisfactory to both sides makes me think the Jacksonville Jaguars will move differently with Trevor Lawrence and do a deal early. What does 1 have to do with the other? I tell you on this episode. Also, I don't like that pass rush is the biggest need when the team has 2 first round picks (top 7) on the team.

When the Jacksonville Jaguars talk improvement they mean more than just Trevor Lawrence and Travon Walker. They need Devin Lloyd, Luke Fortner and many others to step up. And did anyone find out why Travis Etienne wasn't in the game late vs the Chiefs? I guess he needs to be on the list, too.
