Locked On Jaguars - Daily Podcast On The Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to be super quiet during the Negotiating period and actual start to Free Agency. This is a major switch in philosophy now that the team has a Franchise QB and have hit on draft picks the last 2 years. Mainly, the club is committed on paper to other players that play most of the critical positions they'd have to spend for. If they do make any moves, we have an idea what position(s) they may go after.

With the Houston Texans in position to grab one of the top-four quarterbacks in this year’s NFL Draft (Alabama’s Bryce young, C.J. Stroud of Ohio State, Florida Gators passer Anthony Richardson or Kentucky’s Will Levis) who would be their best fit? Meanwhile the Kansas City Chiefs look to saddle Patrick Mahomes with a top-end pass-catching threat as they look to ward off surging teams like the Los Angeles Chargers, the revamped Denver Broncos led by new head coach Sean Payton and the Miami Dolphins and their new cornerback Jalen Ramsey. And with the Las Vegas Raiders having moved on from now-New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr, landing a signal caller should be at the top of their priority list as well. Our Locked On NFL Draft experts get you ready for the annual selection process.

The Jacksonville Jaguars used the Franchise Tag with hopes of a long term extension for Evan Engram. While I think it's smart to retain one of QB Trevor Lawrence's top targets from a year ago, I think Doug Pederson's ability to get the best from Engram shows the positional value in this teams' offense. Therefore none of the expected 4 slots should be reserved for roster filler or special teams type players. Everyone needs to have a high ceiling for potential development as a future starter.

The NFL Draft is full of surprise. Surprise don't necessarily equate to disappointment as long as the player becomes a real contributor and helps the team. History says there's a big chance for us all to be surprised. I name 5 players who would do just that, without judgement or disappointing.

Jacksonville Jaguars GM Trent Baalke is right to move the franchise past spending in Free Agency and focusing more on Drafting, and Developing. The main reason other than most winning teams doing it that way, is having to pay a Franchise QB in the future. Make no mistake about it, Trevor Lawrence is just that, a Franchise QB.

The Jacksonville Jaguars were expected to move on from CB Shaq Griffin and free up over 13 million dollars in salary cap space. So why haven't they? Listen here as I give some possibilities as to why they haven't. Also, surprises in the draft happen more as you get further away from the #1 pick. So expect them this year. Should Jags fans be cautious in their optimism moving forward? No. Listen for why:

There was 1 prospect at the 2023 NFL Combine that stuck out specifically for me to help the Jacksonville Jaguars: OG O'Cyrus Torrence from the University of Florida. He provides a big (6-5/342) and powerful "people mover" that can neutralize an interior rusher partly by wearing them down in the run game. I see him as a Landon Dickerson type that can clear lanes for Travis Etienne and be a bully/body guard for QB Trevor Lawrence, and give the Jaguars a nasty presence for years to come while they continue to climb in the AFC.

Reports of a Rat problem in Jacksonville Jaguars facility is exterminated if you open your eyes and see a brand new facility that has been started over a year ago and will be ready for training camp. Also looking at the combine tells me the Jaguars will get an impact player who fits need at #24 if they decide to sit and stay. Listen:

The Jacksonville Jaguars will reportedly use the Franchise Tag on TE Evan Engram according to NFL Network. Engram will be an unrestricted free agent when free agency starts, but the Tag will limit his opportunity and likelihood of actually testing the market. The 2 sides will likely continue to work towards a long term deal before the deadline to sign a deal arrives. This means that OT Juwaan Taylor will have that chance in the free market if the team doesn't reach a deal with him before the free agency period begins. Listen here:

As much as we celebrate Trevor Lawrence and Doug Pederson, the Fortune of the Jacksonville Jaguars might rest on the shoulders of GM Trent Baalke. While the QB and Head Coach are driving the bus, Baalke is the mechanic who orders pats and does the maintenance. Therefore, the ride will only go as far as the work you don't see being done holds up. The question is how much faith do fans have in that structure?
