Locked On Jets - Daily Podcast On The New York Jets

Since Thanksgiving is Thursday this week, we are moving up the mailbag to Tuesday. Thanks to all who submitted questions. As I always say, there can be no mailbag show without mailbag questions. If yours went unanswered today, feel free to resend it in next week.

On today's show we look at the odds of Gregg Williams getting a coaching job in the NFL next season, whether the Jets should be looking at new kickers, the Brian Winters effect on the offensive line, whether the Jets will overrate their own talent this offseason and avoid making necessary upgrades, whether Darryl Roberts should reclaim his starting job when healthy, the effectiveness of Jonotthan Harrison, and whether the last three weeks have changed my mind on Adam Gase.

Even on a two game winning streak, the Jets are likely playing out the string here in 2019. With only six games left in the season, the team finds itself far outside Playoff positioning. What significance does the final month and a half have? On today's show I offer some thoughts on things worth watching for the remainder of the 2019 season.

The state of the locker room in a lost year will be worth examining. Things will likely quiet down momentarily after a couple of wins. How will things be if the Jets lose some games? Adam Gase has a history of problems so it will bear watching. So will be the development of young players, the ability of the players having rough seasons to rebound, and the way the team finishes its remaining schedule. It also would be nice if the Jets could actually develop some sort of identity on offense.

For the first time in 2019, the Jets recorded a blowout win on Sunday. The team is now on a two game winning streak for the first time in over one calendar year. The opponent was not great. In fact, the Washington Redskins looked totally inept in the game. Still, a win is a win. You can only beat the team in front of you. The Jets did that on Sunday in a 34-17 blowout in which the final margin undersold the degree of domination. Washington tacked on a couple of late touchdowns to make the score look more respectable.

On today's show we look at what happened. There were numerous standout performances for the Jets. Most notably, the quarterback stepped up with a 4 touchdown outing. It was another positive game in a season that has been filled with ups and downs.

Also among the stars was Jamal Adams. The safety had a second consecutive stellar game by recording three sacks.

We discuss all this and more on the show.

Jets CEO Christopher Johnson announced on Wednesday that head coach Adam Gase will return for the 2020 season. The announcement makes no sense on any level. On today's show we discuss this poor decision and then move into a Thursday mailbag.
