Locked On Nets - Daily Podcast On The Brooklyn Nets

The Nets went into Detroit on Tuesday with a big task: avoid a loss. The Pistons were on the verge of losing 26 straight games, the NBA single season record. And Brooklyn didn’t want that to end.

It was a close one with Cade Cunningham pouring it on in the second half, but the Nets were able to stave it off and come away with the win. The Locked on Nets guys talk about the game, the play of the bench, and the starting lineup that continues to falter.

The Nets had a big task on Saturday, beat the Detroit Pistons to extend the latter’s losing streak. And to not become the team that had that streak end. Mikal Bridges, Cam Thomas and the rest of the group were up to the task.

The Locked on Nets guys break down the game, the win and the get-right spot for the Nets.

The Nets host Nuggets on Friday in a game that has Brooklyn as +4.5 underdogs. Nikola Jokic comes to town and this is a tough matchup in general.

Will the Nets make a starting lineup change after four-straight losses? Could that mean Cam Thomas moving back to the bench or some other direction Jacque Vaughn and company take?

The Locked on Nets take a look at the game and the weekend as a whole.

The Nets issued an injury update for Ben Simmons on Wednesday, but if anything, it just kicked the can further down the road. They said there was progress but that, ultimately, they would give another update in two weeks.

Simmons hasn’t played since November 6th and, by these accounts, doesn’t appear all that close to returning. The Locked on Nets guys discuss what this means for the team and whether Nets fans should hold out any hope of Simmons returning.

Mikal Bridges struggled shooting on the Nets West Coast trip and things didn’t get any better on Wednesday against the Knicks. Bridges had one of the worst shooting games of his career, going 4-21 and finishing with 15 points. It was a brutal performance and a big reason the Nets couldn’t hang with the Knicks at all.

The Locked on Nets guys talk about Bridges recent struggles, the overall problems with the team through this stretch and how we could see some starting lineup changes coming.

The hot stove is heating up on Donovan Mitchell and the possibility that he could be traded out of Cleveland at some point this season. The Cavs are dealing with injuries to Darius Garland and Evan Mobley; plus Mitchell might not fit their overall timeline.

Should Brooklyn be in the mix here for Mitchell and what would it cost to bring him in? They likely have the pieces

The Nets closed out the West Coast road trip going 1-4, losing to the Utah Jazz on Monday night in what ended up being a moderate blowout.

Cam Thomas was very good in the game finishing with 32 points on 12-23 shooting, but he got no help from others. Mikal Bridges really struggled, as he did much of this road trip, finishing just 13 points on 4-15 shooting.

The Locked on Nets guys break down the game and the Nets recent struggles.

Lauri Markkanen and the Jazz represent a very winnable game for the Brooklyn Nets. Following a disappointing loss to Steph Curry and the Warriors, the Nets can head home with a 2-3 west coast record if they can get the Monday night win.

The guys highlight the injuries and rotations for Utah, which show a team playing balanced minutes rather than leaning into a "best players play max minutes" mentality. Brooklyn will also need to right the negative net-rating for the current starting unit of Mikal Bridges, Cam Thomas, Spencer Dinwiddie, Cam Johnson and Nic Claxton - especially with a bench unit missing both Lonnie Walker III and Dennis Smith Jr.

Cam Johnson signed a multi-year contract in the off-season, but this year hasn’t quite lived up to increased expectations so far. The Nets wing has struggled with some injuries but also seen a decline in rate stats nearly across the board.

The Locked on Nets guys discuss Johnson’s play so far and what it’s meant for the team. Was this to be expected or is there room for upside still in Cam Johnson’s game?

The Nets staged a comeback after falling down early to the Warriors and Cam Thomas finished with 41 points. But it wasn’t enough and Mikal Bridges missed a shot and the end of the game that could have tied it.

Steph Curry went nuts in the second and the Nets came up short. The Locked on Nets guys break down the game, the key sequences and how the Nets lost another close one.
