Locked On Pelicans - Daily Podcast On The New Orleans Pelicans

The New Orleans Pelicans face a franchise-defining choice: is Derik Queen their long-term center or power forward? Roster construction, defensive identity, and playoff potential hinge on this decision, with past missteps around Zion Williamson and Anthony Davis still echoing through the organization. Jake Madison breaks down the challenges of building around unique big men in today's NBA, comparing Queen’s fit alongside Zion and weighing key on-court combinations.

Key discussions include the team’s defensive struggles with Queen at both the 4 and 5, the limitations of non-shooting lineups, and which player archetypes best complement New Orleans’ young core. From possible trades for elite rim protectors to the importance of gathering lineup data over the final stretch of the season, Jake Madison examines what the Pelicans must do to avoid repeating past mistakes and unlock their postseason potential. Can New Orleans finally build a contender around their talented but unconventional frontline?

New Orleans Pelicans show major offensive improvements under James Borrego, but defensive rebounding issues threaten to derail their season. The offense ranks faster and more balanced compared to Willie Green’s tenure, while Zion Williamson’s isolation plays, Trey Murphy’s expanded skillset, and Sadiq Bae’s post-ups generate momentum. Turnovers are down, and the Pelicans now rank ninth in turnover percentage, showcasing smarter ball control.

Jake Madison highlights the connection between cleaner offense and improved transition defense, noting efforts from Herb Jones and a commitment to containing pick-and-roll ball handlers. However, persistent struggles on the defensive glass leave New Orleans vulnerable, as the team’s starting lineup continues to underwhelm. Can the Pelicans overcome their rebounding woes and convert their tangible progress into playoff success, or is another early exit looming despite their midseason leap?

NBA expansion rumors swirl, but could the New Orleans Pelicans finally switch to the Eastern Conference? Jake Madison reveals why a move east is unlikely, breaking down league geography, travel reduction strategies, and which teams—Minnesota Timberwolves or Memphis Grizzlies—are more probable candidates. How would a conference shift impact the Pelicans’ playoff prospects in a stacked Western Conference versus a less crowded East?

Jeremiah Fears and DerIk Queen bring excitement to an otherwise overlooked Pelicans All-Star Weekend, showcasing their skills in the Rising Stars Game. Madison explores how their performances and ball-handling might catch attention from future free agents and boost New Orleans’ appeal. Plus, with the Birmingham Squadron relocating to Kenner as the “Laketown Squadron,” proximity could mean big benefits for player development and emergency call-ups. Will the Pelicans capitalize on young talent and strategic moves to change their NBA fortunes?

The coaching carousel takes center stage as James Borrego’s candidacy heats up. Is he the right leader for a franchise flirting with a full-scale reboot or destined to stay the course? New Orleans Pelicans crush Sacramento Kings in a statement win—proving they're not a bad team, but are they ready to climb the Western Conference standings? New Orleans Pelicans rack up a signature win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, but are the numbers fooling fans and front office alike? With Zion Williamson flashing elite efficiency and the new-look starting lineup clicking offensively, Jake Madison weighs how much weight to put on late-season victories when tanking teams boost the win column. Are the Pelicans truly turning a corner, or is fool’s gold masking deeper defensive and rebounding concerns?

Key questions surface around Dejounte Murray’s potential return and uncertain future, while Jordan Poole’s diminished role and trade value spark debate about roster priorities. Madison highlights the impact of NBA luxury tax moves on New Orleans’ finances and explores how these shifting dollars might shape the team’s willingness to spend. Can the Pelicans capitalize on their momentum, or will looming challenges keep them trapped in the play-in cycle? Don’t miss this sharp analysis of New Orleans’ path forward.

New Orleans Pelicans shock fans by trading Jose Alvarado to the New York Knicks for second-round picks, leaving the roster and team identity in question. Could this be the start of a franchise overhaul, or are bolder moves coming over the offseason? Jake Madison examines the Pelicans’ confused strategy as league insiders and fans alike question the front office's vision. The discussion probes Zion Williamson’s future, potential strategies, and whether a full rebuild or a “win-now” approach is imminent.

Key topics include the logic behind Alvarado’s departure, the significance of acquiring draft capital, and which players—like Trey Murphy and Herb Jones—could be next. Insightful analysis covers the impact on the Pelicans’ locker room, the development opportunities for rookies Jeremiah Fears and Bryce McGowens, and coaching speculation around James Borrego. Can New Orleans find direction before another season slips away, or will the current leadership risk it all on pride and uncertainty?

New Orleans Pelicans collapse in overtime against the short-handed Milwaukee Bucks, sparking major questions about the franchise’s direction. Trey Murphy’s 44-point explosion couldn’t save the Pelicans from a lackluster defensive effort, as Jake Madison calls out the team’s apathy and the front office’s belief in a “playoff-caliber roster.” With Zion Williamson logging heavy minutes but making costly mistakes down the stretch, is New Orleans stuck in denial about its true identity?

Jake Madison breaks down the Pelicans’ embarrassing loss, the failure of key acquisitions like Jordan Poole, mounting trade rumors around Saddiq Bey and Jose Alvarado, and why front office strategy may need a full reset. With the NBA trade deadline looming, can New Orleans pivot its approach and salvage this season, or are deeper changes required to build a winning culture around young prospects like Jeremiah Fears and Derik Queen?
