That's now six losses in a row for the Pittsburgh Penguins as things got worse on Thursday night. To start things off, Hunte roasts the team for their horrendous start in the first period as the game was lost within the opening couple of minutes. He looks at how their legs weren't there, which is unacceptable for a team that just had three days off. He then looks at how Casey DeSmith needed to do a better job keeping them in the game in that first period as he didn't like the second goal that he gave to Eichel. Following that, Hunter gets into how the Penguins looked in the second period before he again roasts the team for not getting anything out of it. He also is wary of the idea of Casey DeSmith getting the starter's reps going forward if Tristan Jarry is going to be out for longer than a day-to-day basis. DeSmith simply has to be better or this team could really fall out of it pretty quickly. Hunter also rips the front office for giving this coaching staff a bottom six that mostly can't score (except you, Brock McGinn, and Josh Archibald) and how the Penguins basically need their top six to score every night or its curtains. Following that, he ends the show thinking about if the Penguins really have any younger players that they can recall from WBS that could make a difference. All that, plus much more on this somber episode of Locked On Penguins.

Happy Wednesday! As always, there is a lot to discuss in this one. Hunter starts the show off with practice notes as the Penguins returned to practice on Wednesday in Las Vegas. He looks to see if Mike Sullivan made any changes to the lines while also looking at what defensive changes he would make since there are now seven healthy defensemen. He then looks over the power-play units and speculates if Mike Sullivan will take Ty Smith off PP1 and replace him with PO Joseph. After that, he previews Thursday's game against the Golden Knights and how this is going to be another tough game for the Penguins to win. He looks at how good Vegas has been this season and how the team is expected to get even better with Jack Eichel coming back for this one (most likely). He then gives some keys for how the Penguins can snap their losing streak before ending the show with a discussion about Kasperi Kapanen and why he should get more playing time going forward. All that, plus much more on this episode of Locked On Penguins.

The Pittsburgh Penguins' skid continued on Monday afternoon with a 2-1 loss to the Boston Bruins. It was a game that featured the Penguins doing a lot of good things, but they then made mistakes in the 3rd period that cost them two points. To start things off, Hunter slams Mike Sullivan for putting out a lineup that should've been better. He goes into how Sullivan usually never does 11 forwards and seven defensemen and wonders why he all of a sudden decided to do that. He also goes at him for continuing to put Brian Dumoulin on the ice in late-game situations when things are most dire. Should Ruhwedel have played over Dumoulin? Why isn't Drew O'Connor getting more minutes? After that, Hunter continues to question Sullivan because Kasperi Kapanen saw his ice time go down yet again, even when he was playing well. He also gets into Casey DeSmith coming in for Tristan Jarry and how well he was playing before the last two goals happened. He then looks at some positives from this game and how most of the Penguins' mistakes are fixable. Finally, Hunter ends the show with his thoughts on the team going forward and why you should still think this team can make the playoffs.

That's now four straight losses and yes, Hunter knows you all want to set everything on fire. Hunter starts Friday night's recap with the special teams' struggles and how that was the main difference in this game. He looks at what the power play did wrong and how it was a complete 180 from the last 12 games when the Penguins scored at least 1 PP goal in 11 of them. He dissects the zone entries and how the Penguins made it look effortless for the Devils to keep sending the puck down the ice, plus why Ty Smith needs to be a bit more polished at the point as the QB. Should the team return to POJ on the top unit until Kris Letang returns? He tries to answer that question before pivoting to how badly the top players played in this one. Is there cause for concern with Jake Guentzel? Hunter gives some stats about his recent play that don't put him in the best light and makes the point that this needs to change quickly. He even does the same for Sidney Crosby as he didn't look to be on his game, either. Hunter also analyzes Tristan Jarry's performance and how he probably should've had that third goal from Hischier while also blasting Malkin for not back-checking hard enough. All that, plus a lot more on this episode of the Locked On Penguins podcast.

When isn't there bad injury news when it comes to the Pittsburgh Penguins? Hunter starts the show off with some practice notes as yes, another Penguin is now hurt. He looks at when exactly Kris Letang got hurt on Wednesday night and if it looks to be severe. He also looks at who will be his replacement on the right side if he has to miss a game or two going forward since he wasn't at practice on Thursday. He also discusses how Ty Smith looks primed to replace him on the top PP and ponders how much playing time he will get if he makes his Penguins debut on Friday night. He also takes a wild guess at what the pairings will be if Letang can't go and yes, that would mean Dumoulin would stay in the lineup. After that, he previews Friday's matchup against the New Jersey Devils as this team has been really struggling as of late. He goes into how the Penguins have struggled against them over the last two seasons (even though their overall record against them isn't too bad) and how their speed has made it difficult for the Penguins to handle. He gives the top keys for the Penguins to pull off this W as second place will be on the line. Finally, he ends the show by answering YOUR mailbag questions!

In Penguins fashion, they had to say "hold my beer" when it comes to the worst loss of the season. Just one night after the Penguins laid an egg against the New York Islanders, they blew a 4-0 lead to the Detroit Red Wings, and...yeah, we have a lot to talk about. Hunter starts the show by slamming head coach Mike Sullivan for continuing to deploy Brian Dumoulin and Jeff Carter like nothing is wrong with them. He looks at some stats which show just how bad they've been in a recent stretch and why they cannot be trusted in late-game situations anymore. He also looks at how it's time for Sullivan to stop being stubborn and catering to veterans who obviously don't have it anymore. He goes into why Ty Smith should start seeing some minutes and why even a move to the wing for Carter probably won't save him. After that, he ponders the question if things have gone stale for the Penguins in the Sullivan era and why some fans need to "tone it down" a bit when it comes to him, even though criticism is valid. Finally, he does get into some positive things for the Penguins to take from this performance (Hello, Jason Zucker?). All that, plus much more on this episode of Locked On Penguins.

That was the worst season performance for the Pittsburgh Penguins and it wasn't close. Hunter starts the show by looking at how Brian Dumoulin and Jeff Carter crush this team on a nightly basis. he breaks down the first goal and what went wrong, plus who was on the ice for it (Hint: it wasn't Carter) before touching on how it's time for Mike Sullivan to have some heart-to-heart conversations with Dumoulin. He looks at how Dumoulin is doing nothing to help the team right now and how it's getting close to Jack Johnson level bad with how his play continues to deteriorate. After that, he gets to Carter and how he was in no-man's-land for multiple goals against the Islanders. Is it time to move Carter to the wing? Would that even work? Hunter dissects that before moving to just how brutal of a game this was. He looks at NST and how this was a total clunker right from the opening faceoff but also urges fans to not read much into it. Every team has clunkers throughout each season. To wrap up the show, Hunter previews the game against the Detroit Red Wings and looks at if you will see any lineup changes for it.

It looked like the Pittsburgh Penguins were going to get a massive win on Thursday night...until they didn't. That's right, Brian Dumoulin screwed up yet again for the Penguins as his struggles continued to get worse. Before Hunter gets to that play, he starts the episode by looking at whether the Penguins truly have a problem with the Hurricanes. He does a deep dive into all three matchups and looks at just how close they have been. He even argues that the Penguins could've won two if not all three of those games against them. After that, he does address the Brian Dumoulin issue and what the Penguins should do with him. Should he be traded? Should he be benched? Should Ty Smith come up? All of the above? Hunter breaks down what went wrong with the play on Jordan Staal and why Dumoulin shouldn't be getting those minutes anymore. He then gives some glaring stats at how rough Dumo has been all season before looking at another big problem: Jeff Carter & the third line. Hunter warns the listeners how bad that line will look once Brock McGinn comes off his shooting bender. Finally, Hunter ends the show with some more individual performance evaluations and gets to the listener's takeaways!

It's another Pittsburgh Penguins gameday as they have just one game left before the Holiday break. This contest will come against the first-place Carolina Hurricanes as the Penguins look to defeat them for the first time this season. Hunter is joined by Jared Ellis once again on the show to preview this matchup. They get into the game from Sunday and how both teams were able to follow that one up with a win prior to this game. Jared looks at what the Hurricanes have done better during this winning streak. They also look at how the Canes have had the Penguins' number this season and if that could be a cause for concern going forward. After that, they get into both goaltending situations and how both young goaltenders are really stepping it up for both teams as of late. Finally, they give some keys for each team to win, plus make predictions. All that, plus much more on this episode of the Locked On Penguins podcast.

How about that win? The Pittsburgh Penguins were able to take down the New York Rangers by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday night and yes, there's a lot to get into. Hunter stars the show with the defining moment in this game, which of course was Evgeni Malkin's power-play goal. He looks at how Rickard Rakell was able to draw that penalty and how Malkin had a perfect shot past Shesterkin, which is how you beat him. He also credits Bryan Rust for getting some redemption and showing another way to beat one of the best goaltenders in the league. He then analyzes Tristan Jarry's performance after he held the fort for the first half of the game and then continued to make timely saves when the Penguins got the lead. He then looks at how Guentzel and Crosby continued to crush the Rangers before having no sympathy about the no-call on Brian Dumoulin at the end of the game. All that, plus much more on this episode of Locked On Penguins.
