Well, Hunter didn't get a good birthday gift on Tuesday, that's for sure. That said, he's brushed off that loss and is ready to look forward as the Penguins start another massive three-game road trip. First up is a date with the Minnesota Wild and what better way to talk about that matchup than to bring Seth Toupal on, who's the host of Locked On Wild. They start going over the Penguins' issues and why they got worse on Tuesday against the Toronto Maple Leafs. What's the main culprit right now? Is Sidney Crosby going to get out of this rut? Is it past time to swap Rust and Rakell? Hunter also discusses the lack of scoring depth and how the team continues to get below-average goaltending in their games. After that, they flip to the Wild and touch on how they've struggled this season. What's wrong with their goal-scoring? Do they also have depth issues similar to the Penguins? How has MAF played this year (before he got hurt)? The two also look at if Dean Evason is on the hot seat and if Billy Guerin could make some changes soon before wrapping up with some keys to win for both teams and a prediction. All that, plus much more on this special crossover edition of Locked On Penguins and Locked On Wild.

Happy Monday! It's Hunter's last day as a 24-year-old, but that doesn't mean the podcast stops. He goes into a full recap of the game against the Canadiens and how the Penguins definitely could've won that game despite being outplayed. He touches on how fatigue and bad defensive play plagued the Penguins in the third period since they were playing their third game in four nights that week, all on the road. That said, the road trip was successful since they did get 5 out of a possible six points. He then gives his best and worst individual player performances from the game before finishing the episode with a full preview of Tuesday's game against the Maple Leafs.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are fully back...maybe? They got their second win in a row on Friday night and Hunter is here to recap it. He starts the show with how this was another complete team performance by the Penguins and how well they did to respond to adversity. He looks at how they were able to recover from a down second period to dominate the Leafs in the third fully and how that third period was the best he's seen them defend all year. He also praises Casey DeSmith for another strong performance as Mike Sullivan continues giving him more starts since he may not be happy with Jarry's play. He even eats more crow on Brock McGinn after he got his second goal in as many games and now has five points in his last five games. In the second segment, he praises the second line as they were hounding the puck all night. Was this Malkin's best game of the season? How is Jason Zucker's redemption going? After that, he goes into how Brian Dumoulin had a strong game as he continues to get fewer minutes than usual. Finally, he previews the game on Saturday in Montreal as the Penguins try to go for three in a row.

A win? In this economy? Yes, it actually happened as the Pittsburgh Penguins took down the Washington Capitals, 4-1 to snap their seven-game skid. Hunter starts off the show by touching on why this was a great team performance and how EVERYONE chipped in. He looks at how the team got goal-scoring from everywhere (not just the top six for a change) and how that really paved the way toward a win. He then dissects Casey DeSmith's game and looks at how he was able to keep them in the game, especially during those first 5-7 minutes of the first period. Hunter also shouts out the defensive core for really stepping up when Rutta and POJ went down with injuries since that forced other players to play more minutes. After that, Hunter gives his top player performances and starts with two bottom six players. After that, he looks at how Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin led by example, plus how Jeff Petry had his best game in quite a long time. Finally, Hunter gets to the listener takeaways and touches on how Ty Smith could make his Penguins debut if some of these injuries are serious.

Oh boy, there are A LOT of changes that were made at Penguins practice on Tuesday. Hunter starts the show with some new-look lines and pairings as Mike Sullivan has had enough of the same old stuff. What did he do to the forward lines? Is Rakell back up with Crosby? Is Hallander getting the nod over Kapanen? He then looks at the defense and why Marcus Pettersson deserves this shot with Kris Letang. He looks at the numbers from MP28 so far to show the listeners just how good he's been at providing offense and limiting chances against. He then discusses why POJ also rightfully got a promotion while then discussing the logic for why Brian Dumoulin got moved down to the third pairing. Will he easily crush those minutes? Could it be a similar situation to how good Mike Matheson was in the last two seasons? After that, Hunter previews the game against the Washington Capitals, a team that has also struggled a lot this season. He looks at how banged up they are, especially at forward, and how the Penguins can exploit that on Wednesday. Hunter also gives some keys to victory for the Penguins as this rivalry is always must-watch on television. All that, plus much more on this episode of Locked On Penguins.

I know, I know, it's another loss. Still, there are some positive things to take from it! That's precisely what Hunter starts with regarding Monday's show. He looks at the positives of the loss on Saturday and how the Penguins deserved a lot better. He looks at how they dominated territorially and how it just came down to Martin Jones playing his tail off against the Penguins yet again. He then discusses the core players and how they've been doing everything for the team lately. He points out that they can't be blamed for this losing streak because they're the ones who have shown up and are continuing to justify their cap hits. After that, he looks at the bottom six and why it's a unit that continues to fail. He touches on why nobody outside of Josh Archibald has been scoring down there as of late and how that needs to change in a big way if the Penguins want to turn this around. He then addresses the Jeff Petry struggles and why he thinks that eventually, it IS going to turn around. Still, he does have some blame for Ron Hextall because he hasn't done enough to fill out this team to the best of his abilities. Finally, Hunter examines the lineup and what changes Mike Sullivan could make for Wednesday's game against Washington. All that, plus much more on this episode of Locked On Penguins.

Happy Friday! Hunter starts off the episode by previewing Saturday's massive matchup against the Seattle Kraken as the Penguins look to get their first win in over a week. He looks at Seattle's lines and who to be on the lookout for before giving some keys for the Penguins to come away with the win. He then looks at some awesome stats heading into this game and how Sidney Crosby has the chance to make more NHL history with his 900th assist. After that, Hunter shifts his attention to the Penguins lineup and what some potential changes could be. Is Brian Dumoulin going to come off the top pairing? Is Teddy Blueger set to make his return? If so, could that one really help the PK as much as some think it could? Hunter also looks at why Bryan Rust and Rickard Rakell should be swapped again since Crosby has been better with Rakell this season, and ditto for Rust with Malkin. Finally, Hunter ends the show with an ode to Jaromir Jagr and his response to Jason Zucker's salute and then he gives his thoughts on the very troubling news surrounding the Boston Bruins on Friday with the signing of Mitchell Miller and why it's another bad look for hockey. All that, plus much more on this episode of Locked On Penguins.

It's an off day and one that was badly needed for the Pittsburgh Penguins. With that, Hunter is joined by Rob Rossi of The Athletic and they go all into the Penguins' struggles. They first touch on Brian Dumoulin and what the Penguins can do to help him out. Should he get bottom-pairing minutes? Is he going to be scratched by Mike Sullivan? If he comes off the top pairing, who should replace him? After that, the two look at Jeff Petry's season so far and why the Penguins need A LOT more out of him. Is he going to figure it out? What's missing from his game? The two then look at the struggles of the special team's units and what the Penguins need to do to correct them (especially the PK). Hunter wonders if the PK just figures it out, then that could get this machine rolling once again. Rob also makes a great suggestion about who the Penguins should run their power play through more often before they look at the goaltending struggles. What does Casey DeSmith struggle the most with? Is Tristan Jarry going to get back in form? Finally, the two end the show with a discussion on the supporting cast as a whole, plus a look at if the Fenway Sports Group could consider a management change if this continues.

Things just keep going from bad to worse for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Hunter recaps another loss for this team as it's now six in a row after ANOTHER multi-goal blown lead. He goes into what happened in that third period and how the Penguins just didn't get good enough goaltending again. He breaks down the two goals that the Sabres scored early in the period and how DeSmith was way out of position before looking at another elephant in the room: Brian Dumoulin. What does the team do with him? Should he be sheltered? Scratched? Traded? Hunter gives his answer on what he'd do before looking at what the team will most likely do since they value him a lot. He then looks at how a lot of the fringe roster players & some of the acquisitions during the offseason just aren't doing enough to help the core. After that, he has an honest discussion about Mike Sullivan and how he's likely not on the hot seat before looking at how Ron Hextall's heat should be getting warmer. All that, plus much more on this episode of the Locked On Penguins podcast.

Oh, things are bad, folks. Hunter is back to recap the full Penguins collapse against the Boston Bruins as they again couldn't hold a third-period lead. He starts with the goaltending as Tristan Jarry had perhaps the worst game of his season. He goes into how he needed to make a save for the team, especially during the overtime session after the Penguins failed to score on the power play. He also looks at how sluggish he's been the last few games and how he's not playing as aggressively as he should be. After that, he looks at some poor personnel decisions in the late stages of the third period, including putting Brian Dumoulin out there for a 6-on-5. What should the Penguins do about him? Will they do anything? Hunter tries his best to answer those questions before he rambles on about how there's too much "dead weight" in this lineup right now. After that, he takes some listener takeaways before doing a small preview for Wednesday night's game against the Buffalo Sabres. All that, plus much more on this episode of Locked On Penguins.
