Locked On Penguins - Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Penguins

Sidney Crosby is back skating but it's in an even better way now. He has 2 hands on his stick and he's shooting the puck soooooooo what gives? Hunter explains when he sees him start practicing with the team, plus when he'll likely make his regular-season debut. He also goes over what line combinations you'll see in the preseason game against Detroit and who will have to stand out to get a roster spot. Is this Brian Boyle's last chance? Hunter then goes over what Mike Sullivan said to the media on Thursday as the last preseason game will be a dress rehearsal. Is that the right move? Should the team instead be resting players? All that, plus some thoughts on Team USA and ESPN's new intermission show idea, on this episode of Locked On Penguins.

It's a late-night one but would hockey really be back without this? Hunter starts the show by recapping the Penguins preseason win over the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night and who stood out. Is Drew O'Connor on track to be an every-night player? What line would he likely start on if that was the case? Is Kasperi Kapanen bound to be an elite player this year? Hunter also assesses Casey DeSmith's play before then turning to Thursday evening's game against the Detroit Red Wings. He breaks down the lineup you should be expected to see and predicts who will have a strong showing. All that, plus much more on this episode of Locked On Penguins.

Happy Friday! Hunter previews the Penguins matchup against the Buffalo Sabres tonight as they'll play in their second preseason game. He goes over what line combinations you should be expected to see, plus how Mike Sullivan continues to be right with throwing Legare and Poulin to the wolves. He also goes over which player he's excited to see. Is Kasper Bjorkqvist ready to have a big night? Is it right for Kasperi Kapanen to keep playing in the preseason? How will Casey DeSmith be in his first game back? After that, Hunter goes into the practice groups and why it's disappointing for a select few players to be left off before clamoring for the listeners to subscribe to ESPN+ if you're out of the market.

Hunter welcomes a very special guest for Wednesday's episode as Josh Getzoff comes onto Locked On Penguins. Hunter and Josh first go over how Josh got into broadcasting and what made him want to be a broadcaster growing up. Was it always hockey for Josh? They then get into his opening game debut for both the preseason and regular season and trust me, you wouldn't believe what game he called for his regular-season debut. They also discuss: Is Tristan Jarry primed for a bounce-back? Who has he been impressed by in training camp? Where does he see the team at this year in terms of the Metro? All that, plus much more on this episode of Locked On Penguins.

The first preseason game is in the books, and yes, Hunter is overreacting. He starts the show by touching on the positives from the game. Does POJ deserve to be on the team? Should he be in the top 6 after last night's performance? He also touches on Poulin and Legare as they had great performances as well. What else do they need to do to make the team? Danton Heinen also had a good night, is that a sign of things to come. After that, he gets to the negative. Is Tristan Jarry's performance a cause for concern? What about Chad Ruhwedel with his quest to be the No. 6? All that, plus much more on this episode of Locked On Penguins.

It's the first game of the season! Well...kind of. Hunter shares his thoughts on the preseason lineup for the Penguins tonight and who he's most looking forward to seeing. Was it the right call for Mike Sullivan to put both Poulin and Legare in the Top 6? How much is Tristan Jarry going to play tonight? Is it a good idea to pair Joseph up with Marino? Those are just a few questions Hunter answers in this episode before pivoting towards some thoughts on camp scrimmages over the weekend. Is Brian Boyle even more of a lock to make the team? How has Poulin looked at camp? What is Jason Zucker promising to be better with? All that, plus a lot more on this episode of Locked On Penguins.

An old guest returns to the show as Doug Glattke from TheForechecking TV checks in and gives his players that he's looking to see impress in training camp. Does he think Radim Zohorna could steal a spot? Is Will Reilly on track for a good showing? What about Niclas Almari? Hunter also asks Doug what he expects from the team this season. Does Doug see them as a wild card team? Is the Metro going to be tougher than what Hunter thinks it will be? Where is his stance on Danton Heinen? Finally, the 2 then do a small Olympic Preview as all of the NHL players will be going back. Is Sweden underrated coming in? What does he expect Team USA to do? Is anyone beating Canada?

It feels like the first time, eh? Training camp is finally underway and Hunter has all your updates right here on this episode! He touches on Evgeni Malkin being out for 2 months and how the Penguins will have to overcome that. Who will step up? Does this make the Jared McCann trade look even worse? He also touches on how the team will be fully vaccinated by the start of the season and why that's the correct choice, plus goes into the training camp notes. Should Poulin be playing with the best players in camp? Is Heinen the correct choice to get the first crack with Guentzel and Carter? Who impressed during the scrimmages? Are the Penguins planning on having full attendance this season? All that, plus much more on this episode of Locked On Penguins.
