Locked On Rangers - Daily Podcast On The New York Rangers

With Patrik Nemeth coming off a very difficult season and still owed $2.5 million per year over the next two years, the Rangers have a dilemma on their hands. What should they do with the 30-year-old defenseman: hang on to him and hope for better play, trade him (along with another player such as Alex Georgiev, prospect or draft pick), or buy him out??? We debate the Ranger options and come to a conclusion! Plus, quickly addressing what are likely non-sensical rumors surrounding Artemi Panarin. Episode 625. Intro song is “Leave the Lights On” by Passafire.

It’s the start of Unrestricted Free Agent Spotlight, beginning with impending UFA Ryan Strome! Strome is coming off a two-year deal that paid him $4.5 million per season and should be in line for a pay raise, but how much of one? Would Strome be willing to take a hometown discount? For those who really want Strome to return, we’re tossing out some reasons why it’s at least still possible, if unlikely, including his outstanding chemistry with Artemi Panarin and his popularity in the locker room. Comparing and contrasting Strome with fellow impending Ranger UFA Andrew Copp!

Sammy Blais re-ups with the Rangers on a one-year, $1.525 million deal! Though Blais appeared in just 14 games for the Rangers last season and was acquired with second-round pick from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for Pavel Buchnevich, the former Stanley Cup Champion was beginning to become a popular player and make his mark. Will we see a French Connection reunion with Blais and Alexis Lafreniere, and might Blais be an option for the second powerplay unit? Recalling a big fight between Blais and Nick Paul, which seemingly sparked the Rangers to a 3-2 win over the Ottawa Senators. After signing Blais, Vitali Kravtsov and Gustav Rydahl for a combined total of just $3.145 million, General Manager Chris Drury appears to be “working backward”… we explain. Episode 621. Vitali Kravtsov signs a one-year, one-way, $875,000 contract with the New York Rangers! Can Kravtsov and Chris Drury repair their rocky relationship? Discussing the chances of Kravtsov dressing for the Rangers on Opening Night in 2022-23 versus the chances of him being traded. Recapping the MANY twists and turns since Kravtsov was drafted by the Rangers at No. 9 overall in 2018. Recalling the completely avoidable situation that saw Kravtsov get assigned to the Wolf Pack in the preseason and refusing to report. Given that the Rangers have three unrestricted free agents in their top six, could Kravtsov actually claim one of those spots heading into next season?! Assessing Kravtsov’s trade value. If someone offers a third-round pick, should the Rangers accept, count their losses and move on? Or could Kravtsov still work out with the Blueshirts.

The Rangers can’t keep up with Tampa, nearly pull a miracle after Frank Vatrano scores a late powerplay goal, and ultimately come up just short in a 2-1 loss in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Final. Why Gerard Gallant benching Kaapo Kakko was a bad decision in the short term as well as the long term. The Rangers AGAIN get caught flatfooted in the shift that follows a goal… at the worst possible time. Igor Shesterkin has proved that he’s as clutch as he is talented. Jon thanks everyone for being on this incredible ride through the regular season as well as an amazing postseason run! Episode 616. Intro song is “Leave the Lights On” by Passafire.
