Locked On Raptors - Daily Podcast On The Toronto Raptors

In Episode 820, Sean and Louis Zatzman (Raptors Republic) discuss the NBA's proposed plan to return on December 22nd which was approved by the players on Thursday, before diving into the latest on Fred VanVleet. They start out by processing their feelings about such a quick restart as the pandemic rages further out of control, and why the NBA seems set up to handle travel better than MLB or the NFL. Next they take a look at how the return might affect the Raptors, from the schedule to their prospective home to their ability to lure free agents amid so much uncertainty. Lastly, they discuss the latest on Fred VanVleet, and whether Zach Lowe's passed along info on the situation has changed their level of confidence about whether or not he'll be back with Toronto.

In Episode 819, Sean and Vivek Jacob dig into part two of Sean's updated Ranking Every Raptor column for Raptors HQ. Today it's all about the top-75, and more notable, the seven core players from this and last year's Raptors teams who are now all situated in the franchise's all-time top-25. They debate the merits of where OG Anunoby (19th) should sit compared to Marc Gasol (24th), who has far less time spent with the team but was essential to the title run that OG missed. Next they take a look at Serge Ibaka (10th) and Fred VanVleet (13th) and try to sort out whether one, both, or neither should be ahead of Antonio Davis (11th) and Amir Johnson (12th). Lastly, they discuss Pascal Siakam (6th), the degree to which his post-season struggles this year should have affected his standing, and the likelihood of him passing the guys in front of him in the 5th through 2nd range: Chris Bosh, DeMar DeRozan, Vince Carter and Kawhi Leonard. Of course, Kyle Lowry is the undisputed number one, but you knew that.

In Episode 818, Sean is joined by former Raptors ticketing director and game ops DJ Paul Beirne on the 25th anniversary of the Raptors' first ever game against the Nets on November 3rd, 1995. They kick things off by discussing the many different hats Paul was forced to wear in the early days of the franchise, as well as what it was like to manage game ops for a team that played in a cavernous baseball stadium. They also dive into how Herbie Kuhn got the PA job he still holds to this day, where they found The Raptor, the mascot hatching ceremony that went down just before tip-off of the first game, and what strange pieces of memorabilia Paul still has from his time with those early editions of the team. He also shares a wonderful story about how he pissed off Oliver Miller from hundreds of yards away in a critical moment of a game.

In Episode 815, Sean and Katie Heindl wrap up their two-day quest to move every NBA team to Canada for the sure-to-be COVID-riddled 2020-21 season. Today they dive into the Western Conference, which frankly has some far more interesting teams to place inside Canada's borders than the East does. Is there a tech bubble city that matches the Warriors' light years aesthetic? Which team will get to take advantage of Montreal's night life? Will Sean get a team placed around the corner from his house in Hamilton? And what about those LA teams? All that and much more!

In Episode 814, Sean and Katie Heindl set out to move the entire NBA to Canada for the 2020-21 season, beginning with the Eastern Conference. Where do the up-and-coming Atlanta Hawks fit? And are there any cities left in Alberta for any of the Texas teams to move to after Sean and Katie run through the East? Come back tomorrow as we relocate the entire Western Conference to Canada as well!

In Episode 813, Sean and Katie Heindl quickly react to the news that Terence Davis has been arrested in New York City on assault allegations. They first discuss their instant responses to the reports before taking a look at the Raptors history in dealing with instances of domestic violence. In Episode 812, Sean and Robel (@robeltussin, Sub me in Coach on YouTube) continue to dive deep into the options for the Raptors at 29. They kick things off by discussing each of their absolute favourite Raptors targets at 29 -- for Sean, it's Michigan State big man Xavier Tillman, while Robel is super high on Arkansas guard Isaiah Joe. Next, they take a look at a pair of point guards currently being mocked to the Raptors at 29 in Tillman's Spartans teammate Cassius Winston, and French guard Theo Maledon. Lastly, they take a look at who might be worth prioritizing with the 59th pick, and run through some names that could be around on the undrafted free agent market once the draft is complete.

In Episode 811, Sean chats with NBA Draft expert Robel (@robeltussin) about the NBA's reported plan to return by Christmas, Raps assistant GM Dan Tolzman's comments on the flat nature of this years' draft, and a pair of prospects worked out by the Raptors over the weekend: Malachi Flynn (San Diego State) and Devon Dotson (Kansas). They start out by taking a look at the NBA's target start date of December 22nd, and try to determine whether the expedited return may affect the Raptors negatively, positively or not at all. Then they dive into the comments of Tolzman, who on Friday said the team was looking at roughly 50 different prospects to potentially take with one of their two picks in the draft. Lastly, after the Raptors worked out Flynn and Dotson over the weekend, Robel discusses both prospects and why they do or don't fit with the Raptors. Check back for more draft talk with Robel tomorrow!
